Chapter 21 - Light in the War of Darkness

"Out of my way, Salamander!"

"You get out of my way!"

"Will you two just shut up!" Erza growled at Natsu and Gajeel, cutting down another skeleton. She noticed that she had gotten separated from her family sometime during all the chaos. I hope they're all ok. More skeletons appeared in front of the mages. Right now, I must focus on the task at hand! "Requip! Black Wing Armor!" After completing her requip, Erza flew towards a group of skeletons and proceeded to attack.

"Black Wing: Moon Flash!"

Jumping up from behind the scarlet haired female, the two slayers also took the opportunity to attack.

"Fire Dragon's Wing Attack!"

"Iron Dragon's Roar!"

The combination of attacks caused an explosion which destroyed nearby houses and shops. The trio indeed went overboard considering that they were only battling skeletons. Yes, the skeletons' bones were tougher than expected, but did the attacks have to that extreme? A comrade of Fairy Tail, a blond one, saw the explosion and instantly knew who caused it.

"Seriously? Are they trying to destroy the town!" Lucy groaned. A skeleton appeared behind her, going unnoticed by Lucy. "Look out!" Gray shouted, created an ice shield that protected Lucy from the surprise attack. "Don't let your guard down during a fight." He added. "I wasn't." Lucy grumbled.

"Can you two go flirt somewhere else?" Evergreen pushed her glasses up her nose, "In case you didn't notice, were in the middle of an all-out war."

"WE WEREN'T FLIRTING!" Lucy and Gray shouted in unison.

"Yeah!" Juvia agreed, "How dare you accuse Gray-sama of cheating on Juvia!"

"You say 'cheating', but you two aren't even dating." Evergreen commented.

"HEY!" Elfman roared, slamming two skeleton heads together succeeding in breaking them. "THIS IS NOT TIME FOR SMALL TALK! START FIGHTING LIKE REAL MEN!"

The boom of his voice made everyone jump slightly, but they nodded in agreement nonetheless. "Elfman's right." Mirajane smiled. "Mira!" Lucy jumped, "How long have you been here?"

"I've been here the whole time. I was just defeating those lovely skeletons." The S-Class Mage smiled and pointed to the large pile of bones behind her. "R-Right." Gray scratched the back of his head. "Wait, did she just say those skeletons were lovely?" Evergreen realized. "That's the she-devil." Elfman nodded, "What a man."

~Over Near Fairy Hills~

"Requip! Flora Bow!" A magic circle, the same color as Erza's, appeared and left in it's place was a green archery bow that was decorated with flowers. Riko glared at her several opponents, but she was not at all nervous. This particular bow that she requipped was a bow of life which is the exact opposite of death. As part of the set, Riko also gets matching archery gloves to go along with the bow. The Flora Bow, while it will help because it is the opposite of death, also restores portions of her magic power. This is my chance to shine! "Riko, do your best!" Yumi shouted only to be shushed by Jellal. Riko smiled at her little sister. "I will!" She shouted back.

"Take this!" Riko aimed and fired an arrow. The arrow was laced with a sparkling green magical essence. The arrow landed in the skeleton in the very front causing it to stumble back. The arrow then shook violently within the skeleton's bone as small green vines sprouting out from the arrow. "What the-" The skeleton spoke in a voice so deep and low that it was inhuman.

"The arrows I shoot from the Flora Bow contain essences of life or more specifically nature." Riko explained. She smirked and put a hand on her hip. "And life will crush death and send it back to hell." The vines started to sprout out faster, wrapping around the skeleton until it was engulfed completely. The vines squeezed the skeleton until it fell apart into pieces as if the vines had truly "sucked the life out of the skeleton."

Riko grinned at her victory. Alright, one down and five more to go. Not that it'll be a problem. She raised her bow and arrow and began to aim. "Flora Bow: Nature's Wrath!" This time when she shot the arrow, four more arrow appeared mid-flight. Each arrow landed in it's respective skeleton and the vines crushed each skeleton one by one.

"Amazing!" Simon gasped. "Right! Riko's the strongest!" Yumi agreed. "Maybe not the strongest," Riko laughed nervously, scratching the back of her neck, "but I'm strong enough to defend my family at least." She undid her requip and ran to her family's side. "We should find Mom." Riko suggested. "I agree." Jellal nodded.

~Over At Kardia Cathedral~

"You are quite stubborn which could be a good thing in some cases." Kaage said, walking towards Takeshi who was on all fours. "I know your stubbornness is a result of your will to fight. You wish to save Tarou," Kaage towered over the boy before him, "but the truth is there is no need to save him. He's not in any danger. I promise you that I will not harm him. He is my disciple after all. You have my word."

Takeshi breathed heavy breaths in and out of his mouth. He had stayed quiet and listened to Kaage run his mouth. Once his breathing calmed down, he could finally talk again. "I don't give a crap about your word." He said, standing to his feet. "I just want my best friend back." He stood with his hands on his knees, staring at his feet. "You took him from me. For years, you took him and you used him for your own stupid goal!" Takeshi finally held his head up, glaring at Kaage. "I swear I'll defeat you!"

"Hmm?" Kaage stared at Takeshi, "You know, something you said just now . . . it pissed me off!" Kaage held up a shadow-coverer fist and punched Takeshi in the jaw, sending the boy flying back into the cross of the church. Takeshi groaned in pain as he wiped his lip with the back of his hand, noticing blood drip out of his mouth. "My goal is stupid, you say?" Kaage sneered,"I'm going to make you regret the day you were born!"

"There's no need for that." A voice spoke from behind Takeshi. Kaage looked up and Takeshi turned his head to see who had interrupted their battle. Behind them was a short, old man. "W-Who is he?" Takeshi mumbled. "Who the hell are you?" Kaage growled.

"Who me?" The man pointed to himself and put on a fake smile, "My name's Makarov, but you, you lowly beast, can call me Mr. Dreyar. Hope you don't mind, but I'd prefer to keep things formal between Fairy Tail's enemies."
