Prologue

A/N: Listen, I know that I have like a dozen other stories I'm supposed to be writing, but I needed to get this down. I have writer's block on all my other stories, so my fellow authors should understand... I have written several chapters in advance and will update if I can get five votes. Thank you for dealing with my unorganized and lazy self. Keep in mind I'm also in high school and can get very busy - not to mention that I keep getting sick and the doctors don't know what the fuck is wrong with me. I love you all so much, and comment or PM if you have any ideas or questions or you find any errors. Lizzy, out.

Once upon a time... That's how Fairy Tales are supposed to start, right? Well, I guess this particular story could be called a Fairy Tale. If it was written by the Brothers Grimm, that is.

So, once upon a time, there was a girl. I won't bother with telling you her name. It's irrelevant to the story and I've long since forgotten it. The girl was born - no, built - to be a weapon.

The "Perfect Weapon", They used to call her. I've forgotten what she looks like, it had faded along with the memories of her name, but she looked perfectly average. A forgotten face among the crowds. She acted normal too, so as to ward off any growing suspicion.

When she was twelve, she escaped Their clutches.

You see, she was taught to be an emotionless soldier, had it beaten into her until she could no longer move.

But what They didn't know was that she had emotions.

That she had made a friend.

I cannot remember what exactly they looked like, nor their name, but the girl cherished the person with all her heart.

And then They found out.

She was given orders to kill her first and only friend. When she refused, They violently murdered her friend and forced her to watch.

She snapped. She killed her guards and escaped.

For seven long, peaceful years, she was free. Albeit in hiding, but free nonetheless.

One day, however, on a forgotten date, she died.

An assassin, sent by Them, had finally found her.

There was a small scuffle in her trashed apartment before the assassin slit her throat.

She felt the warmth flee her lifeless corpse, her blood spill from her throat and stain her flawless skin.

As she watched the growing puddle of crimson, she knew that this was the end.

She was going to die, go to the afterlife, finally see that person again. The girl, now a young woman of 19 years, doubted she would go to Heaven - if there was one. Hell or Purgatory was far more likely.

Either way, this was the end. The last stop on the train ride of her short life.

The cool grasp of Deaths bony fingers calmed her failing heart.

Tha-thump...

Tha-thump...

... Tha-thump...

... Tha... Thump...

Everything faded to black, and she knew no more.

There once was a place called Earthland.

In Earthland, there was magic, there were mages, there were miracles.

10% of the population were mages - those that could harness the Ethernano in their bodies and the surrounding area to cast spells.

In a mansion on a large plot of land resided a family of three. The family consisted of a man, a woman, and a child.

The man, Jude Heartfilia, was married to the woman, Layla Heartfilia. The child, their daughter, was named Lucy.

You see, in another time and another place, "Lucky" Lucy Heartfilia grew up to be a beautiful, kind woman, who joined a mage guild called Fairy Tail.

But this isn't the same place.

Lucky little Lucy wasn't so "Lucky" here.

At the young age of three, Lucy Heartfilia fell ill with a violent, fatal disease. She struggled to live for several, agonizing days.

But, alas, life is a fickle thing, and quite unfair.

On June 12th, X770, 6:13 P.M., Lucy Heartfilia died at age three.

And yet, despite being a fickle thing, life is not always so cruel.

On June 12th, X770, 6:20, Lucy Heartfilia was resuscitated at age three.

But no one knew - save for the little girl herself - that despite being revived, Lucy Heartfilia really had died that day.

~

How is that possible? you may ask.

I, as the narrator, shall tell you.

Remember the nameless girl who only lived to be 19? You do? Good.

You see, Lucy wasn't supposed to die that day. She wasn't supposed to die for quite some time, really.

But there was, as those referred to as Reapers call it, a "Clerical Error".

That means that, somewhere out there, there was a poor newbie who didn't know how to do their job and sent out the order to reap the soul of Lucy Heartfilia.

So, you see, Lucy's soul no longer resides in her body, but her body is very much alive.

Can you guess what happened? No? *sigh* I suppose I should tell you.

The nameless woman just so happened to die around the same time Lucy did.

So, in an attempt to fix the massive issue, a Reaper was sent to take the nameless woman's soul and place it in the body of little Lucy.

Now Lucy, as her previous name was lost to her, wasn't sure what had happened.

In a different body, with a different name, and a man and woman calling themselves her parents - she had never had parents before - you could understand why she would be-

~

What the absolute fucking hell is this sorcery?! Lucy's mind screamed as her body trembled in shock and shed tears of confusion and fear. Didn't I die? Is this Hell?! Or perhaps They caught me and doped me up on hallucinogens or something! Yeah, that has to be it!

The man - her father, he called himself - was cradling the woman - her mother, apparently - and the child while they both shed tears of joy that their baby girl was no longer dead.

~

" -confused, right?" The narrator snarled angrily at being interrupted by the topic of her speech.

~

So, for the next few years, Lucy tried to be the little girl she believed she had involuntarily taken the life and body of.

But, seven years later, on July 7th, X777, Layla Heartfilia opened the Eclipse Gate and ended her life in the process.

On July 10th, X777, the Heartfilia Konzern held her funeral.

Jude Heartfilia became an apathetic and cruel man after that, burying himself in his work.

And little Lucy cried for days on end, believing herself to be the cause of Layla's passing.

For if she had stolen Lucy's life, who's to say she didn't steal Layla's, too?

Several days later, when she was given the Golden Zodiac keys Aquarius the Water Bearer and Cancer the Giant Crab by Grammi-san and Spetto-san, Lucy realized something that should have been obvious to her from the very beginning.

There were several clues, you see.

Her name; Lucy Heartfilia.

Her parents; Jude and Layla.

The fact that magic exists should've been a big clue to her as well.

She was "Lucky" Lucy Heartfilia, heiress to the Heartfilia Konzern, member of Mage Guild Fairy Tail.

She died in her past life and woke up in the body of an anime character.

Lucky Lucy didn't feel so lucky anymore.
