Chapter 24 - God of the Underworld
With each members' combined and sneak attacks, a silent tear was shed. By this point, some of the members were becoming fatigue. They were losing magic power. And Kaage was still standing strong as if he wasn't affected by the attacks.
"I applaud all of you for your determination," Kaage clapped his paws, standing before all the Fairy Tail Mages, "however, I'm afraid that your determination will get you nowhere. All of you must learn when you've been beaten. And now is that time!"
The atmosphere around the entire town of Magnolia turned dark and venomous. And it was suffocating. The area was coated with pitch black shadows that circled around the mages. Each shadow cackled like a witch, taunting the wizards. Though they tried to hide it, the wizards were scared. Terrified. Horrified. Wendy was visibly shaking with Carla by her side, gripping Wendy's skirt for comfort.
"Try not to struggle." Kaage spoke, his voice monotone. "It'll only make this even more painful."
My children, Makarov thought. Makarov had practically raised all of the guild members. They were his children. And he was the parent. There was no way that he was going to let all of his children die by the hands of evil. I've got to do something!
"Looks like you could use our help, Jellal."
Jellal, as if on cue, started to stir to life. He groaned and sat up, rubbing his throbbing head. Did I just have a bad dream? He was waiting for his eyes to adjust to the setting, but he soon realized that this was the setting. A dark and deadly setting.
"Dad." Riko mumbled. Jellal turned to look at his daughter, catching a glimpse of his wife which made vomit pile up in his throat but he swallowed it down. Riko pointed past her father and Jellal followed her finger, turning his head and body to be able to look properly. On top of a neighboring building was Rick . . . and Rachael.
"W-What are you two-"
"A certain spirit of mine told me that there was gonna be trouble and that I should 'follow the shadows'." Rick explained, interrupting Jellal. "And I brought her for backup just in case things got hectic." He added, pointing to Rachael who was staring at the ground, purposely avoiding looking at Jellal.
The blue haired man nodded and although he wasn't completely comfortable with having Rachael present, he needed her help. "I'll leave everything to you." Jellal mumbled, not wanting to fight but stay with his family instead. He crawled towards his traumatized family, in hopes of comforting them in some way.
"Ugh, I knew those voices sounded familiar." Cobra groaned.
"What is it, Cobra?" Midnight asked, eyeing the maroon haired man.
"It's those guys from before," The Dragon Slayer replied, "the ones that kidnapped us and killed Erza. Well . . . for the first time."
There was a moment of silence. Cobra had spoken loud enough for all the member to hear. And everyone remembered attending Erza's funeral. Not a single member trusted Rick and Rachael despite the fact that Rick was the one to bring Erza back to life.
"But they came to help." Cobra said, breaking the silence.
"Sure they did." Natsu grumbled.
Sensing the new presences of magic, Kaage looked over his shoulder. "Two more guests, I see?" He smirked at the twins, clearly amused. "Come join us." He motioned for the two to come closer.
"I'm glad you invited us," Rick forced a smile, "but unfortunately we don't like your hosting skills." Rick's smile disappeared and he glared down at the beast. "I'm afraid that we're gonna have to take over this party."
"Ha, that's rich!" Kaage laughed. However, his laugh was cut short by an explosion. A-An explosion? F-From where? Kaage looked around the area, seeing nothing, and then he looked down at himself. He saw that he was glowing green. What is this?
"It's my magic." Rachael answered the beast's unspoken question. Kaage looked up at the female who was still standing on that neighboring building.
"Wait, where is-" Kaage wondered, noticing that Rick was no longer there.
"I'm only here to keep you occupied for a while." Rachael interrupted Kaage, exploding the magic within him again.
And again.
And again.
And again.
"That's enough, Rach." Kaage growled at Rick's voice, feeling the mage's presence behind him. "Open! Gate of the God of the Underworld!" Kaage saw a glow of gold coming from behind him. What kind of magic is he using, Kaage thought, Wait . . . God of the Underworld? Th-That's . . "Hades!"
Seconds after the summon, the ground shook like an earthquake. Kaage's shadows stopped in midair and Kaage himself was frozen. It was as if time had stopped only for evil.
The Earth between Kardia Cathedral and the neighboring building that Rachael was on began to crack. The ground split open and lava was seen underneath, splashing around like water in the ocean. A silhouette appeared, walking out of the depths of the Earth as if it was a walk through the park. This silhouette was Hades. And he was not happy.
Hades emerged from the lava without a scratch or burn. With a flick of the wrist, the lava came from the Earth, forming a stairway for the Greek God. Hades calmly walked up the stairs to the top of the church. "Kaage, the Beast of Shadows and Darkness." Hades called, his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes closed.
"You somehow managed to get a human into the realm and then you escape, causing trouble and chaos down in the underworld." Hades finally opened his eyes, glaring at Kaage, veins were fixable on the God's forehead and neck.
"I would sentence you to death, but that would be too kind of me."
