XIII: Burning String of Death

"Hey, North are you- Ah, I can't even pretend that was hilarious. You were and then you- aw that was great."

"Gee, thanks, Miranda."

"Here."

"Thanks, Miranda."

"Earth to Connor!"

"If we... yeah, and then we that... yes, this could work!"

"CONNOR"

"Who, what, when, where, why?"

"Connor you were talking to yourself again. When you should be stabbing Ogres!"

"Come on, North you know I'm a battle strategist, not a fighter."

"Yeah, but one rule, and Connor I am deadly serious, no stink bombs."

"Fine."

"You know we're here and watching you plan, correct?" an Ogre said

"Um, yes."

"Good, good."

"Hey, look over there!" I pointed behind their heads. I actually felt kinda bad, because they fell for it.

"Connor."

"Hmm, yeah?"

"Bombs away!"

He smiled devilishly.

He opened up his purse and pulled out a bomb and threw it. We ducked behind I don't even know what it was, and I don't think I actually want to know. But when the bomb blew up, all that happened was silly string going everywhere

"Really that's it?"

"Wait a second honey"

"Connor I said that not Miranda"

Then the silly string was lit on fire. There was plenty of silly string on the Ogres, so they were lit on fire too. I'm not going to lie, I had to turn around because watching Ogres burn isn't my favorite hobby. It looked like there was still 1 left. With the light I could see them better, they had green skin like Shrek but they had this weird bright neon hair.

"Miranda, can you trip the ogre with some plants?"

"Sure."

"I have a plan. It will probably involve in some pain hopefully for it and not me, so Connor can I borrow some firecrackers."

"Sure," He passed me a handful of little balls and a match.

"Got it, it's all set up."

"Well, it's been nice knowing you."

I jumped out from we were hiding, and found the trip wire plant thing.

"Hey, big, green, and ugly!"

The ogre looked around in confusion.

"Yeah, I mean you. The Hulk beats you in looks any day."

He charged at me which, while it was part of the plan, did not mean it wasn't scary. Especially since they were so huge. Then, next thing I knew, I heard a loud bam. The ogre had fallen. I lit the firecrackers.

"Open up!" I shoved them down his throat. It was pretty ugly, he was jumping up and down howling in mad pain. Just watching it happen was excruciating.

When he finally turned to dust only one thing remained - his sword. I thought I should take it, since I was the one who slew him. I grabbed the sword, it had an interesting design. Its grip was made of black wood, and its blade, celestial bronze. I couldn't tell it's exact size, but it was more than an arm's length. I would put it at roughly 3 feet, or 100 centimeters for our friends using the metric system.

I could recognize the design, it was a longsword and its grip was a hand and a half, meaning I could hold it with one or both hands. The sword was beautiful, mesmerizing even. I swung it around. It felt great. I guess I'm a sword person and not a dagger person.

"I'm claiming the sword."

"Cool, what are you going to call it?"

"Its name shall be... um, pointy and sharp."

"How attached to that name are you?" Miranda said with a slight chuckle.

"Whatever, you got any better ideas?"

"I don't know, the black wood is pretty cool so you could make a point about that. You have dreams mostly at night. The sky is blackish at night, you could call it night something."

"Nightsbane?"

"Sure, why not?"

"Hey guys, glad to see your bonding, but let's get out of this place."

So through the door, we went. Connor had to pick the lock a bit but other than that we got through pretty easily. Out we walked the three "friends", and me with a new sword - Nightsbane.
