The Warning
Weird. Why do those teens look so familiar?
"Are you alright?" the boy named Zach asked.
The pain in my forehead started to die down a little. "Yep," I replied as fast as I could.
This was my first impression with Zach and Hannah, and I was already acting up. I guess you could say that I am somewhat clumsy.
Hold on for a second. Were they laughing at me?
No. My mistake.
"Are you our new neighbor?" Hannah asked, smiling up at me.
"Y-yes," I stammered.
Come on, Shelly! Get ahold of yourself!
"What is your name?" Zach asked, who was also smiling.
"My name?" I whispered to myself.
My name? What is my name? Do I even have a name? Gosh, Shelly, what is your darn name?!
Oh, yeah.
"M-my name is Shelly Madison," I managed to choke out. Hannah and Zach started chuckling to themselves.
What is so funny? Were they laughing because I was messing up? I suddenly felt rage building up inside of me.
"What are you guys laughing about?" I called down to them. They both stopped laughing and raised their heads so I could see their faces in the pale, evening light.
"Oh, we are not laughing at you or anything," Zach assured me. "We just think it is funny that a Madison, such as yourself, moved to Madison."
I hung my head. I did not understand what he just stated, but I just laughed anyway.
"Hey, Zach and I are going to the park to see some of our friends," Hannah said, pointing to her left. "Do you want to come with us and meet them? I mean, if your parents do not mind it."
Yes! Of course!
Wait.
No.
I sighed. "I am grateful for your invitation," I started. "However ---"
"Shelly! Get away from the window!"
No! Not now!
I sighed again. "I have to go," I said. "I hope to see you guys soon!" I gave a gentle wave to Zach and Hannah, and then walked back downstairs to the kitchen.
Leaning against the window frame now was one of my caretakers - Cassandra Blossom, who looked to be about sixteen years old. Her long, blonde hair was being blown around her face by the wind, but it did not bother her at all. She narrowed her eyebrows at the two teenagers who were still standing in front of the house.
Here we go.
"You see that road?" Cassandra asked, pointing at the road that was behind the two teens.
"Uh, yes," a confused Zach answered.
"Stay on your side of it!" the caretaker exclaimed. Then she shut my bedroom window tight and went downstairs.
Zach sighed. "Here we go again," he said.
