Chapter 16

*Third Person POV*

(Past)

Marinette sat on her sofa beside Adrien, intently watching the screen.

"I wish I had been there when the memories returned. They were the truth. The Elders and their rules were the lie. So I do not apologize. I knew Fiona was safe. That I'd see her again, and that I held the future there in my arms.

[distant singing]

The Giver had led us here, to this house. It was real. From far behind me, from the place I had left, I thought I heard music, too. Perhaps it was only an echo. But it was enough. It would lead us all home."

"Best ending ever!" Marinette said gushing. "'The Giver' is an amazing movie!"

"So is the book," Adrien immediately replied. "But in the book, the ending is more mysterious. You have no idea whether they lived or died."

"Where's the fun in that?" Marinette said. "I'd rather have a confirmation that the characters are alive than a maybe."

"The books are always better than the movies," Adrien said.

"Not always," Marinette replied.

"Always," Adrien said.

Emma and Louis both heard the two playfully bicker and bicker. They both heard silence a few minutes later and the two stepped out of their room. (Emma and Louis used to share a room when they were younger)

Emma picked up a blanket and draped it over Adrien, with Louis doing the same to Marinette with another blanket.

The two kids walked back into their room with Five-year-old Louis asking a question. "Emma, why did we put blankets on Mommy and Daddy?"

Eight-year-old Emma smiled. "Because we love them Louis and love is the most powerful magic in the world."

A/N:

Hey! So I alternate between the past and present chapters if you guys didn't notice already. The past chapters are going to be quite short with the present ones being longer. The story is about to take a turn. So watch out!
