Chapter 69

"We're going to answer some questions now, so, audience members, feel free submit any questions that you might have for these lovely ladies." Olivia said, scrolling through the iPad that was receiving the fan's questions. "They're really liking this group of people."

Christy peered over Olivia's shoulder to look at the comments. "Come on, guys, this is probably the only time all of us will be in the same room together! Any question. For real."

"Here's one, say the first impression you had of the person to your right," Olivia announced. "We'll start with  Denee and work our way down."

"Well, I thought that Kara Lindsay had a great voice and a lot of energy, and really great comic timing," Denee said. "I actually saw her as Glinda, and I loved it."

"Aww, thanks," Kara said. "You're so sweet. Um, well I thought that Jessie Mueller was so multi-talented and amazing, like a triple threat but even better... and I just loved her acting and her style of singing. So yeah."

"Everyone is so nice," Jessie commented. "Well, when I heard about Laura Dreyfuss, first of all, I thought she was gorgeous, and such a generous, sweet person. And when I saw DEH I was stunned by her voice and her acting, and I loved her so much."

"You flatter me," Laura laughed. "I'd heard about Kasey Winslow from Hamilton and her British-ness, and I assumed that she was super classy and put together. I was right, but she's also such a bright, pure soul. I love her to death."

"I love you, too, Laura," Kasey said, hugging Laura. "I was honestly terrified of Renee at first, because I was so intimidated and in awe, but she ended up being like a mom to me. She's so stunning and talented, and she's so caring and considerate."

"Thank you, Kase," Renee said. "Laura Osnes is like the goddess of Broadway, to be honest. She's gorgeous, and talented. She's just like a princess, with the personality to match. She's has such a generous heart."

"Wow, thank you," Laura Osnes said, blushing. "I thought that Christy was adorable, with an amazing voice. Her heart and empathy is beyond anything I've seen before. I was obsessed with her

"And Denee constantly stuns me with her beauty and grace. She's such a dynamic, interesting, engaging actress. I always thought she had so much talent, and I wasn't at all surprised with her amazing performances."

"You guys nailed that," Olivia said. "Alright, next question. Any onstage mishaps?"

They all exchanged glances and laughed. "There are so many," Christy laughed. "From the outside, it might look like we always do the show perfectly, but I think that I've never had a perfect show."

Everyone nodded. "There are always little things, but the major ones always stick with me," Kasey added. "Usually involving my accent."

"But your accent is amazing," Kara protested. "I love it so much."

"I know," Kasey laughed. "But a lot of the time, it slips out when I don't want it to, so then I usually get teased. It's not that bad, but I hate feeling like I've ruined a show by breaking the fourth wall, you know?"

"That's what you worry about? You're so sweet," Renee said, hugging Kasey. "I never knew you thought about it that much. I know that you had a lot of mic problems whenever you were Angelica."

"Yeah, that was weird. It felt like every time I was Angelica, my mic died, so that was fun."

"I've tripped onstage, in full-on Cinderella costume," Laura Osnes added. "It was not fun. It was my huge entrance in Ten Minutes Ago, and I could not function the rest of the show. Oh, and once, Santino put a jelly bean in my glass slipper. We couldn't keep it together."

"That's awful," Jessie said sympathetically. "But the jelly bean is actually hilarious."

"Here's another question, if you could swap roles with anyone in this room, who would you swap with?"

"I would want to play Zoe," Denee said. "I feel like Zoe would be just such an interesting person to play."

"I've always wanted to play Angelica," Kara admitted. "That would just be so cool. Even though I know I could never actually pull it off."

"I think you could do it," Renee protested. "I can see you as Angelica."

"This is really hard... but I'm actually going to have to say Anya," Kasey said, looking over at Christy. "I see a lot of myself in that role, and vocally, I feel like Christy and I are usually on the same page. Plus, the music is gorgeous."

After they answered a few more questions, ate dinner, and played more games, it was getting pretty late. Laura Dreyfuss had a late-night Dear Evan Hansen rehearsal, so she left early.

"Alright, we have time for one more question," Olivia announced hours later. "Here's a good one- Sydney J. wants to know about audition repertoire and tips."

"Oh my gosh," Renee said. "There are so many songs you could sing. I don't really have specific ones, it really depends on what show. You definitely want one that shows your range, technique and your style. Don't pick one that's too common."

Laura Osnes nodded. "Definitely. Pick one that's challenging for you, but one that you can sing well. You want to be able to show them what you can do. Showtunes are okay, but don't use the classics like 'My Favorite Things.' Pick one that shows your personality, too."

"And don't listen to the recordings if you're going to audition. Make the song your own. If you listen to a recording, you're not going to truly interpret the piece, which is what they want," Kasey added. "You'd just make the same mistakes as whoever's singing in the recording."

"I agree with everything that's been said, but make sure it's a song you like. Don't pick a song you hate just because you think it's the hardest to sing," Kara said.

Christy thought for a minute. "During auditions, be a little nervous, but use the nerves to perform better. People treat nerves as a bad thing, but they can actually help you. And smile."

"And when you're done, don't analyze everything you've done wrong. Your standards are higher for yourself," Denee said. "There's nothing you can do about your audition once you walk out the door. Just perform your best and everything will work itself out."

"Be okay with being told 'no'. We've all been told 'no'. If you wait long enough, if you work hard, there might be a 'yes', and that will mean all the more to you if you know you've put in the work and time," Jessie added.

"Alright, that's all the time we have. Thank you all for tuning in! Make sure to watch the Tony nomination announcements in a few weeks! Have a great and a safe night."
