Siren Song
The legends speak only of my sisters - Agalope, Molpe, Pelsinoe and Thelxiope - but no-one remembers me. And so I sit upon this rock, the last of the Seirēnes, forgotten and alone.
I was there when Demeter gave my sisters wings, so they could find Demeter. They flew off without me, intent upon their task. But when Helios told Demeter that her daughter was with Hades, my sisters were cursed by a mother's rage - and me as well!
In recompense, Hera invited my sisters to sing for her upon Mount Olympos. I was told that my man's voice would be deep and displeasing to her ear. But, when the muses became jealous and turned upon us, I bore my wounds stoically and followed my sisters into exile on the Leukai.
We remained there, shunned by mortals and gods alike. When ships passed by the shores of our prison, we would call out to them, begging their crews to rescue us. But, when they approached, the gods would throw their vessels against the rocks and smash them into flinders. A brave man once leapt from his ship, promising to aid us; but Aphrodite caught him and bore him away.
Our last hope left us when sailors stopped their ears so they could no longer hear our pleas. In despair, my sisters cast themselves into the waves: death was their escape. And, with Demeter's curse fulfilled, I was left alone, abandoned to my fate.
Father Achelous! Mother Melpomene! Hear my plea! Intercede on my behalf with the gods above! Remember your son!

Until the 5th century BCE, the sirens were depicted as both male and female. Then, for some reason, the male sirens vanished from the record leaving only the female sirens. Sometimes I wonder what happened to them, and whether there is still one, forgotten siren living on Souda or Leon.
