Coming Back
October 14, 2015 - 7:15 p.m.
That night, the high school hosted a special dance party in honor of Stine. The regular dance was scheduled for last night, but it was delayed due to the rampage. Of what, you ask? You know! Stine's monsters invading Madison and wrecking the school!
Thankfully, the monsters did less damage to the town, according to the principal of the school and mayor of the town. The police told Stine that they would not arrest him, even though that this was the second time that his creations escaped. They did, however, warn him that if it happened again, then he would go to jail for a long time, and the manuscripts would be confiscated for questioning. Stine just smiled and promised that it would never happen again.
"I know by heart that the incident will never occur even in my lifetime," the writer stated to an officer, smiling with glee. "In fact, I figured out a solution so it would never come to mind."
As for me, well...I was not feeling the best. I almost felt sick to my stomach, like I was going to puke.
For most of the day, I stayed at Stine's house. It was not because of Cassandra or any of my "Non-Fiends" like before.
It was because of Slappy.
My heart hurt so much. I could not even sleep. I imagined Slappy by me and wrapping his arms around me, pulling me close to him. I wish that we did cuddle, but we never had the chance.
I sat on the floor in the writer's studies and stared at the manuscript that was lying on the top shelf. I got on my tiptoes and tried reaching for the manuscript. My fingertips barely brushed against the manuscript, but I could not reach it. It was too high. Tears formed in my eyes as I realized this truth.
Never again would I see Slappy.
"Maybe...maybe it is for the best," I told myself. He was evil.
Was he not?
Soon, it was time to go to the dance. I really did not want to go, seeing that I was not feeling a hundred percent and the fact that I hate dances - call me crazy, but I do not care for them - but Hannah, Taylor, and the others forced me to go and even made me put on a dress that the girls picked out. Let me tell you, the dress was hideous! Imagine the ugliest dress. That is the dress that I was wearing.
Stine, Hannah, Zach, Champ, Taylor, Cassandra, the "Non-Fiends," and I arrived at the high school. When we entered the gymnasium, the lights suddenly came on, and everyone who was there appeared from their hiding places. They all clapped and had smiles on their faces.
"Congratulations, R.L. Stine!" the principal congratulated. "Thank you for getting rid of the monsters! Without you, Madison would have been destroyed."
Stine went over to me and put a hand on my shoulder. "I cannot take all the credit," he said. "This girl helped me. Her name is Shelly Madison. She is a very special girl and will be quite the author when she completes her first book." I sighed, and he took note and looked at me. "Shelly, could I speak to you out in the hall?"
I nodded slowly, a bit worried that I was in trouble, and we stepped into the hallway.
"Did...did I do something wrong?" I said.
He shook his head. "Of course not. It is just...you seem upset."
I sighed again. "I am sorry."
"You do not need to be sorry. I just want to know why you are feeling down." I did not answer him and tilted my head down, so he began guessing. "Hmm. Are you traumatized about what happened yesterday? Is it about the monsters? Or one in particular?" He raised an eyebrow. "You are sad that Slappy is gone, are you not?"
I could not hold in my tears. When I heard him say Slappy's name, tear after tear streamed down my cheeks.
The writer patted the top of my head. "I know that you miss him. But you need to remember that he will always be in here..." He pointed at my forehead. "...and here..." He pointed where my heart was. "...and over there." He pointed down the hall, and I turned and gasped.
There he was. Hurrying to me and waving.
Slappy.
At least, I thought that it was Slappy. This guy looked like him except he was...human.
"S-Slappy?" I managed to choke out.
"Shelly!" the guy said my name as he came up to me and hugged me. "Oh, Shelly. I am so happy to see you." He examined my dress. "And you look absolutely stunning in that outfit."
My cheeks got hot, and I turned back to Stine, trying to find a logical explanation from him.
Stine chuckled. "This is Slappy."
"What?" I turned back to the guy.
"Yep. I know how much you missed him, so I brought him back. He can now turn human whenever he wishes."
"But...but he is evil."
Slappy brushed my hair back. "I was evil, but not anymore," he confessed.
"You are a bit evil," the writer corrected his creation. "But you are not as evil as you were before."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever." He held my face in his soft and warm human hands. "The point is that Papa has made me a better person, and I have changed for the better. For you."
Just then, I heard Cassandra.
"Stine?" my caretaker spoke. "Can we talk?"
"Sure," Stine replied. "We can talk over here."
They walked away and disappeared behind a corner.
A grin spread across Slappy's face. "I love you, Shelly."
I smiled and sniffed. "I-I love you too."
We then did what the readers wanted us to do since the beginning of the book.
We kissed each other.
On the lips.
