Little note before hand, this will be the last chapter for a little bit, I'm rewriting the book into my journal so I can spend less time on my phone meaning I won't be writing as much while I'm doing that. It should only take a week but I'll make another chapter if it's longer. Also this needs a better chapter title help

It was the day before Valentine's Day and Janus was pacing around in his room. He had saved a load of money seeing as the orphanage let him stay for free until he was eighteen. He had around three hundred thousand at the moment, as he had started to work odd jobs since he was eight, and then getting a high paying job by the time he was fourteen. He of course didn't save every penny, as he had bought many things for birthdays or special occasions for the little kids at the orphanage. He of course also bought things for Virgil's birthdays and what not. Anyways, he planned on taking the group out and buying them things they really wanted and then take them to a fancy diner. However he wasn't sure if anyone had allergies or maybe they would think that since he didn't just outright buy them their things that it would show he didn't know them that well. He quickly got an idea, he grabbed his phone, opening the group chat. It was too early for Logan or Patton to be up but he was sure Virgil was awake as Virgil never really slept.

Janus-Pronouns Virgil?

Virgil-She/hers

Janus-Okay, so, would everyone in the chat be okay with me bringing them to get something they really want or would you want me to pick it myself and it be a surprise?

Virgil-I mean, I'm fine with going and picking out what I want but I'm not dating you haha

Logan-Why are you two awake?

Patton-good morning everyone!what's happening?

Janus-thank god everyone's awake now, since Logan has yet to respond I'm going to just re type the question.

Logan-I was simply getting ready for the day and lost track of time momentary

Patton- that's alright Lo-lo! We all do it sometimes.

Logan-Pet names?

Patton-well, I don't know it just felt right I guess

Virgil-that's alright Pat, Lo's just grumpy because he had to wake up

Logan-that's not why, whatever, Janus you had a question?

Janus- Yeah, would you guys be okay with me just bringing you to the store and you guys picking things out you want for Valentine's Day or would that seem like I don't know you guys enough so I should just find what I think you'll like.

Patton-I'm fine with whatever's easy for you! I just wanna spend time with you guys!

Virgil-How sweet. However too sweet because it's too early in the morning.

Logan- it's 7:00?

Virgil- exactly

Janus-what about you Logan? What do you think?

Logan-I've never dated, so I don't see how this is a big problem? Or why it was even brought up? Is gifts and whatnot not just the sentiment that the other cared enough to give you that item?

Virgil-And I'm meant to be who gives deep theory's and what not

Janus-I suppose it is that way.

Patton-Lo's right! It doesn't matter what it is we get or if we get anything at all! It's that we're spending time together!

Virgil-Right, how about we get ready for school and whatever instead of talking about deep theory's about Valentine's Day even though I would love to.

Janus-Alright Alright, the Matrons are knocking on my door wondering why I haven't left yet anyways

Virgil-Another long night?

Janus-no for once, just worried about Valentine's Day

Janus-Don't worry about it Lo, I'll tell you guys eventually I hope

Patton-That's alright Jan-Jan!

Virgil- Can we stop talking to get ready?

Logan- I'm already waiting at the bus stop for Patton

Patton- LO!

Janus laughed softly, he loved these fools, he was pretty sure the reason why the three attracted feeling so fast was because of the whole soulmate thing. It was said on the National Soulmate Associations website that those who were soulmates more commonly fell in love in a matter of days around each other. Maybe that happened with the others. He shook it off, realizing he was going to be late if he kept sitting here thinking about soulmates and what not. He quickly grabbed his scarf Virgil had made with his jacket and bag, walking out of his room.

"Janny!" A little kid yelled. Janus turned quickly, thinking something was wrong. The little kids around here saw him as a big brother and often came to him for help and advice.

"Hey there Emma" Janus said crouching to give her a hug. "What's up?"

"What's your friend name again? The one with the pretty purple hair?" Emma asked.

"Her names Virgil, why?" Janus asked.

"Well, can you ask her how she knew she wasn't how she was born?" Janus sat in shock, Emma was seven yes, but had he been blind to the fact Emma might be non binary or maybe transgender, maybe even gender fluid or Demi?

"Of course I can, why do you wanna know?" Janus questioned lightly.

"I don't feel right! I wanna play and do stuff with the boys and not the girls plus I hate those skirts, I wanna be like the boys!" she? huffed.

"Well, I'll ask Virgil and I'll tell you okay? Now go back to bed, it's too early to be awake" Janus said standing.

"But your up!"

"And I'm in high school silly" Emma groaned, turning back to her shared room.

Janus stood at the entrance to the school, talking with Patton and Logan. Well, mostly Patton as Logan was working on a paper he forgot to do the night before. Virgil had yet to show and Janus was getting worried.

"Did Virgil text you guys about not coming?" Janus asked looking towards the school gate.

"Not yet but I'm sure she'll be here soon Jan-Jan" Paton said also worried but trying to stay bubbly.

'I'm sure she's fine' Virgil said simply. Arriving just now.

"She totally fine though! She has never skate boarded to school before so I'm sure she's fine" Janus said his lying tendencies coming out.

"Janus! She's right next to you!" Patton said dragging Virgil into Janus' line of sight.

"Oh, horrible to see you Virgil" Janus said relieved. "Oh wait, good morning what took so long? I was worried"

'Got caught up in foot traffic' she simply shrugged.

'You know, I never thought I'd be the one to do a math homework paper on another's back' Logan said finally taking his paper away from Janus' back which he was using as a hard surface.

'"I thought you had a private teacher? I'm sure they would've been fine if you missed one homework assignment"' Janus signed and said.

'While that may be true,' Logan said pausing to put away his homework, 'my parents don't like when I miss an assignment of any sort, when I had lost my hearing I didn't do my sign homework and I had been grounded for about two weeks' Logan explained.

'Shit dude, thats tough' Virgil said.

'While it may be tough as you put it, it's simply the life I've adapted to' Logan said.

'"We need to get to class you know right?'" Janus said looking at the time. Logan sighed, waving bye to the group.

Janus lugged himself out of the school, going to the normal lunch bench the group now met. Logan day there already, reading a book of short stories. He knew one of his favorites, The Most Dangerous Game sat in that book. He came up to Logan, sitting in front of him. He tapped him lightly. Logan jumped, looking up quickly. He sighed softly seeing Janus.

'I hate when that happens' Logan said simply. He put down his book, grabbing his lunch. 'Wheres your lunch Janus?'

'Virgil's grabbing mine' Janus signed. It was true, Virgil was going to grab something for them both as the two weren't very hungry. Logan nodded. 'Do you have any food allergies?' Janus asked.

'I'm only allergic to lactose, why do you ask?' Logan said.

'Well when I take you guys out on Valentine's Day I want to make sure I don't get something you can't eat!' Janus sighed looking over Logan's shoulder seeing Virgil and Patton. He waved them over.

"Do you have any food allergies Patton?" Janus asked as soon as he sat down.

"Nope! Why? Are you baking something?!" He asked excited.

"No, I'm simply asking so I get something you can't have when we go out on Valentine's Day" Janus said turning to Virgil, taking the yogurt and strawberries she had given to him.

"Well that just mean" Patton huffed. Janus looked over confused.

"What is?"

"You said you were gonna get us something we couldn't have!" Patton said crossing his arms.

"Ah, shit, I'm sorry Patton. Please forgive me, I tend to say the opposite of what I mean sometimes, like when I was talking about Valentines Day. Or even this morning. Virgil can vouch for me if you don't believe me, I should've told you" Janus said quickly.

"It's alright Jan-Jan, I believe you!" Patton said smiling.

'What just happened?' Logan asked. 'It looked like Patton changed from upset to fine in a matter of seconds' He looked between the two, 'also of your going to talk please sign as well, I'd like to know what's happening'

'Sass coming from the nerd wow' Virgil laughed.

'"My, lying tendencies came through while I was talking with Patton, he got upset about what I had said but I explained what it was and he was fine afterwards"' Janus explained.

'Have you ever lied while talking to me?' Logan asked simply.

"'No, it doesn't happen when I sign, the doctors believe it's something to do with how my language center is, they think some neutrons fire when they aren't meant to making my say the wrong thing'" Janus explained. Logan nodded thanking him.

The day was finally over, Janus flopped onto his bed, groaning as he wasn't ready to do his work. A small knock was heard on his door, he got up and opened it. There stood Emma. Shit, he didn't ask Virgil.

"Do you want to call her with me?" Janus asked before she could say anything. Emma nodded enthusiastically. He pressed Virgil's contact, clicking on the face time option.

'Hey, what's up?' She asked.

"Emma wants to ask you a question, it's about your gender, is that ok?" Janus asked politely.

'Yeah go ahead' Emma looked to Janus for translation, as she didn't know sign.

"She said go ahead and ask"

"How did you know that you weren't born right? Because, I wanna be like the boys! They get to do the fun stuff like play football and I hate these stupid skirts, how'd you know?" She asked quickly.

"Well, it's hard to say, I just knew something wasn't always right. Some days I was fine with my body and others I felt like an imposter, is that how you would say you feel?" Janus translated. Emma nodded. "Well, do you always feel like an imposter?" Emma nodded again. "Then you ought be transgender, do you know what that means?"

"No, what's that?" Emma asked.

"It's when your either a boy or a girl born in the wrong body, so with you, you were born a girl, but your actually a boy" Virgil explained before Janus translated it. Emma smiled.

"Thank you Virgil!" She said happily. Virgil smiled lightly before saluting.

'That all?' Virgil asked after Emma left.

"Yeah, sorry about that" Janus mumbled.

'It's alright, now go pick out your date outfit! Your taking Logan and Patton on a date tomorrow and I'm like the third wheel! Get off the damn call and get to it!' She said laughing.

"Wow thanks Virgil, I'll get right to it you third wheel" Janus laughed.

'I love you jerk' Virgil said.

"Love you too" Janus had wished it was more then just a friendship type of thing, he waved bye before ending the call and sighing, how was he going to tell her? He wanted to tell her desperately but had no one to go to to ask. Maybe he could go to Patton...
