Chapter 8
Rehearsals continued to intensify. Kasey barely had any time to get back to the loft anymore. She came home to sleep, and then left at seven in the morning to make her eight o'clock rehearsal. They had thirty minutes off for lunch and dinner, and then they would rehearse until nine at night.
Everyone was tired. Some of the ensemblists were getting sick, and Reed Garrett, who played Olaf, had to miss a rehearsal.
Kristen and Robert Lopez had tried to get Gary to slow down the pace, but he didn't. They were doing full run-throughs of the show with three weeks left until they opened off-Broadway.
The five designers- Emalee, scenic design; Matt, sound; Stephen, lighting; Micheline, costumes; and Tristan, media- all would purposefully ask Gary questions about the show details so that the actors would have time to rest their voices.
Kasey, when she wasn't madly dashing around backstage, would play board games with Emma, Lily, Rebecca, and Maura, plus Jess and Sebastian. But that wasn't often. Usually, it was the four younger girls and Sebastian. He didn't have nearly as many stage appearances as Kasey and Jess did, so he had more time.
Kasey's favorite song was probably 'Do You Wanna Build a Snowman', because she got to sing it with the littler girls, or 'An Act of True Love', which was an amazing quartet. Ryan had done an unbelievable job with the orchestrations of the new songs, and 'An Act of True Love' had amazing harmonies.
"Act two, now!" Gary shouted, clapping his hands together. Kasey groaned and got up from the floor.
"See you, Kasey," Sebastian said, while intensely focusing on his next move in Disney Sorry.
"Have fun," Kasey called.
She didn't have to sing for a while in act two, thankfully. It was Jacob, Dylan, and Reed's turn. She did have to walk around onstage, but it wasn't stressful. Then she had the reprise of 'For the First Time in Forever' with Jess, and then she some time while Jess was running around onstage being chased by Hans and his minions.
Everyone was losing steam. Kasey loved the show, but she hated Gary's directing style. He was unsympathetic and unwilling to listen to anyone else. He was way more tyrannical than Tommy Kail had ever been in Hamilton.
She'd never really realized how the director could effect the mood of the cast.
There was a lot to get done, and the time they had left shrunk every day. In a week, they were moving to their off-Broadway theatre.
Gary had told them that it was the Astor Place Theatre.
Kasey was excited. The fact that they were going to begin performing the show seemed more real than ever, now that they knew that an actual theatre was theirs.

Rehearsal ended early for the leads- Kasey, Jess, Dylan, Sebastian, Reed, and Jacob, because they had to get their pictures taken for the promotional posters.
Micheline came with them to put them in their costumes.
Lights were set up, and they were in front of a green screen.
Kasey's first pictures were with Jess. They posed like Anna and Elsa had been on the original Frozen posters. And then they did some funny shots, with Jess shooting 'snow' at Kasey.
Then, Kasey had to take pictures with Jacob.
She wasn't sure how she felt about Jacob. She couldn't deny that he was a good singer, and he wasn't bad at dancing. But he was arrogant and cocky. Kasey knew actors that were ten times better than Jacob, but they didn't have the ego that Jacob had. Pippa had never been arrogant, and yet she could act circles around Jacob.
It was awkward having to stage kiss Jacob, too. She'd never had to in Hamilton. She never ended up going on as Eliza or Peggy/Maria, surprisingly, so she'd never really had to stage kiss. Unless you counted Julliard's production of Wicked, when she was Glinda, but the guys she'd acted opposite were nice guys.
She also got to pose with Dylan and Reed, who were in their Sven and Olaf outfits.
Olaf was a puppet, just like Disney had done in Disneyland, and so was Sven. Kasey couldn't imagine trying to walk around with a puppet attached to her shoes. But Dylan and Reed were both comically good at it.
Kasey also took pictures with Sebastian, which was fun, because Sebastian was an extremely sarcastic person. He had a great sense of humor and he wasn't egotistical at all. Even though Jacob played Kasey's love interest, Kasey liked Sebastian more than Jacob.
After taking solo pictures, then they got together for a group picture. They did a couple serious ones and then they did a funny one, even though they knew that it wouldn't go on the posters.
By the time they were finished, it was seven o'clock- the earliest that Kasey had finished rehearsal in a long time. She was relieved. She could go home and sleep more.
