Chapter 1

(A/N, Gracie will be played by Indiana Evans, a pic of her is above)

Gracelyn Diggory glided through the waters of the black lake, her honey blonde hair drifting behind her as she searched the depths for a new shell to add to her collection. Spotting a pale pink scallop shell in the distance, she flicked her light blue tail propelling herself forward. After a few powerful thrusts, she reached her goal, her treasure.

The shell was a slightly darker pink at the bottom but it gradually grew lighter aw the ridges lengthened.

Perfect

The blonde grasped the shell in her dainty hands and then swam upwards towards the surface of the lake. Upon surfacing, she spotted a very angry redhead pacing the shore and a brunette trying to calm her down.

Gracie started to descend back into the waters of the Black Lake before her very angry best friend could stop her, but she was seconds too late.

"GRACELYN DELTA DIGGORY!

Gracie winced at the angry tone of the girl's voice.

"YOU COME RIGHT HERE YOUNG LADY!"

"She does know I'm older than her, right?" Gracie muttered to herself as she obeyed her best friend's commands and swam over to the shore.

Upon approaching the shore the blonde plastered a smile on her face and looked at one of her best friends.

"Hey Mac," She said nervously.

"Don't 'Hey Mac' me, it's almost after curfew and you missed the welcoming feast! We spent hours looking for you! Do you know how worried we've been? Even your over brother didn't know where you were! You could have been ANYWHERE!" The redhead ranted.

"Mac, she is always in either two spots, the library or the lake," The calmer one of the two, a 5th year Ravenclaw named Chris said.

Mackenzie quieted, her face turning pink with embarrassment.

"Well, Good thing I thought to check the lake," She said.

"Mac, you were about to go to the kitchens, again," Chris deadpanned.

"Shut up Chris,"

"Look at the shell I found," Gracie cut in trying to diffuse the tension between the two.

The girl held out the shell she found while swimming in her cupped hands.

"Wow, very pretty," Chris said kindly.

Gracie pulled herself out of the water and sat on the shore of the lake. Chris pulled his wand out of his robe and cast a quick drying spell on the girl, resulting in her soft blue tail turning into her legs. Gracie stood up and straightened her robes, thanking her fellow Ravenclaw Prefect.

The trio started heading back into the school, the blonde in-between the redhead and the brunette.

"What you think oh so great and powerful Harry Potter is going to do this year," Mac asked the two.

Harry Potter was often a running  joke throughout the other houses because of the fact that he's rewarded for breaking rules. In the Gryffindor's point of view, he may be great and amazing because he plays a big factor in them winning the house cup, but in the other house's viewpoint, it's unfair. Dumbledore has granted Harry Potter and his friends points every year so far, even though the boy-who-lived has only been at Hogwarts for two years, entering his third, everyone knows that trouble is bound to follow the boy wherever he goes.

Gracie shrugged, her eyes trained on the ground. She felt bad for the boy, even if they never talked. The 3rd year never got to know his parents, and in his first year almost died, and then almost died again in his second year.

"Someone's not too talkative today," Mac said.

"Don't listen to Mac. She's just being a meanie," Chris said and I rolled my eyes as they began to argue.

"Well, Sirius Black is on the run this year," The blonde said interrupting the two's banter, "Probably going to make him pay for selling out his parents," She paused for a second, "And almost get killed, that seems to be his thing,"

Her other two companions hummed in agreement as they approached the entrance to the Ravenclaw Common Room.

Gracie answered the question without hesitation, and they soon was standing in the Ravenclaw Common room. In Gracie's opinion it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Ravenclaw common room is one of the airiest rooms at Hogwarts. It's a wide, circular room with arched windows hung with blue and bronze silks and a midnight blue carpet covered in stars, which is reflected onto the domed ceiling. During the day, the Ravenclaws have an excellent view of the school grounds. The room is furnished with tables, chairs, and of course BOOKCASES; and by the door leading up to the dormitories stands a tall statue of Rowena Ravenclaw made of white marble.

Gracie stared out the window to see the Black Lake.

"Remember in our first year when we found you in the lake?" Mac asked her voiced hushed, well as hushed as it could get, Mac tends to be pretty loud.

"You were not a very good hider," Chris teased the younger girl.

Flashback Gracie's PoV

We were hanging at the Black Lake in First Year. I was a good distance away from the water, but they decided to have a splashing fight.

"Come and join us Gracie!" Mac yelled as she doused Chris with more water.

I shook my head, eyeing the water nervously.

"Come ON Gracie, it's not cold!" Mac called, "Don't be scared!"

They both came over, intent on getting me into the water, or at least wet.

"You have SEASHELLS in your hair EVERYDAY, and you can't splash us with water?" Mac teased.

"It's FUN Gracie, and you can help me beat Mac" Chris reassured.

"Come ON Grace!" Mac said and lunged forward giving me a big wet hug.

I gasped and she let go instantly.

"Are you okay?" They both asked me.

I didn't have much time, so I ran to the closet place I could hide, the lake. I heard cries of protests from them, and I dove in, just in time. I turned into a mermaid the instant I was underwater. It was getting dark, because we decided to have a picnic out here to watch the sunset, and I was panicking. No one knew about my secret. Not even Dumbledore, and that man knows a LOT. What if someone told, and I was considered dangerous, and would have to go to prison. My stupid secret was going to make me lose my friends. I hid in a clump of reeds, watching them search for me, and start to panic as they waded in the water. They started to look for me. But I wasn't a very good hider back then, as the sun reflected of my scales, and they were over here in an instant.

"Gracie?" Chris said hesitantly and I shrunk back.

"Oh my Merlin, Gracie?" Mac asked.

"Gracie, come out. And then we can talk," Chris said.

"But you guys will be scared," I said tears running down my face, trying to see which one could be faster.

"No we won't. How can anyone be afraid of you Gracie?" Chris asked.

"Yeah, you're so sweet," Mac said.

They both waded in and tugged me out of the water.

"Jeez Gracie! How much does your tail weight! You're normally like 50 pounds, now you're like 70," Mac teased.

"She's just teasing Gracie," Chris told me gently, lifting my chin up with his index finger, "Don't worry Gracie, we won't judge you,"

"Yeah! I think being half fish is really cool!" Mac said enthusiastically and Chris nudged her, "Ow!"

Mac elbowed Chris and they glared at each other.

I dried my tail of with my powers, and soon my two legs were in front of me. I hugged them to my chest. Tears were trickling down my face, as they both stared at me. But I couldn't meet their gazes.

"That is super mega cool!" Mac cheered.

"Mac, she's scared," Chris said quietly.

"Of me?" She asked sounding offended.

"She's scared that we're scared of her," Chris said.

"Gracie, I don't think that ANYONE could be scared of you," Mac told me, "You wear seashells in your hair! And you fold your socks! No one could be scared of you. And you're so itty bitty! How could anyone be scared of you?"

Chris wiped away my tears and crouched down in front of me.

"Don't worry, we're not scared of you," He said.

"Yeah, we're always going to be best friends,"

"Always?" I asked them quietly.

"Always," They promised.
