Chapter 26

There was a lot of press about Frozen now that it was running at the Astor Place. They were sold out almost every night, and the audiences loved it. Sometimes Kasey could hear the little kids in the audience singing along to the sounds they knew well, and gasping when unexpected things happened in the show.

Kasey had stopped going to the stage door. The insults and hate that was thrown at her when she went made it unbearable. Some of the ensemblists offered to walk with her, but she knew it wouldn't help at all.

She hated that some kids who wanted to see her now couldn't because of everything that was going on. The theatre management had tried to hire security guards, but they only guarded the theatre doors. They couldn't walk Kasey home.

It was unbelievably stressful, and Jace wasn't helping at all. He did nothing to address the controversy that had spread like wildfire throughout the Broadway community.

The fact that their relationship had become such a public issue was something Kasey never thought she would have to worry about.

She decided to take a break from Frozen for a couple nights to see if the fans died down, so Victoria was going on as Anna.

Kasey was looking forward to not having to deal with the stress of the stage door. It had all started to get extremely blown out of proportion.

Instead, Kasey was going out for dinner with Carleigh, Pippa, Renee, and Jazzy. It would be a nice change from the hectic schedule of the Frozen cast.

It felt strange not to be at the theatre for the call time, but Kasey texted the groupchat to wish them well. Victoria seemed to have a bit of an attitude about being Anna, but Kasey figured that everyone deserved to be excited to get to play their first understudied role.

After pulling on a pair of jeans, brown leather boots, a loose grey sweater, and a thick scarf, Kasey stepped out of the door to the apartment.

It was a bit lonely walking to the restaurant, since Carleigh was busy auditioning for Bandstand. She was praying that her friend did well- she'd listened to the music and it was a vastly underrated show.

As soon as Kasey stepped in the door, she was immediately hit by the warm air from the restaurant. Winter had started to find its stride, and the wind was constantly blowing through the streets, which had made the walk to the restaurant less pleasant than Kasey had hoped.

"Reservation?"

"It should be under Goldsberry," Kasey told the hostess.

"Right this way."

They headed into a more  cozy section of the restaurant, where the air smelled faintly of candles and wine. Kasey immediately spotted Renee sitting at a corner booth.

"And here you are," the hostess announced.

"Thanks," Kasey told the girl.

"It's nice to see you, Kasey," Renee said, standing up to give her a hug. "I've missed you so much."

"I've missed you, too. Frozen isn't quite the same," Kasey confessed.

"Once Pippa, Jazzy, and Carleigh get here, we can talk all about it," Renee said instantly. "I ordered some bread, since I wasn't sure how long everyone would be."

"Carleigh's audition should be wrapping up soon," Kasey informed Renee, checking the time on her phone. "It's only a block away, so she should be here quickly."

After fifteen more minutes, Pippa and Carleigh both arrived.

"How was your audition?" Kasey asked Carleigh.

"It went really well, they seemed to like how I did everything," Carleigh said. "I really hope I get it, because working with that show would be amazing."

"I hope you get it, too," Pippa chimed in.

Jazzy hurried in. "Hey, guys, sorry I was late, Nala ripped up one of my socks and I had to clean it up."

"That's okay," Renee laughed.

They put in their orders after everyone had settled in.

"How's life going for all of you?" Jazzy asked.

"It's pretty good, I'm enjoying Amelie right now," Pippa said. "It's such a great show, and I'm honestly so excited to open on Broadway."

"That's so exciting, Pip. I'm glad that it's going well," Renee chimed in.

"What about you, Jazzy?" Pippa asked.

"It's good, I'm liking the freedom that I have right now. Anthony and I have been kind of just visiting different places and singing. It's fun, and it's really nice to just be able to do what we want," Jazzy told them.

"Carleigh?"

"Well, I just auditioned for Bandstand, so I'm hoping that works out, but if I don't get in, I'll just keep auditioning," Carleigh said. "But I think that the audition went well, so we'll see."

"And Kasey, how's life in Disney?"

"Honestly?" Kasey said. "It's a lot of work and a lot more stress than I thought. People don't seem to be very supportive right now, so I haven't been able to stage door at all."

"What do you mean?" Renee asked confusedly.

"Ever since I announced that I broke up with Jace, fans have started giving threats and shouting things at me whenever I'm outside the theatre. They're angry about Tangled and they think I'm to blame for it, I think. I'm just hoping it dies down."

"That's awful, Kasey," Pippa said, wide-eyed. "I've never heard of fans getting that violent before. It seems kind of ridiculous to me."

"I know, I feel like they're all overreacting and blowing it out of proportion," Kasey agreed. "But I can't really address anything to them, because whatever I say just seems to fuel the fire."
