Chapter 7 - Flying Class

Alyssa woke up smiling, which was a surprise. Normally she would be waking up sobbing about Rivaria. She shuddered, thinking about her usual nightmare.

Then she remembered what happened last night. "Bleh..." she groaned, not wanting to get up and face them again. After five minutes Hermione sighed and dragged her out of bed by her feet. Thump. "Ow... Mione why did you do that? I thought you loved me" she complained. "Come on, you need to get ready for classes. Breakfast is going to start in 45 minutes." Mione scolded her. "Fine." She grumbled and promptly unrolled herself from the blanket burrito she had been in.

Alyssa waved her wand randomly and poofed cleanly into her uniform, smelling fresh. She blinked in surprise but shrugged it off, figuring it was just another part of the wizarding world. Happy now that she didn't have to do anything, she flopped back onto the bed.

Hermione turned around again, ready to scold her, only to find a perfectly ready Alyssa. "How did you do that?!" She asked, astonished. "I dunno, I just waved my wand kind of, and poof! Clean Lyssa." She replied lazily. Hermione shook her head and finished up.

Together they walked down the stairs to the Great Hall. Alyssa kicked the doors open and shouted, "Ohayo minna!" Everyone stared at her confused. "It means Good morning everyone in Japanese. Japanese is my first language. English is my second. I learned English when I was about.... I think five?" She said plainly, and pulled a shocked Mione over to their table.

"Alyssa. You might not think this, but you are a genius of sorts." Mione said. Her cyan eyes blinked, before explaining. "Actually Mione, I'm on an average scale. Where I come from, our language is a mix of the two. So my adoptive mother taught me both." Mione just shook her head, and said something about "being impossible."

She shrugged it off and began to eat, piling bacon onto her plate. Once she was done eating, she dragged the already finished Mione to class.

The day flew by quickly for Alyssa, who had gotten Gryffindor 30 points already by lunch. But that wasn't the talk of the first years. Instead, everyone was chattering about flying class. She scoffed. It was easy. She did it all the time with Serena.

Speaking of the exceed, she was snoozing in her bag. But Alyssa did wonder how people flew. She most definitely knew that they didn't use exceeds.

She listened to people's conversations, figuring out that they used brooms.

So many people had tales to tell, but she doubted that all of them were true. Although she did believe that Ron almost crashed into a muggle hang glider, but to her, that didn't seem like something to brag about. Seemed pretty stupid to her.

Still, there was nothing she could do about it, so she simply shook her head and waited until the classes came round.

Once it came, everyone was chatting animatedly while she stood there awkwardly. The professor came quickly and yelled sharply at them to pick a broom. They rushed to pick a spot, and Alyssa was lucky to get a spot between Mione and Ron. At least she wasn't with some stranger. As usual, Serena was sleeping in her bag, which she had set down against the wall.

"Stick out your right hand over your broom and say 'up!'" Madam Hooch called from the front. "Up!" Everyone shouted. Harry's, along with Alyssa's immediately jumped into their hands, but not everyone got those results. Hermione's simply rolled over. The class continued to call to their brooms until it worked, although she didn't get why they simply couldn't bend over and pick it up.

Madam Hooch went around, correcting everyone's grips. Quite a few people laughed when she told Malfoy he had been doing it wrong for years. And she was one of those people.

"When I blow this whistle, I want you to push off, fly a few feet into the aid, and come back down." But Neville pushed off too hard too soon. Madam Hooch didn't even have time to put the whistle to her lips.

He rose up high, until he was at a height of what must have been twenty feet. Then he fell, and the back of his robes it caught on a statue. Alyssa frowned and looked at the situation, trying to find a solution.

A faint creaking noise reached her ears, and she spotted a thin line spreading over the statue. She sighed. She was going to have to do something that she hadn't done in a while.

She backed away from the wall until she had a good amount of sprinting space, and faced the brick wall. Alyssa took one last glance at Neville's terrified face, and took off. The ground seemed to whiz by as she ran fast. Once she reached a few feet from the wall, she jumped onto the wall, and pushed off it, turning to face Neville and tackled him off the statue. When they were a few feet from the ground, she dropped him and dive rolled away to absorb the momentum.

It didn't faze her, after all, she had faced a demon before, but when she looked at Neville she saw how shaken up he was. "T-Than-k yo-you," he managed to stutter out.

Madam Hooch snapped into action. "I'll take the boy to the hospital for a relaxation potion. If I find anyone flying when they're not supposed to, I'll make sure that you are suspended before you can say Quidditch," she ordered. The teacher quickly scurried off with Neville.

"Damn it, now people are going to stare at me again" she muttered crossly.

And indeed they did stare, although they quickly diverted their attention to Malfoy when he sauntered over and picked a glass ball filled with fog up. "Maybe if the fat lump had given this a squeeze he would have remembered to hold on," he sneered. Both Alyssa and Harry frowned. "Give it here Malfoy," they both said sternly, although the dragon slayer thought she was much better at it. Malfoy refused, and that's when their fight was taken into the sky.

Surprisingly it was as easy as flying with Serena. The pair flew through the sky in ease, chasing after the pompous idiot. "You've got no one to protect you up here!" Harry called, and it was clear that he had thought the same thing. Malfoy paled slightly, but then smirked. "Catch it if you can then!" And with that he tossed it up high.

Alyssa shot forward and caught it, but sighed. She knew that soon her asthma could come, even though it hadn't shown since last year. If she didn't take it easy, she could have an attack right there. She threw it to Potter and yelled, "Catch!"

As she flew to the ground, she saw Harry catch the thing after a long dive. Then he flew towards her, and they smiled and shook hands.

Something moved in the corner of her eyes, and she turned to face it. What she saw was an angry Professor McGonagall storming over. The two students paled at her rage.

"I never- could've broken-" Alyssa stopped listening, and started worrying. While this had been just an experiment, Hogwarts and the people there had grown on her and she was sad at the idea of leaving.

Professor McGonagall lead them to a room and opened the door. "Professor Flitwick, may I see Wood for a minute?" She requested.

Soon a burly fifth year came out of the classroom looking confused. The professor lead them to an old classroom, and shooed Peeves out.

"Wood, I've found you a seeker and chaser." The kid named Wood looked delighted at that. Alyssa was confused. What were they talking about?

"Really??" He asked excitedly. "Yes. They're both naturals. I know that you're looking for a chaser since Katie Bell quit. Alyssa is the perfect candidate, what with her speed and accuracy. And Potter has the perfect build for a seeker. Perhaps I can speak to Dumbledore and get them both Nimbus Two Thousands," her voice slowly became more excited.

Alyssa blinked. Were they even going to ask if they wanted to do whatever they were talking about?

"Ever played a game of Quidditch?" He asked them excitedly. "Wood's the captain of the Gryffindor team," McGonagall added. Then the two were off, talking about this Quidditch thing. By the time they left, all she could remember was that she had just become a chaser for something called Quidditch and would be receiving a broom soon.

When they told Ron at dinner, he wouldn't believe it. Although she didn't stay to see the rest of his reaction. Once she was done eating, she went up to the dormitory to rest so that she could practice her flying tomorrow. But of course she finished her homework with Mione first. At first Mione was mad about her breaking the rules, but when Alyssa explained why she did it, she was (almost)  instantly forgiven.

Alyssa laid down in content, happy with all that she had accomplished that day. Serena snuggled into her chest and fell asleep. Her last thought was that the two Fiorians hadn't been able to hang out with each other for a while, and it made her sad.

With that she drifted off into the lands of nightmares.

Hey hatchlings! Its been so long since I have updated, and for that I apologize. I remember I started this chapter 5 days ago, but for some reason I couldn't manage to finish it. Hopefully I have done good on this chapter and you enjoyed it. Sorry if some of the dialogue was wrong, it was a bit hard to write. I hope you like the song! But it was a bit random. Remember to vote, comment, and follow/share!
