Train For The Best
February 18th, 1987
Saturday morning
7:20 am
The morning sun rose behind the mountains of Mountain Avenue (yes this is a real location. Look it up.) as the sunlight shines in San Dimas, creating a beautiful and calm glow. It was the weekend and people were waking up, getting ready for plans and fun to do on a Saturday. Ted was still asleep in his room, shirtless with jeans he wore yesterday. His brown, fluffy hair was now scattered and covering his face. His father opened the door and starts pounding on the door. Ted jumped up and looks over his shoulder, speaking weakly, "I'm up. I'm up." Mr. Logan said, "Listen, I'm heading to work today so you have the house to yourself. Also, you have a visitor Ted." Ted rubs his eyes, trying to get a clear focus as he moves his hair from covering his face. He sits up to see a girl with long, brown wavy hair and a short blue dress with black heels. Her eyes were green as she smiled with a British accent, "good morning love." Ted blinks a couple times to see the girl and said, "oh. Hey Elizabeth." He realized Elizabeth was in his room as his eyes shot open and yells, "ELIZABETH!" He noticed he was shirtless as his body reveals his abs and a faint scar in his stomach. He blushed with embarrassment and covers his face, making Elizabeth laugh. "Oh Ted," she spoke as she walked towards him and sits next to him. Mr. Logan closed the door, leaving them some privacy as he sighs, "young love." Ted still covered his face as Elizabeth grabs his hands, slowly pulls them down and leans towards him, kissing him in his soft lips. She leans way closer to him, getting on top of him with kisses on his lips and chuckles around. Ted slowly pulls away the kiss and said, "Calm down Elizabeth. My dad is here." Elizabeth looks over her shoulder to see the door was closed and looks back at him with a smirk, "Not anymore. He's leaving to work isn't he?" "He did say that," said Ted. "Well, I'm not wearing my bra today," she spoke seductively and gave him a wink. Ted was definitely red as he shook his head, feeling something strange. He slowly sat up, making Elizabeth get off of Ted. He rubs both of his eyes and said, "sorry Elizabeth. I'm just really worn out from work yesterday." "Oh right," she said, completely forgot Ted works at a bar. She went up behind him and placed both of her hands behind his shoulder, giving him a relaxing massage. Ted took a deep breath in and slowly exhales, feeling relaxed and calm. "I should probably shower just to get myself awake," he said as he looks back at Elizabeth with a smile. She whispers in his ear, "don't take too long love." He scoffed and stood up, walking out of his room and head towards the restroom. Elizabeth sighs and heads out of the room, into the living room and looks around. She looks at the radio next to her and turns it on as classical music begins to play. Memories began to run back to the time Ted saved her from Medieval England before she married some royal ugly dude. She felt Ted was a true hero, even if no one can see it. Just then, there was a knock on the door. She walks up to it, opens the door and saw Marilyn standing in the doorway. Her mood change from happy to irritated. "Oh," Elizabeth spoke as she crossed her arms, "hell-o Marilyn." Marilyn smiled and said, "hey skank." She looks at her style and said, "I can tell you were busy with Ted right now. " Elizabeth sighs angrily and asked, "what do you want? Ted is busy in the showers." "You don't have to give me attitude but," Marilyn said, "can you give this to Ted once he's out?" "What about me?" asked Ted as he was drying his hair with a towel. His clothes were a red plain t-shirt with blue torn jeans and white Converse to top off the style. Elizabeth gave Ted an innocent smile and said, "oh nothing darling. We're just talking about our day." Marilyn rolled her eyes and shook her head as she muttered to herself, "thirsty bitch." Elizabeth didn't hear what Marilyn said as Ted looked at Marilyn and asked, "what's up Marilyn?" "Oh. Right," she reached into her back pocket and pulls out an envelope and hands it to Ted. "It's from Nancy. She was suppose to give it to you before you left but you were gone right away so she called me this morning to pick up my check and give you your check so there you go." Ted looks at the envelope and smiled, "excellent. Thanks Marilyn." Marilyn nods her head and said, "No problem. I'll see you at work dude." As Marilyn walked away, Ted closed the door and looks at the envelope. He tears the envelope open to see his check for $100.20 and smiled. He noticed something else was in the envelope. He saw $40 in cash and a small letter. He pulls out the letter as it said,
"Hey Ted.
I know you may be shocked about the 40 bucks in the envelope but I just wanted to say that is your tip for your most excellent job behind the bar. It was truly a most excellent time to talk to you and get to know you a bit. I mean, you have no idea how hard it must be for dudes and babes to get to know you because, well, YOU'RE HUGE DUDE! You're a huge celebrity bartender. No one can beat your fame dude. Anyways, I'm getting myself off topic but I hope you enjoy your tip dude. Make sure you use it wisely. Also, I hope you get a chance to give me a call so you can teach me some outstanding bar techniques and in return, I can give you some guitar lessons. I hope to talk to you soon dude.
Sincerely,
Bill S. Preston Esquire
Ted chuckled for a moment as Elizabeth asked, "what's funny Ted?" Ted looked at Elizabeth and answered, "it's just bar talk love. You'll understand later." Elizabeth raised an eyebrow and looks at the clock to see the hour hand at 8 and the minute hand at 02. "Oh dear," she said, "I have to go to meet my sister right now." She gives Ted a quick kiss on the lips and runs out. "So long love," she yells as she hops into her red Volkswagen, turns the car on and starts driving. Ted waved bye and closes the door. He looks at the letter and rushed back to his room, looking everywhere for a paper that had Bill's number in it. He checked his dirty jeans he wore yesterday and pulls out the paper. He smiled and grabs the phone from his side desk and dials the number. He placed the phone in his ear and lays on his bed, hearing the rings 4 times until he hears, "Preston speaking." "Bill!" Ted yells out with glee. "Ted!" Bill yells in respond, "you finally called. Are you doing anything right now?" "All by myself dude," said Ted with a smile. "Excellent," said Bill, "tell me your address so I can head over to your house." "Station," said Ted as he tells Bill his address. "Alright dude," said Bill, "I'll see you there." "Oh wait," said Ted but it was too late. Bill already hung up and is on his way to Ted's house. Ted placed the phone back on the receiver and cleans up his room before Bill arrives. He took the laundry to the basement and starts washing the clothes in the washer. He heads back up and heads to his room, grabbing trash and papers and throws them in a small trash can in the corner of his room. He starts organizing his bed until he hears a knock on the door. He walks out of his room, walks into the living towards the door, opens it and saw Bill standing in front of the doorway with his guitar. "Dude," Ted spoke, "come on in." Bill walks in as Ted closed the door behind. Bill looks around the house with a smile and asked, "you said you're by yourself?" Ted smiled and said, "yea. I am dude. My father won't be back until 3 hours for his lunch break and heads back to work for 7 hours." Bill and Ted looked at each other for a second and Bill noticed the envelope on the table. He blushed and looks at Ted, "you read the letter?" Ted went shock for a second and shrugs, "Yea. I did." Bill blushed like crazy, trying to cover his face from Ted. "I'm sorry dude," he said, "If I said it over the phone, Joanna would've killed me and quit the band." Ted's eyed turned widen, "wait a minute. Joanna? Is she your-" Bill nods his head and said, "my "girlfriend." But she is annoying dude." Ted scoffed and said, "so is Elizabeth. I can tell she wants to have sex with me but I'm definitely not ready for that dude." Bill nods in agreement, "Totally dude." There was a moment of silence as Ted asked, "you want me to show you how to bartend?" Bill felt his system spark with excitement, "lead the way dude." Ted grabbed Bill's hand and runs with him to the backyard where a mini bar stand was standing not too far from the pool. Ted stood behind the bar and Bill stood in front of the bar, watching Ted teaching him the ways to shake a drink, stir a drink, how many ounces of alcohol should be in each drink, and more. It's hard for Bill to remember all of it but luckily, Ted gave Bill a copy of rules and ingredients about bartending. Bill add in a couple of notes on the side just in case if there are any changes. 2 hours have passed by and Bill manage to make his first Margarita drink, both shaken and stirred. Both Bill and Ted were very proud of themselves as Ted said, "most excellent dude. Just practice it when you get back home. You'll get use to it and maybe you can be a bartender like me dude." Bill smiled and said, "thanks dude. Speaking of drinks, I could really go for one right now. Not alcohol since it is still kinda early." Ted nods in agreement and asked, "wanna head to the Circle K?" Bill shrugs and answered, "sure." Bill placed the guitar on the side of the bar stand as both dudes head out of the backyard and out of the house, heading towards Bill's car. Bill's car was a red 1962 Mustang, fully waxed as it shines from the sunlight and no roof was covering the car. Ted's eyes widen with awe, "woah." Bill smiled and jumps over the car door, landing in the driver's seat and said, "hop on dude!" Ted jogs and jumps over the car door and lands in the passenger's seat. Bill placed the keys in the ignition, turns it on and presses the gas pedal twice, making the car engine roar loudly. Ted loved the way the car sounds, knowing it is ready to hit the road. Bill began to drive the road as Ted turns on the radio. Dreams by Van Halen began to play as Bill blasted the radio and Bill and Ted sang out loud in the streets, "WE'LL GET HIGHER AND HIGHER STRAIGHT UP WE'LL CLIMB! WE'LL GET HIGHER AND HIGHER LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND! SO BABY DRY YOUR EYES! SAVE ALL THE TEARS YOU'VE CRIED! OHH THAT'S WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF!" Bill and Ted looked at each other for a second and laughed with joy until they reached to the Circle K. Bill turns off the ignition, shutting down the car as the two duos jumps out of the car and walks inside. Just as they were about to enter, both girls were heading out and Bill opens the door to let them out. They noticed Marilyn was walking out with her friend as her friend said, "dude! Are you two Bill and Ted?" Bill and Ted looked at each other and back at Marilyn's friend and nods with a smile. Marilyn chuckled and said, "dudes. This is Katie. Katie, you already know Bill and Ted." Katie had blonde hair with a tank top of a rock band, jean shorts and Converse but her smile was something that brought Bill and Ted a smile of a new friend. "Can I just say I am a huge fan of you two? Marilyn told me all about it." She sighs and said, "I wish I was there yesterday to experience it all. UGH! I HATE MY LIFE!" Marilyn looks at Katie and said, "look at the bright side, at least they're here in front of your eyes." Katie nods and said, "true." Bill said, "Hey, maybe if you're free tonight, I can take you out to the Roxbury to visit Ted." Ted looks at Bill and asked, "You're coming to the Roxbury?" Bill looks at Ted and shrugs, "why not? it doesn't hurt for you me, Marilyn and Katie to hang out." "Yea but Bill," said Marilyn, "me and Ted work." Bill looks at Marilyn and said, "when you two are on break, then we can hang out together for a bit." Katie looks at Marilyn and begs, "please Marilyn? They're really my heroes and you have no idea how badly I want to hang out with them. Please?" Marilyn looks at Bill and Ted, looks back at Katie and said, "eh. What the heck?" She looks at Bill and said, "I'll see you two at the club. "Katie immediately screams with excitement until they walked away, leaving Bill and Ted. Bill and Ted looked at each other and head inside the Circle K. Once they got out 2 minutes later, they were back on the road, heading back to Ted's place. They saw Ted's father leaving the house in the police car right away, not paying attention to Bill and Ted parking on the side of the curb. They jumped out and head inside, plopping their bodies on the couch with their hands in touch. They pulled their hand away quickly and chuckled softly. They looked away and close their eyes for a second, feeling extremely tired for some reason. "Hey Ted?" asked Bill. "What's up dude?" asked Ted. "What time do you enter work?" Ted opens his eyes and looks at his watch. It was 12:49 in the afternoon. "In 6 hours," answered Ted. He looks at Bill and asked, "why dude?" Bill opens his eyes and looks at Ted with a smile, "To teach you guitar." Ted smiled and said, "Oh yea. Let's head to my room. I have amps we can use." They both jumped up and head to Ted's room. They entered his room and Ted grabs his guitar while Bill quickly rushed out to the backyard, grabbed his guitar from the bar stand and comes back to Ted's room. Ted turns on both of the amps and connects the cable to both his and Bill's guitar. Bill gave a lecture to Ted on how to play guitar. He showed him the notes and an example of how each note sounds differently. Ted tried but fails to impress Bill with the beginning notes. Bill placed his guitar on the side and walks behind Ted, grabbing both of his arms and controls his fingers to hit the right note. Ted felt something strange in his stomach, noticing it was butterflies flying in his stomach. Ted let Bill control his arms and fingers until Ted manage to hit every note right. Bill smiled and said, "you got it dude." Ted looked over his shoulder and smiled at Bill. Bill let Ted try out the notes and joins in the fun. 4 hours had passed and Bill and Ted were in the living room, watching Friday The 13th. They didn't keep track of time as Ted looks at his watch. "I should probably get ready for work," said Ted. Bill looks at Ted and said, "you should so we can go meet up with your friend at her place." Ted nods his head and stands up and walks out of the living room and enters his room. As Bill continued to watch the movie, he heard a knock on the door. He stood up and walks towards the door. He opens it and saw Elizabeth. Elizabeth looks at Bill in shock. "Oh," Elizabeth spoke, " I didn't know Ted was going to bring a guest." She walks in with a smile on her face. "I'm Elizabeth, Ted's girlfriend." Bill closed the door after she walks in and introduced himself, "I'm Bill. Bill S. Preston Esquire. I'm in a band." "Oh yes. The Wyld Stallyns right?" Elizabeth spoke in a sarcastic tone as she started to take off her high heels. Bill smiled with a nod, "yea. Yesterday was the last day of the tour. We performed at the Roxbury and I must say, Ted is a most outstanding bartender. He was on fire yesterday. If you were there, you would've seen how fired up he is." "I'm actually going to the Roxbury today," said Elizabeth as she pulls out a short, red dress that is covered with sequins from a shopping bag. She looks at the dress and looks at Bill. "What do you think? Do you think Ted would find me attractive in this?" Bill looks at the dress and her and answers, "yea. It'll look good on you. Just add a bit of black eye shadow and red lipstick with black high heels." Elizabeth was impressed with Bill. His words and tone were very professional. "My my," said Elizabeth, "you should be a fashion designer." Bill chuckles and shook his head, "oh I wish I was gay but I'm straight, honey. Besides, music is my passion." Ted over heard the conversation between Elizabeth and Bill. He felt broken after hearing that Bill is not gay. He couldn't believe his heart is now crushed. He walks to the living room and Bill and Elizabeth looked at Ted. He looks at Bill with a fake smile. "Ready to go?" ask Bill. Ted nods his head and looks at Elizabeth, "We're gonna go meet up with Marilyn at her place and head to the Roxbury." "Ok," said Elizabeth and kisses him in the cheek. "See ya in a bit." Bill and Ted walks out of the house and heads outside. As they walked towards Bill's car, Ted looked down and enters the car. Bill enters the driver's side and looks at Ted, noticing something's wrong. "Are you ok?" asked Bill. Ted looks at Bill for a moment and answers, "I'm fine. Just memories." Bill became concerned but shrugs it off as he turns the ignition and starts driving all the way to Marilyn's home.
