Chapter 11

YAY! BACKSTORY TIME
-------------

Rin was floating in a black abyss, staring at a white screen, flickering and showing images, soon, it started, and soon it was showing the life of someone, or more specifically, Rin. Well, she assumed it was herself.

"You were born in a small village, the village closest to the castle. The newest princess had just been born also, and she was named Yuu Nightshade, she had inherited the powers her father had, Shadow magic, you on the other hand had been born with light magic, though your parents had no magic of any sorts, and as a small child, you were always pure and innocent, the princess was the same, but her parents feared that, without a light magic user to balance their daughter's powers out, she would become corrupt as she grew older, and the kingdom will be thrown into a dark era."

The screen showed Rin, and another baby, who Rin assumed was Yuu. The child looked almost exactly like her, it was almost like they were twins.

"The King and Queen ordered the guards to go out and search for a child who could be a counterpart to the new baby princess. They ordered them to look for a male child with the ability to control light, a child who would be the prefect opposite for their daughter. So, then next couple of years, the guards looked for a male child that held the ability to control light, and after six years, they decided to expand their search to females, getting despite for a balanced counterpart."

Rin watched as the screen flickered, to Yuu, she looked to be around six, having long blond hair what was almost white that reached to just below her shoulders, along with black eyes, resembling Erza's a bit. Then the screen flickered to the house that she saw before, the one that she lived in. She watched with wide eyes as the guards knocked on the door.

"The royal guards headed to your house, you weren't the first, but you sure we're the last."

"Open up!" One of them said.

The door opened and who she assumed was her mother opened the door, she had light brown hair and pale sandy eyes, much like Rin's. "How may I help you today?" She asked.

"We're looking for a counter balance for the princess, and we wanted to evaluate your child, hoping that they may be able to help us." He said.

"Oh, I assure you, our child has no magical abilities. We're all non-magic users, I'm sorry to waste your time." Her mother said, smiling innocently.

"I'm sorry, but the royal family is desperate, we need to evaluate your child." The guard said.

Her mother sighed, "Fine, you can come in." She opened the door, allowing the guards to enter the house. When they saw little Rin, the froze in their spots.

"She's almost an exact copy of the princess." One of them said.

"Mommy, who are these men?" Rin asked. She was six years old, her black hair just above her shoulder and her pale eyes wide with curiosity.

"These are guards from the castle." Her mother said, placing her hand on Rin's shoulder.

"Why are they here?"

"They're looking for someone, but I doubt that someone is you." She whispered, something glimmered in her eyes, a knowing gaze, but she kept her smile, as not to scare her child.

"You're sure that your daughter doesn't have any magical abilities?" One of the guards said, looking at her mother.

"I'm afraid she doesn't." Her mother said.

"What are you talking about?" Little Rin asked, looking at her mother, "Why are you telling them a lie? mommy, lies are bad."

Her mother looked at her with wide eyes, "Come on Rin, this isn't a time to play pretend." Her mother said, she looked at the guards, "Children." She said with a smile.

The guard walked past her mother and kneeled in front of Rin, "What are you talking about?" He asked.

Rin smiled, "I can do this!" She exclaimed. She bent the light around herself and turned herself invisible. Then she released it and turned visible again, "I can also do this!" She closed her eyes and concentrated, and the lights I the house started to flicker. She stopped and opened her eyes, smiling widely.

Her mother looked at her with her hand over her mouth, "Oh Rin." She said.

"We've found her." The guard said. "Would you come with us please-"

"Rin! My name is Rin!" She said, smiling.

"Rin, come with us."

She looked at her mom, "Can mommy come too?" She asked.

The guard glanced at her mother, "I'm sorry, but you have to arrive alone." He said.

"If I can't go with mommy, then I'm not going at all!" She said, crossing her arms.

The guard picked her up, "I'm sorry." He muttered, and he turned around, holding the kicking and screaming Rin.

"Mommy!" Rin screamed, her eyes watering. They left the house and went up to the castle, where Rin was placed as a magical apprentice.

Rin watched as the screen flickered, then a new scene arrived on the screen, the two were older, probably around 12, and they were standing in the front of two coffins.

"When you two turned twelve, the king and queen died of a serious illness, and Yuu was crowned as the new Queen, of course, since you were her counterpart, you were still with her and helped her make decisions, and soon, people started calling you two the Shadow Queen and the Light Queen. And that's when the kingdom took a turn for the worst."
