Get Out

"I just want you to be careful next time," her mom's voice pleaded with her.
"I was," Myra snapped at her hastily.
"No, you weren't. If you were, you never would have gone and eaten with that boy,"
That's not even what we were doing, Myra wanted to reply, but she knew if she told her mom then there would be only more questions and of the kind she couldn't answer. If she even told her mom what she had learned, then her mom would think she was crazy. Then a thought dawned on her, what if her mom knew? It seemed like an extremely unlikely possibility. Her mom wasn't exactly the type to go for a dragon. But then was her dad a liar? Had her dad deceived her? Is that why he was always away? Is that why he seemed to be disconnected? Her mom had continued her lecture, but Myra was lost in her own thoughts.
"Young lady, are you even listening to me?" her mom said, her voice strained.
"Yes,"
"Your father will hear about this,he's coming home today,"her mom threatened her.
"Okay, that's fine," Myra gritted her teeth. "It's not like he cares about us anyway," she mumbled under her breath.
"You know that's not true," her mom said, her tone instantly softer.
"How do you know? He's never around anymore," Myra bit back.
Her mom let out a long sigh, she had hit a sore spot, and Myra didn't care.
"He has his reasons," Myra's mom finally said.
Does she know? Myra thought wondering. She was anxious to ask anything about dragons.
An awkward silence fell on them for the remainder of the trip. Myra was trying to think of the best way to bring it up. She finally decided on saying that it was a cultural project about dragons, how different cultures viewed different things.
"Umm, Mamma? Do you know anything about dragons?"
Her mom's eyes instantly widened.
"Get out," she whispered frantically.
"Huh? It was only a question."
"Get out now," Myra's eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn't believe her mom was acting like that. Her mom had always been at least almost sensible. Her mom shook her
head at her response and motioned in front of them. Their house was on fire.
Arthur's Note: I know it's really short, but I just had a splendid idea. I'm not giving up, and I'm going to push through. Now, this story will be under fantasy. Thank you everyone who has commented and read it especially Jfaith37 .
