Chapter 15

Rey and Temiri were waiting in the sitting room along with Hux and Luke.

Rey gently combed through Temiri's hair with her fingers in a motherly way as he sat in her lap.

"Rey, where is your husband?" Luke asked her.

"There was something he had to do, he said that it was important," she answered.

"Well it better be for him to leave you and the boy on Christmas Day," Luke answered.

"I'm sure it is, he promised to return as quickly as he could," Rey answered.

Luke nodded.

Just then, Ben came in followed by Rey and Temiri's parents.

Temiri jumped up and ran to embrace them. "Mum! Dad!

Ben went over to Rey.

"How did you find them?" Rey asked him in a whisper.

He hung his head slightly. "They came to the castle a few days ago and demanded that I let them take you and Temiri to..." he stopped, he couldn't tell her the truth.

"To...?" she questioned.

"Jakku," he whispered.

"Jakku? But that's a slave trader's city," she whispered sounding hurt.

"I'm sorry I should have told you, but I didn't want to hurt you," he answered. He gently touched her cheek.

Rey looked at Temiri concerned. She placed her hand on Ben's shoulder. "You won't let them take us, will you?"

"Of course not, Rey I love you," he smiled at her.

She hugged him. "I love you too."

Ben looked down at her. "Please don't tell Temiri about this."

"I won't," she promised.

"Please tell me those aren't his real parents," Hux said, coming over to them.

Ben nodded, he looked at his uncle. "We have some explaining to do."

Luke nodded. "Who are those people?"

"They're Temiri's real parents," Ben explained.

"He's not our son, he's my brother," Rey added.

"Well there's nothing wrong with you taking care of your wife's brother Ben, I wouldn't be angry at you for that. I admire how you've taken him in and treated him as your own," Luke said.

Ben looked at Rey and grabbed her hand, deciding to tell the truth. He took a deep breath. "She's not really my wife, I just hired her to pretend to be so that I could go home. I'm sorry, uncle. I know that it was stupid to pretend to have a family."

Luke smiled. "Well you weren't pretending all of the time."

Ben smiled at Rey and kissed her hand.

"And I can see that you've changed. I'll tell your parents to lift your banishment. But I do hope that you'll ask this lovely young woman to marry you for real."

Ben smiled, and hugged Rey. He winked at his uncle over her shoulder.

"I'm sure Rey wants to speak with her parents, she hasn't seen them in three years."

Luke nodded. "Of course."

"Come with me, darling?" Rey whispered to Ben.

He nodded, he didn't want her to have to face this alone.

She took his hand and went over to her parents. "Hi mum, hi dad," she said softly trying not to show how hurt she was with them.

"Hey darling," her father said.

Rey hugged them both, trying not to let the hurt she felt control her.

"Mum, dad, I know you've already met Ben," she said.

They both nodded.

Rey took his hand. "He's my..." she trailed off. What was he to her? She'd gotten so used to calling him her husband, that she almost said it. But he wasn't, they weren't married yet. She knew that he wanted to marry her, but he hadn't officially proposed yet. She supposed that until he did he was her boyfriend. "He's my boyfriend."

Her parents nodded.

"He seems to care about you very much," said her father, glancing at her mother.

"Yes. I never thought that our daughter would marry a prince," her mother added.

"Well he hasn't proposed to me yet," she answered.

Ben smiled shyly at the way she had said yet as though she already knew that he was going to. He was trying to surprise her, but he realized that he had dropped too many obvious hints for her not to know what he was planning.

Her mother nodded.

"Please come inside," Ben said.

They followed them into the sitting room. Temiri and his parents sat on the couch, talking. Rey sat beside them in an awkward silence.

Ben regretted telling her the truth now. She couldn't really spend time with them as she would have if she hadn't known. But she did need to know in case they tried to talk her into leaving with them. He sat in the armchair and watched Temiri as he talked with his parents. He couldn't help but feel concerned that they would leave him again without saying goodbye.
