Prompt/Story #5

Crossover with GA and BM. It's sort of just DC in general, but I wrote GA from the prospect of Cw's Arrow so I guess it's sort of Arrowverse...

Oliver Queen really hated the banquets he was forced to go to as the Mayor of Star City. He always hated wearing suits. And acting fancy and professional. But that's exactly what he found himself doing on one random Tuesday night. The banquet was being hosted by Wayne Industries. So, naturally, he had to pack up and go all the way to Gotham City. The drive alone was several hours. It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t always have to go. Maybe he’d finally meet Bruce Wayne that night. He always seemed to be too busy for his own company banquets.

Honestly, who did that guy think he was? Hadn't he ever stopped to consider Oliver had better things to be doing too? The least he could do would be to show up and suffer as well!

Oliver sighed as he looked out the car window. He had finally made it. Wayne Industries. He took a deep breath before opening his car door and plastering on his winning smile as the paparazzi flanked him from all sides. He pushed through the crowd of reporters, making his way into the building. They kept trying to ask him questions about his being the Green Arrow, but he ignored them. He couldn’t wait for that whole vigilante drama to blow over.

He finally made it into the building and paused. It was the nicest banquet yet. A live string quartet was playing in the corner while ridiculously expensive champagne was being passed around by well-groomed staff. The great political figures from around the entire region were there and softly conversing with one another. Oliver walked around, preparing for the mental struggle known as socializing. It wasn’t long before he heard someone say his name.

“Oliver Queen? Hi, I’m Bruce Wayne.” Oliver turned to face the other billionaire. He quickly took in his appearance. The other man was a sophisticated looking person in an expensive suit. He had dark hair and a fake smile plastered on his face. It was similar to the one Oliver wore himself. Clearly, this guy wanted to be here as much as Oliver did. He caught sight of his hand, heavy calluses, similar to the ones he'd seen on Sara Lance’s hands…

“I was wondering if I was ever going to meet you at one of these things,” Oliver said.

Bruce chuckled. It was clearly just a forced as his smile. “Yeah, well, these things aren’t the most exciting.” He shrugged, tossing in the nonchalant billionaire act. “Going clubbing is much more fun.”

“Agreed,” Oliver nodded, remembering when he was just a spoiled brat who got drunk all the time.

“I just wanted to say, I completely agree with your new legislature you passed the other day.” His intellectual statement completely refuting the spoiled rich kid vibe he had earlier

“Good to hear,” Oliver said, pretending he even remotely cared. He should have been out with his team as the Green Arrow. This was a waste of time. But of course he had to keep up appearances…

Bruce’s phone suddenly chimed. He glanced at it. “Well, it was nice meeting you.” He gave Oliver another fake smile before disappearing in the crowd.

Oliver watched him go with a suspicious glare. After seeing the calluses on the other billionaire’s hands he was suspicious. He doubted it actually meant anything remotely interesting, but after over five years of hell he'd learned to keep his guard up. He needed an excuse to follow him...which came shortly, when his own phone began to ring. It was Felicity.

“Hey, Oliver!” she greeted.

“Please tell me something is happening,” Oliver said. “These things are boring.”

She laughed. “Something is happening! There’s an attack by a guy named…” she paused as if reading something “Scarecrow. He’s like three minutes away. You packed your Green Arrow suit, right?”

“Yup,” he nodded, even though she couldn't see him. “On it.” He ducked out of the room without being noticed by any of the other rich people. Then, he slipped inside a broom closet to change his attire. He easily changed in that seemingly simple fashion that superheroes have, and left to find this Scarecrow character.

It took awhile, since he didn't know this city as well as his home. But eventually, he spotted something suspicious in the streets below the rooftops he'd been patrolling on.

A full grown man was screaming in an alleyway, cowering in the corner. He was extremely afraid, but it seemed like he was afraid of...nothing. The coast was clear. The Green Arrow ziplined down to the alley. The man curled into a ball, whimpering uncontrollably.

Oliver bent down to examine him. He didn't have any wounds. There were no signs of any sort of attack. “Sir, you need to calm down,” he told the man. “You're safe, now. Tell me what happened?”

The man pointed at the Green Arrow in fear. Tears began to run down his face. “I’m afraid of you,” he whispered, his voice trembling.

“Why?” The Green Arrow demanded. Honestly, he knew he hadn't formed the nicest persona, but it wasn't like he went around killing people for fun.

Out of the darkness, a gas jettisoned straight into the Green Arrow’s face. The fumes instantly burned his nostrils and throat. He coughed loudly and leaned against the wall.

Visions began to fill his mind, illusions of the Queen’s Gambit, delusions of his friends and family dying. He thought he heard something behind him, and he sloppily aimed his bow in its direction. His breath left his lungs as he saw some sort of demonic creature before him. In reality, it was Batman.

The Green Arrow stumbled back, startled by the image he was seeing in his head. He fired an arrow, but his aim was off due to the gas that had been sprayed in his face. The arrow flew straight past Batman, not even coming close to its mark.

Batman easily reached the Green Arrow and disarmed the dazed vigilante and guided him towards the Batmobile. He shoved the Green Arrow in the passenger side and got in on the driver side.

The poor vigilante of Star City had no idea what was happening. He just kept seeing weird ass shit. He was quickly brought back to the Batcave, where Batman roughly grabbed him and brought him up the small flight of stairs that led to the main control area of the lair.

“Alfred!” Batman called. “Do you have the cure?”

The old butler came into the room a moment later, holding a vial in his hand. He had been expecting Bruce to be the injured one and was surprised to see the other masked hero.

“Who is that?” Alfred asked.

“We’re about to find out,” Bruce said as he pushed the Green Arrow onto the small medical table.

Alfred nodded and gave the man the cure. Then, he stepped back as Bruce removed his mask. Bruce paused in momentary surprise. He blinked it back and injected the cure into Oliver’s neck.

Instantly, Oliver seemed to calm down. The visions slowly faded from his mind, and everything became normal again.

“Should we be prepared for him to...attack us?” Alfred asked.

“Maybe,” Bruce admitted.

But it was too late to act. Oliver suddenly gasped and sat up. He immediately went into battle mode once he realized he didn’t know where he was. He jumped up, grabbing at Bruce’s arms and locking him in a choke hold. Bruce had extensive training too and easily got out of it and backed up.

“Oliver!” Bruce said. The mayor of Star City looked around slowly. After a moment, he realized who he was attacking and let go of the other billionaire. “Where am I? How did I get here?”

“I brought you here,” Bruce said calmly, but Oliver could tell he was still cautious. “You were infected with Scarecrow’s fear inducing gas.”

Oliver stayed quiet for a moment. Scarecrow. The name was even worse than the names Cisco gave Flash’s enemies. “Who exactly is this Scarecrow?”

“He’s a bloody lunatic like the rest of this bloody city,” Alfred said before Bruce could answer.

“That's...vague,” Oliver noted. He glanced at Bruce’s suit, realizing something. “You're Batman?”

“And you’re the Green Arrow,” he replied bluntly. “Now, stop trying to do your thing in my city. If I hadn’t been there, who knows what you could’ve done.”

“Well, maybe you should do a better job at keep your enemies in prison,” Oliver shot back.

“At least I don’t kill everyone like you.” Bruce glared menacingly.

Oliver rolled his eyes and glared back. “I might kill at times, but that keeps me and my team alive. And it keeps my city safe.”

“It might keep them safe from criminals, but it doesn’t keep them safe from you.” Bruce took a step closer. “Leave.”

“What are you going to do if I refuse?” Oliver challenged. He was never one to back down from a fight. He was stubborn. And he'd keep going until he won.

“Master Bruce…” Alfred began.

“No, Alfred. If he wants to fight, then we’ll fight.” Bruce looked at Oliver while he spoke. Oliver sent a cold glare his way, ready to fight, but before anything could happen alarms started going off.

Alfred breathed in relief. He’d never been grateful to hear those alarms up until now. “It’s Scarecrow again,” the butler announced. “He’s just outside the Narrows on the east side.”

Bruce nodded, glaring at Oliver once more. “We’ll finish this later.” He put his Batman mask on and got into the Batmobile.

“I’m coming!” Oliver called to Bruce.

“No you're not,” Bruce argued. “You have no idea what you're doing.”

“Then you can show me,” Oliver said stubbornly while opening the passenger door of the Batmobile. Bruce groaned. He didn't have time for this.

“Fine,” he grumbled. “But stay out of my way.”

Oliver nodded and got into the Batmobile. Bruce quickly drove them to Scarecrow’s location. He was in one of the most cliche places a villain could be - an abandoned warehouse. His goons were lined up, awaiting their orders. Batman used a grappling hook while the Green Arrow used a grappling arrow to watch them from above.

“Are you all clear on the plan?” Scarecrow asked his men, when he had finished explaining.

The all made some sort of acknowledgment.

“Good,” the villain said. “Now go.”

If you're going to stick with the AV version of Oliver Queen, this thing obviously has to be AU, as we now know that BM has been missing for three years in AV so...

This was written months before we knew that. I really wanted Oliver and Bruce to meet, because they were so similar and the CW writers kept teasing Batman. Name dropping, easter eggs...it just seemed like something that could actually happen.

I was thinking that the two could clash for a while. Both being extremely broody. Oliver not believing in the Batman. (as we now know) Bruce always wanting to work alone. They could constantly bicker and try to outshine each other as they work together trying to take down Scarecrow.

If you want this one, place in your app, thanks :)
