Chapter 12

"A visitor came not too soon after the death of the king and queen, saying he wanted to congratulate his new queen. You two invited him in, and you had dinner, despite your feelings of mistrust towards the man. Yuu invited him for dinner, since it was late, and he seemed as if he had been on a long travel. You tried to tell her about your misgivings about him, but she just brushed them aside."

"It is an honor being able to eat in the presence of the queens." The man said.

"If you don't mind, what is you name, traveler?" Rin asked.

"Oh, how rude of me, my name is Johan."

Rin nodded. "Pleasure." She said, her voice holding not much emotion.

"Rin, come on, loosen up!" Yuu said, looking over at Rin, smiling.

Rin looked over at Yuu, "I'm just being cautious, majesty." She muttered. "We have no idea what intentions this man has in mind."

"I understand your concern, and I can assure you, I mean no harm." He said.

Rin looked at him, "I'm sorry for my mistrust, but do you have some proof of your claim." She said. "Something tells me that you didn't just come here to congratulate your majesty."

"Of course." Johan said, "And I see the former King and Queen choose well when they made you the current queen's counterpart.  You are right, Light Queen, I have come with a suggestion." She said.

"Which is what exactly?" Rin asked.

"I have found a spell, that will make all citizens, magic users and non-magic users to become equal."

Rin glanced at Yuu, seeing her lean forwards in interest. She had always been trying to get everyone in the kingdom to become equal, and this spell might be the answer to that goal. "What is this spell?"

Johan took a book out of his small bag he was carrying, opening it up and showing the two a page.

"You two looked at the page, unknown to you then was that the spell would cause great disaster." The older Rin said, "You both called non-magic users to the castle, and soon, almost the whole kingdoms used magic. It was peaceful, or it was peaceful for a couple of years."

The screen flickered, and now it was showing the kingdom a couple years in the future, and all around it, demons were roaming, terrorizing people.

"You both tried to look for a counter spell, and soon, Yuu found one that she through would work, you two went to the highest point of the castle and cast the spell together, causing the demons to become even stronger."

"Yuu, we have to do something!" Rin exclaimed.

"There's nothing we can do." Yuu said, her eyes gazing sadly out onto the kingdom. "My parents were right, I did throw the kingdom into shadows." Tears started to fall down her cheeks.

Rin looked at Yuu and placed her hands on her shoulders, looking her dear friend in the eyes, "No. You didn't." She said sternly, her eyes hardening, "This was caused by a spell, and we can undo it. There has to be a way." She said.

"But, the last time we tried, we just made everything worse." She sobbed.

"Who says we can't try again?" Rin said. "We just need to look harder, and I'm positive we'll find the spell." She pulled Yuu into a hug, "We'll find a way, we always do." She whispered to her friend, a small smile on her face.

"You're right." Yuu said, "We just need to try to harder." She said. "Let's go look for the cure."

"After months of searching, you found a counter spell, and you were heading up to the highest point when you encounter him again, Johan."

"Johan, leave, you are not wanted here." Rin said, light surrounding her hand.

"You don't understand, my majesty, I had no idea the spell would do something like this!" He said, obviously acting.

"You fooled me one, you won't fool me again." Yuu said, shadow engulfing her hand.

Johan looked at the two, his eyes narrowed and his mouth twisted into a frown. "Fine, if I can't have any power in this world, then neither can you! Ancient arts; Crystal inprisonment!" He said, he shot the spell right towards Yuu.

"Majesty!" Rin shouted out. "Royal Arts! Lights of Judgement!" A strong light emitted from her hand, making his spell eavaporate into thin air. The Royal Arts were a group of spells that only people of Royal origins could learn, Rin was an exception, at first, she couldn't cast them at all, but now, after years of practice, she's gained the ability to use four different Royal Arts spells, Lights of Judgement, Prism Bolt, Strike of the Sun God, and Soul strike, but whenever she uses on, she's drained of magic energy for a small while.

"Oh, I see you've mastered the Royal Art's spell to cancel out any Forbidden or dark magic, how interesting." Johan said. "But I also see that it drained your magic, while I'm still left with a whole bunch of it!" He smiled widely, raising his hand. "Forbidden Arts; Sacred Binding." He said, shadows leaked out of his hand and towards Rin, who felt them start to tie her together with invisible strings, leaving her immobilized.

"Yuu! Run!" She exclaimed, looking over at the queen, "Better I die then you die!"

"No! I'm not leaving you! You're a Queen too!" Yuu exclaimed.

"Aww, how touching." Johan said, "But I'm afraid emotions won't save you." He raised his arm one final time, "Forbidden Arts; Crystal inprisionment!" Again, a beam of light headed towards the Queen, and it hit her right in the chest.

Rin watched with wide eyes as a large crystal formed around Yuu, trapping her in the middle of it.

He smiled and swiftly cast a spell, "Ancient arts; Shadow spear." He said. A spear of shadows formed and shot right towards Rin at the speed of light.

Before Rin could even say a counter spell, his spell went right through her, blood splattering on the floor and rushing out of her mouth.

"Goodbye, Rin." He said, his smiled being the last thing she saw.

Rin was suddenly thrown back into the real world, her memories returned of her past life. She looked down and saw that she was wearing an elegant dress, black in color with some white frills, putting the wardrobe change to the back of her mind, she looked at the ladder and climbed it, heading towards the stare case and back up, I'm coming for you, Yuu!
