Chapter 10
Carleigh finally stepped through the door an hour later. Kasey was sitting on the couch, mindlessly scrolling through her Instagram. She wasn't registering anything that she saw. Carleigh set her bag down on the floor.
"What happened?" she asked, sitting next to Kasey.
"Jace and I fought," Kasey said, her voice strangely level and calm. "I'm pretty sure it's over, Carleigh."
Carleigh was silent for a brief second, and then looked back at Kasey. "Why did you fight?"
"He's angry that Frozen is replacing Tangled," Kasey told her. "And he's blaming Frozen for what happened."
"He shouldn't be taking it out on you. He's supposed to support you," Carleigh said. "It's not your fault, Kasey."
"He said things... I never thought that Jace would ever say something like that." Kasey ran a hand through her ponytail.
"You don't have to let this argument tear your relationship apart. What you and Jace have, Kasey- it's one of the sweetest relationships that I've ever seen. Don't let this get in the way," Carleigh told her gently.
"Carleigh, it's not like that. He's not being understanding. He's a Broadway actor. He should understand that all shows can end. It's not the cast of the new musical's fault! He was acting like he planned to be with Tangled for forever. It's not right, he shouldn't be acting so angry about it," Kasey protested.
They both fell silent.
"I don't know, Kasey. Give him some space, I guess. I mean, how would you feel if Hamilton closed while you were still in it?" Carleigh said finally.
"I would be disappointed, but I wouldn't blame it on the cast of the new show!"
"Just give him time. Don't let him ruin this amazing time for you."
Kasey sighed. "It just hurts, you know?"
Carleigh smiled a little. "Not really, because I'm not in a relationship."
After a bit of silence-
"Do you want pizza?"

A few days later, Kasey stepped back onto the stage in the Richard Rodgers. It was exactly as she remembered it. It was like she had never left- she half-expected to be able to walk down to the quick-change room and find her cubby exactly how it had been.
"It's strange, isn't it? Being back here," Carleigh commented.
"Yeah, it is," Kasey admitted. "I feel like I should be getting ready for a show or something."
"KASEY AND CARLEIGH!" someone exclaimed, smushing both of them into a hug. Kasey could tell it was Oak, just judging by the size of the arms. She was so short that his arms were basically wrapped around her neck.
"OAK!" Kasey laughed. Oak pulled away.
"I haven't seen you two in forever! Still joined at the hip, I see," Oak said. "How's the unemployed life going?"
Kasey and Carleigh exchanged glances.
"Carleigh's unemployed, but I actually got a show," Kasey said. Oak clapped his hands together like a small child.
"What show?"
Kasey leaned in conspiratorially. "Frozen," she told him.
"That's so exciting!" Oak whisper-yelled.
They were interrupted by yet another squeal. This time, it was Renee who bundled Kasey and Carleigh into a giant hug, quickly followed by Pippa and Jazzy.
"MY FAVORITE ENSEMBLISTS!" Renee gushed. "I missed you two. You need to stop by and visit my place sometime. I cannot believe how grown-up you are."
Kasey snorted. "Renee, I literally have not grown an inch. I haven't even grown half an inch."
"No, but you've grown up. You're not the pet ensemblist anymore," Renee laughed. "You're a leading actress!"
"Oh my god, Kasey's a leading actress," Jazzy squealed, hugging Kasey yet again. "I've been waiting for literally my whole life to see a Kasey Winslow Tony acceptance speech."
"Shut up," Kasey said, smacking Jazzy in the arm. "That's not what this is about."
"CARLEIGH! AND SMALL KASEY!" Ariana shouted, waving. She bounded over. "This is by far the best reunion party I have ever been to. I've missed you all so, so much."
Kasey threw her arms around Ariana. "I miss you, too. The show was weird without you."
"It was weird without everyone who left," Jazzy admitted. "It was hardest the first time, when Pippa, Lin, Leslie, and you, Ariana, left, because it was so many at once. And then Kasey, Renee, Chris... it was easier when you guys left two or one at a time, honestly."
"It was really, really hard to leave alone," Kasey said. "Not having someone take that final bow with you- it's gratifying, but it's so, so sad."
"We all cried when everyone left," Renee agreed. "I cried when I left."
"Let's not talk about when we left the show, guys," Ariana said, clapping her hands together. "There's Hamilton cake and ice cream and everything. It's a happy time. We get to hang out for hours and sing and dance and do whatever we want!"
The reunion was a blast. It took Kasey's mind off of her problems with Jace, and even though she was exhausted from Frozen rehearsal, she never wanted to leave.
Everyone even got together for another 'Ten Duel Commandments', which turned out to actually be a fairly decent 'Ten Duel Commandments'. It was surprising how much of the choreography remained in Kasey's muscle memory.
No one wanted to leave- they just kept moving from story to story. There was a lot of singing, a lot of dancing, and lots and lots of Instagram and Snapchat. Carleigh, of course, filmed a lot of the antics.
Kasey had no idea how long they'd been at the theatre. When she and Carleigh finally left, it was dark outside, and even New York City had gone to sleep for the most part. They'd arrived in full daylight.
Time passed so quickly and yet so slowly in a theatre, Kasey thought to herself. Theatres had a way of drawing people in and never letting them go.
