Chapter 2

A few weeks later, Kasey stepped into a large rehearsal space. She wore her British Toms, leggings, and Carleigh's grey jacket. It was just beginning to get to winter temperatures outside, and Kasey had mysteriously misplaced the jacket she had brought from England. Carleigh was lending hers until Kasey could get the chance to get a new one.

There were chairs set up facing a large black piano. Each chair had a music stand set up in front of it. Placed on each stand was a script, labeled in swooping handwriting.

Kasey was surprised to see Andy Blankenbuehler's name on one of the scripts.

Then she saw her name, in the front row. Right below her name was 'Anna'.

Kasey sat down and got out her water bottle and her phone. Rehearsal wasn't supposed to start for another fifteen minutes, and most of the people hadn't arrived yet.

She looked around at the other names that she could see. 'Elsa' was someone named Jessica Clarke, and 'Kristoff' was Jacob Hayes.

She waved at Andy when he walked in.

The pianist started to pick through some of the songs, many of which Kasey recognized. Some she didn't, which made her think that they were newly created songs just for the show.

She'd never really obsessed over Disney as much as Americans seemed to do. Maybe her childhood was filled with too much grieving and not enough fun. She wasn't sure. It could have been a cultural thing. But since she was dating Jace, he'd made her watch a great majority of the Disney films. She'd seen Frozen, and she was admittedly drawn into the music. And she was well aware of all of the characters that were in the Disney movies. They were iconic.

She flipped through the script. There was a lot- mostly for Anna and Elsa. There were songs that were extremely iconic- 'Let it Go', 'For the First Time in Forever', 'Do You Wanna Build a Snowman', and 'Love is an Open Door'. And then there were unfamiliar ones- 'Coronation Day', 'Let it Go Reprise', 'The Great Thaw'...

But all the music looked fantastic.

People began to fill in the room. A blonde-haired girl sat next to Kasey.

"Hi," she said brightly. "Jess Clarke."

"Kasey Winslow," Kasey replied.

"I've wanted to meet you for a really long time," Jess said. "I was in Tangled with Jace and he talked about you constantly."

"I saw Tangled about a year ago! Why didn't I see you?" Kasey exclaimed.

"I think I had a week off because my little sister was graduating college," Jess told Kasey. "I was disappointed that I missed meeting you. Everyone was talking about how someone from Hamilton was coming to see the show."

"Attention, cast members!" an older man shouted, clapping his hands together. "My name is Gary Somers, and I'm your director for Frozen on Broadway."

"Some of you I discovered through audition. Some I personally requested to join this cast. I want you all to think about joining Frozen for its Broadway run. Disney has already confirmed us for our opening night in September of 2017."

"This workshop cast are the cast members that I would like to take to Broadway," Gary continued. "We'll meet about every day to learn and tweak music, start choreography and staging, and come up with set and props."

Kasey nodded. This was like the process they'd done at the Hamilton workshop. They had refined the show until it was at its best. She'd quickly learned in those years not to grow too attached to lyrics or movements. With Frozen, she was at least guaranteed the original songs would remain the same.

"I want you guys to just mill together for a few minutes, talk to each other, and get to know each other. I hope to be able to say this is the Original Broadway Cast of Frozen," Kristen Anderson-Lopez said stepping forward.

Chatter filled the room after Gary sat down. Kasey went over to talk to some of the ensemblists.

It was a little weird to not be a part of the ensemble family. It was strange being on the other side of the cast, where Pippa had been in Hamilton. There was more pressure, Kasey felt, but there was a different kind of camaraderie. She didn't mind it.

She met the four girls who were playing young Elsa and Anna, and she and Jess got pictures with their younger counterparts. Jess, who was blonde, looked extremely similar to the young Elsas. The young Annas were ginger, and Kasey was brunette.

Kasey could already tell that they would have a good sisterly bond with the young actresses. And she already liked Jess.

They got a 'first day of workshop' picture and then they sat back down in their seats.

"Disney is trying something new, and they're allowing photographs and conversations about some aspects of the show onto social media. The cast is not secret, but it may change. Feel free to post pictures from rehearsal. We just ask you don't share any videos," the media director, Ryan Polito, instructed.

"Now, everyone, turn to your first page of your script for the opening number."
