Superior Mechanisms

Izuku had already passed the UA written exam with perfect marks, to Nezu's amusement.

Now he was sitting in the auditorium clicking nervously. He wore a long sleeved tracksuit top and a glove on his right hand.

A series of clicks echoed from the stage below.

"What's up little listener! You've got like, an hour until the rest of them finish the written exam. You sure you want to sit there clicking 'help' over and over?"

Izuku exhaled in amusement, clicking out a quick 'haha' and 'sorry'.

"You all out of voice kid?" Aizawa called from the stage, having joined Present Mic.

Izuku shook his head, letting out a series of clicks.

"I'm saving my voice for the exam. You know how sadistic Nezu can get, I want to be able to call out to anyone about to be pounded by a robot."

Aizawa nodded in understanding, leaving the stage.

"We'll all be watching you kid, don't fail on us now."

Izuku clicked an affirmative, before leaning back in his chair.

It was another 45 minutes until the rest of the examinees began to trickle into the auditorium.

Izuku began clicking nervously as Present Mic walked onstage.

"Heyyyy everybody! Can I get a HEY!?" He asked.

  "H.. E.. Y!" Izuku 'shouted'.

Present Mic grinned at him, calling out a thanks that confused anyone who didn't know Morse code.

"Now, I know you're all here for the practical exam, so let's get right into it!"

Present Mic began explaining the exam, but was interrupted halfway through by a tall blue haired boy.

"You have told us about three of the robots we must face, however there are clearly four on the information packet provided! If this is an error made by UA then it should be rectified! Also, whoever is clicking, will you please stop? It's incredibly distracting to the rest of us!"

Izuku clicked out a quick sorry, but it seems the boy didn't understand.

"Thanks for the questions examinee 7771! The fourth robot is a little different, because it's worth zero points! You get NADA for beating it! So I recommend you guys just try and avoid it. As for the clicking, I know the listener who's doing it. He can't help it, so please don't get aggravated over it!"

Present Mic finished up the presentation, and everyone piled into busses and went to the exam sites.

Izuku was clicking up a storm when they arrived at the huge model city. He was clicking out 'help' 'SOS' and 'holy crap I'm actually doing this'.

A hand landed on his left shoulder, and Izuku faced the blue haired kid from earlier.

"I apologise for my outburst earlier. May I ask why you're wearing the mask?" He asked.

  "Do you know sign?"

  The boy nodded.

"I do. I learned it because my brother thought it would be useful. Seems he was right."

  Izuku smiled behind his mask.

"Well, I'm heavily scarred from an attack about a year ago, so I have it to cover up the scars on my face. What's your name?"

  The boy bowed politely.

"My name is Iida Tenya! What about you?"

"Just call me Mask. I don't have another name for people to use."

The buzzer sounded, and the doors opened. Izuku sprinted through the huge doorway, pulling his glove off and launching the grappling hook out of his palm, pulling himself into a group of robots.

Izuku touched them with his left hand, turning them into perfect metal cubes, then left, searching for more points.

All Might leaned forwards in his chair.

"The white haired boy, with the.. metal cube quirk. Who is he? What is his quirk exactly?"

Nezu begrudgingly responded to the question.

"The boy goes by Mask. He doesn't want people using his surname, and nobody is comfortable enough using his given name except his father, so we just call him Mask."

Aizawa had adjusted his scarf, hiding most of his face, but didn't look away from the screen displaying Izuku's efforts.

  All Might was confused.

"You know him? Does his father work at UA?" He asked.

  Nezu cackled within his mind.

"Aizawa here is his foster father. He's been staying on campus due to his previous living situation."

The hero nodded, relaxing back into his chair beside his wife.

"Don't just go throwing that around Nezu. If.. Mask doesn't want anyone knowing, then we don't tell them."

  Nezu nodded.

"Of course. Now, I believe it's time to release the zero pointer. I wonder if Mask will put it down?"

Izuku crushed a three pointer's head in his right hand.

"My mechanisms are superior.." he clicked.

A rumble shook the ground, and the shaking was quickly followed by the sound of crunching concrete and steel.

Izuku looked up, and saw the absolutely massive robot bearing down on them.

Izuku frowned, launching his grappling hook at the edge of a building, flying up to the roof. He Looked around, keeping an eye on the fleeing teenagers.

Izuku spotted a girl get her leg trapped under a chunk of concrete, and he ran.

The white haired boy launched his hook at the building across the street and swung down to road level.

Izuku sprinted to the brunette and swiped his left hand at the concrete, reforming it into an arch over the girl's obviously broken ankle.

"Are you okay? Don't worry, you're going to be fine." He said.

The girl looked up at the robot, then back at Izuku.

"You should run! That things going to kill both of us!"

  Izuku laughed quietly.

"What's your name?" He asked in a low voice.

  "U-Uraraka.." she said.

Izuku nodded, standing up and turning to the zero pointer.

"It's nice to meet you Uraraka. You can call me Mask."

The robot threw a punch at the masked boy, but Izuku reached out with his left hand.

The moment flesh met metal, the entire robot changed. The Zero Pointer became a multicoloured mountain of bouncy rubber balls.

Izuku turned back to the stunned brunette and shielded her broken ankle from the cascade of bouncy balls. He raised his left hand to his forehead wincing in pain.

"And with that awesome display, the exam is OVER!!!" Present Mic yelled.

Izuku waited with Uraraka until he saw Recovery Girl.

"Broken ankle, bruised legs and possible concussion. Not much blood loss, and her ankle is the most serious injury." He clicked.

Recovery girl nodded, approaching the brunette and examining her ankle.

"Thank you sonny. Now young lady. I'm going to heal you with my quirk, which will sap the rest of your energy. When you wake up, you'll be in the UA infirmary."

Recovery Girl kissed Uraraka's forehead, and a green glow enveloped her bruised and battered legs.

  "Your quirk is so cool."

  Recovery Girl laughed.

"Thank you Mask. Would you mind taking her to the infirmary for me? I've got to deal with the other children."

Izuku nodded, scooping the girl up into his arms and walking out of the model city.
