Chapter 6
Kasey stepped inside the rehearsal hall to see racks upon racks of clothing. There was a lot of blue, and some pink. She could just spot Elsa's iconic 'Let it Go' dress hanging on one of the racks.
"Finally," Gary said sharply, the instant he saw her. "Now most of the principle actors are here. Today is your costume fitting day."
"Kasey, you're over here," Micheline, the costume director, called. Kasey walked over to the rack labeled 'KASEY WINSLOW, ANNA'.
Micheline first made Kasey try on her coronation gown. The dress had various shades of green, yellow, and black. The colors spun together when Kasey twirled. It was a beautifully designed dress. Micheline had to pin the bottom of the skirt up, because Kasey was apparently shorter than the measurements had said she was.
Then, Kasey changed into the dress with the blue skirt, black bodice, and light blue sleeves. It was the dress she'd spent most of the show in. The material was soft, and definitely more comfortable than the Hamilton corset that Kasey was used to.
Micheline had to pin that skirt up, too.
Then, she pinned the pink cape around Kasey's shoulders and stepped back.
"It's missing something," she declared. She spun Kasey around to face a mirror. "What do you think? It's plain, isn't it?"
Kasey considered the cape. "I think it needs some kind of design on it. It doesn't have to be super obvious, but if you do like a subtle snowflake design, maybe it would add some depth?"
Micheline nodded thoughtfully and went over to the table, where a bunch of sketches were laid out. She grabbed the pink cape sketch and quickly drew a design on it. She showed it to Kasey.
The snowflakes were geometric, similar to the designs on the rest of Kasey's dress. Kasey nodded approvingly.
"I think that's better."
"Me, too. And the color would just be a dark pink. Wonderful," Micheline decided. She took the cape off Kasey and handed her a pair of boots.
Kasey slipped them on, and stood up. "I think they're too big, honestly."
"What size shoe do you wear? I thought we got your measurements!" Micheline exclaimed.
"I wear size 6... in men's it's a four."
"They must have gotten a size six in men's!" Micheline exclaimed, throwing her hands into the air. "Those idiots. Now we have to redo all of the design on the boots. We cannot have you in boots that are too big."
Kasey handed Micheline the boots.
"I think that's all... we're still working on some of the details, but that's about all the costume changes you'll have to do," Micheline said. "We still need to get your finale dress, but now that I know your height, it will go much quicker."
"Is that a stab at how short I am?" Kasey teased.
Micheline smacked Kasey's arm. "No. I have seen shorter adults in my time. You are not the shortest."
After Kasey changed back into her normal clothes, she went to see Jess's fitting for Elsa. Micheline first put Jess in the coronation dress, a rather severe and uptight dress. The dress was beautiful even so. It looked different than the movie. It had extra layers of fabric, which somehow made the dress prettier, instead of detracting from it.
"I will add the geometric snowflakes to your cape as well, Jess," Micheline said. Jess nodded. "I think the length is right. The sleeves may need to be shortened a tiny bit. We don't want your hands to be swimming in fabric."
"I also want to explain something. You do have a transformation dress, which I'm going to put on you next. We are going to try and do the complete transformation onstage. I added fabric on the non-transformation coronation dress, so that it matches the actual transformation dress when you change into it," Micheline continued.
"I'm going to put you into the transformation dress and teach you how we hope it is going to work. We don't want to make you run offstage for a quick-change in the middle of 'Let it Go', so if this dress doesn't work, you'll just quick change before 'Let it Go.'"
Kasey watched Jess learn how to work the transformation dress. She couldn't quite figure out how it worked. Kasey never really was a fashion person. Her sense of style was basically just casual, with some dressier elements thrown in. Most of her clothes, she could dance in. Or rehearse in. Because that was what her life was now. Dancing, singing and acting.
Jess quickly caught on, and soon, she could perform the transformation perfectly. Seeing the transformation onstage would be cool to see.
Afterwards, Micheline fit Jess into the classically Elsa dress that she would change into after 'Let it Go'.
When Jess finished, they decided to do some random dance moves. Kasey discovered she still remembered all of her 'Yorktown' choreography, so she started teaching some of the ensemblists. Micheline was laughing on one side of the room, videotaping.
Once the ensemble finally learned all of 'Yorktown', they put on one final performance. Kasey couldn't help but be filled with nostalgia. She missed her cast members, and performing 'Yorktown' every night.

Everyone else in the cast got fitted for their costumes, and then the cast ran through the finale. Surprisingly, Gary let the go home after that.
The windows outside were dark, and clouds swirled in the gray sky. Kasey did not look forward to the long trek back to the loft. The wind, rain, and general weather would make the trip no fun at all.
Just like Kasey expected, when she stepped outside, rain and wind immediately blasted her in the face. She walked as quickly as possible.
None of the taxis were running- Kasey assumed that all the taxi drivers and their companies were sensible and weren't working.
But a Broadway show must start on time, Kasey thought ruefully. She stuck her earbuds in and opened her Spotify app to listen to the Off-Broadway cast recording of The Great Comet of 1812. She let Pippa's warm voice wash over her as she kept speed walking down the street.
At last she reached the loft. She opened the door and found that Carleigh was still burrowed in her blankets on the couch. Just her head peeked out of the nest that she'd made.
"Carleigh, how are you still not up yet?" Kasey asked.
"I'm way too lazy for this, plus, I'm binge-watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix," Carleigh explained.
Kasey checked her phone. She'd gotten a message from Micheline. She checked it and saw that Micheline had sent the videos of the impromptu 'Yorktown' rehearsal and the final product.
Kasey posted it on her Instagram.
