Chapter 10 - The Voice In Our Heads

Jellal never left the house for the past three days. He stayed home, locked up in his room. He refused to bury the body of his six year old son who is now dead. Jellal tormented himself in his thoughts. What did he do to deserve this? Simon was just a little boy; he didn't deserve to die. Was it the name? Is the name 'Simon' cursed? Jellal thought back to the Tower of Heaven. Simon had died by his hands while trying to protect Erza. Now, his son Simon had died of malaria. The boy didn't even make it to double digits. I'm so sorry, Simon.

Will you try to seek me? Jellal jumped at the sudden voice. He scanned the room, but found nothing. "Who's there?" He slowly rose out of his bed. I'm not in your house. He stopped moving, his body tensing. "Who are you?" He asked. Don't you remember? Jellal sighed inwardly. I'm having a conversation with a voice that may or may not be real. He laid back on his bed and groaned in frustration. He rolled on his side and closed his eyes, attempting to take a nap. I know you'll come to me for help. Jellal ignored the voice and fell asleep.

"Mom?" Riko asked as she entered Erza's office. Erza and the children went to the guild while Jellal stayed home. Erza was having just a hard time with Simon's death as Jellal was. The only reason she went to the guild was because, being Master, she still had paperwork to do. "Yes, Riko." Erza spoke in a quiet voice which was unusual for her, "What is it?"

"Takeshi wants to go on a job." Riko explained.

"No." Erza instantly replied.

"But-"

"I said no." Erza said a little louder. "You and your brother need to watch Yumi."

Riko groaned and left the office. After Riko was gone, Erza groaned as well and ran her hands through her scarlet hair in frustration. See, what did I tell you? You need me. Erza was getting really annoyed with this mysterious voice that showed up when it wanted to. Am I going insane? Erza felt a headache beginning to form and looked at her desk for pain medicine. I know you miss Simon and I can help. Erza's attention was now brought to the voice.

"You can help?" She mumbled.

Yes.

"How?"

I simply have the power.

"The power to bring back the dead? That's forbidden."

To humans.

"You aren't human?"

I've said what I needed to say. If you want my help, seek me out through my master.

"Your master?" Erza questioned. "Who's your master?"

Silence.

Oh sure, now he's quiet! Erza growled a little as she crossed her arms over her chest. She considered the information that she was just told. The power to revive the dead? That has trouble written all over it. I probably shouldn't . . . besides I don't even know who this "master" is. Deep down, however, Erza wanted to have this mysterious person's help. She wanted her son back. She wanted him alive again. As much as it hurts, the dead cannot come back. That's where you're wrong.

The voice!

You of all people should know that!

"Excuse me?" Erza accidentally said aloud. What does that mean!?! Erza was both stunned and confused. "What do you mean?" Erza asked, hoping the voice would answer.

Silence.

"At least answer me." Erza groaned in frustration, her headache finally making an appearance. I should probably go home and take a nap. Having made her decision, Erza stood and left her office.

"C'mon, we're going home." Erza said to her three children. The teenagers were more than glad to finally leave. Yumi pouted, but knew better than to make a fuss. "Take care of things while I'm gone." Erza instructed to Laxus who was at a booth by himself. He grunted in response and turned his attention away from Erza.

Erza and her children left the guild and walked home in silence. "I'm going to take a nap so keep the noise down." Erza said in a stern voice once they had arrived home.

"Yeah." Riko mumbled.

"Ok." Takeshi mumbled at the same time Riko did.

"And watch Yumi." Erza added, making the teenagers groan slightly; Takeshi more than Riko.

Erza trudged down the hall to her bedroom. When she opened the door, she saw that Jellal was already fast asleep. He must have worn himself out. Erza followed her husband's lead, slipping into bed next to him and getting comfortable. As Erza's eyes got heavy and she drifted off to sleep, the voice spoke again. See you soon.
