Chapter 4
As we got into the kitchen, I heard my stepdad yelling something about can't find the beer. My mom sighed, "How about you come to eat some birthday cake instead, honey?"
My stepdad walked into the kitchen grumbling, something about me, my mom, and no beer. "Get on with it, my show starts in ten minutes, and I'm not missing it just because it's this little piece of crap's birthday," he snarled. Oh how much I hated him.
I actually have had the thought of running away. The only reason I stay is for my mom.
My mom pulled out a box from the fridge, ice cream cake, my favorite. "It's (Your favorite flavor ice cream), your favorite," my mom said. She pulled out sixteen candles and a lighter. She arranged the candles to form "16" on the cake and lit them.
"Make a wish, and who knows. It might actually come true," my mom said. I doubt it, I thought, but I didn't say anything. I closed my eyes, and again, made the same wish. I wish I was a demigod and went to Camp Half-Blood. Then I blew out my candles, I opened my eyes, AND!!!!! Nothing happened. I felt depressed, I was just being silly. I'd have a better chance of wishing for a million dollars, and that happening than being a real-life demigod.
I sighed but smiled at my mom. "Well, are we going to eat the cake or just stare at it?" I asked. It was a beautiful cake, with 'Happy 16th Birthday (Y/N)' written in, you guessed it, blue icing. My mom knew about how much I loved Percy Jackson, and always got a cake with blue frosting.
"I suppose we should eat it," she said, with a hint of sarcasm.
*Time skip to after cake*
I was lying awake in my bed, staring out the window. I looked up when I heard my bedroom door open.
It was my mom, I sat up. "Hey," she said. "Hey, what's up?" I asked.
"I thought I should tell you that I'm going on a business trip," she said.
"For how long?" I asked, slightly worried. I could survive a few days, at the most a week, with my mom gone.
"A month at least," she said. Great. Just great.
"A month!?!?" I asked. No way I'm staying with that slime ball of a step parent for a month.
"We need the money, please try to understand," she pleaded. I understood that we were low on money.
"I understand that we need money, but maybe we wouldn't if you stopped him from spending every penny on beer," I said, my voice getting louder as I became angrier. I tried to calm myself, I didn't need my head exploding.
"When are you leaving?" I asked finally.
"Tomorrow morning, probably before you wake up," she said.
"Okay," was all I could say. I didn't see many options, I couldn't ask them to stay, but I don't think I could live that long.
My mom smiled and hugged me, "Thank you," she said. "I love you, mom," I whispered, "I love you too, sweetheart."
After we said our goodbyes, I was back lying on my bed, looking out my window. A shooting star flew through the night sky. I closed my eyes and wished again, hey I'm a dreamer, I wish for the impossible to be possible, it's what I do. Plus, isn't the saying, the third time's the charm? I think that's right. I wish I was a demigod and went to Camp Half-Blood. Then I fell asleep.
A/N
I promised another chapter tomorrow at the latest. But I recently found out about my mom's plans. So, late-night writing, yay. That was sarcasm if you couldn't tell. Well, I gave you what I promised. All I can say now is.
Goodnight, my lovelies.
