Shrink's Office
The office was a dullish grey and the shrink's piercing blue eyes made Myra want to hide. Of course, it didn't help that Justin was right beside her.
"Ms. Stevenson and Mr. Renaldo, my name is Sarai Richardson, but you will address me as Mrs. Richardson," her cold, calculating eyes seemed to pierce deep within her soul. Myra had a nagging feeling in her mind that something was off. She glanced at Justin. He seemed to be unaware.
"Now, I realize this situation is odd, but under these special circumstances I hope to fix you," she said as though it were perfectly normal to say that. She adjusted her glasses over her greying hair.
"What's wrong with you, Ms. Stevenson?" She asked. Weren't shrink's supposed to be sympathetic and more caring? Myra thought.
"What do you mean?" She returned the question with a question.
"Why did you come here?" She rephrased. Myra hated the sound of her voice already.
"I had nightmares," she murmured embarrassed that Justin could hear.
"About?" She pressed. Uncomfortable, she responded with, "I was in a forest and I was running. I didn't know what to do. I was afraid."
"Were you being chased? By a creature? Perhaps a dragon?" she asked almost eagerly.
"This is a bad idea".....a voice seemed to whisper to her.
"Uh, well there was just a dark creature. I couldn't make out what it was." Justin was staring at her intently. She felt heat rush to her cheeks. He seemed to know something.
" Are you sure? It in no way resembled a dragon?" she asked almost disappointed.
"Well, I couldn't make it out," Myra lied, hoping she sounded convincing. For some reason, it just didn't seem right to tell her. Mrs. Richardson scribbled something on notebook paper.
"Why do you even care so much about dragons?" Justin blurted out curious and almost defensive.
"Well, if it was a dragon, it could symbolize a much more serious health problem than just simple nightmares," Mrs. Richardson said smoothly.
"A serious health problem," echoed in her ears and Myra looked down, content now to stare at the floor. What if it was true?
"Were than any other particular dreams?"
"Just one more, I had a dream about a voice calling out to me and I ran away and plunged into darkness,"
"Were you afraid of the voice?" She asked.
"No, it was almost comforting, but I still ran," she confessed.
"I can tell you without a doubt that the voice is bad. Don't listen to it" she said firmly.
"Okay," Myra said, not quite convinced.
"What about you, Mr. Renaldo?" She addressed Justin. "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing," he responded confidently. His voice held virtually no trace of a Spanish accent.
"Then why are you here?" She snapped.
"Well, I was just having problems but I'm good now," he said.
"The truth, Mr. Renaldo," she coerced him with her voice.
"Okay, I was having nightmares," he sighed. "My mom thought it would be a good idea to visit a shrink, much to my disapproval. That's why I'm here," he said bluntly. His green eyes flashed.
"The truth is I was by myself in a forest and giant spiders were following me, I was terrified," he said. Myra thought that was a lie. The bell rang. That wasn't so bad, she thought to herself.
"Here are some papers I want you to fill out," she said and handed them out. Myra glanced at the paper. It had information about her blood type and address. It was strange. She walked out.
"Hey!" Justin's voice called out behind her. She turned around, her heart beat sped up. "Is your name Myra?"
"Yes," she confirmed.
"I need to tell you something at lunch today," he said, serious.
"Is this a joke?" she asked cautiously. He laughed.
"No, it's serious. Don't you trust me?" He said, looking into her eyes. His green eyes were the greenest she had ever seen. She didn't know why, but she did feel that she could trust him.
"Okay, " she gave in.
