Another Step in the Wrong Direction
Matt and I pulled out our wands in unison.
"Uncle Nate?" He called.
No answer.
"Uncle Nate?" He tried again.
Still no answer.
He drew in another breath and I shushed him. We listened and and the only sound we heard was the fire in the fireplace crackling nervously.
I crept to the door and slowly opened it. I peeked into the hall. No one there. I turned around and motioned for Matt to follow me. We both stepped into the hallways and suddenly she was there, the curly blonde with the red tips haired girl.
"Expeliurumas!" She yelled and both our wands went flying. "Nuh-uh." She waved her wand at my hand traveling into my pocket that held my real wand. "I know that fake wand trick."
"You have fake wands?" Matt whispered.
I ignored him and demanded "What are you doing here?!"
"You summoned me, you idiot!"
"No, I didn't."
"You told this bloke," she waved her wand in Matt's direction. "About being an Obsurial. And nearly about us."
"So?" I snapped.
"So, he needs to die."
"What?! No!" My Obscurial form swirled inside of me and a bit of mist curled around my cheek.
She frowned, hesitating. Slowly, she lowered her wand.
"Don't tell the PM I'm doing this."
I stared at her, shocked.
"What?"
"And, Whitehurst," she fingered her wand. "I'm sorry. I really have nothing to do with it."
"With what?"
Instead of answering, she disappeared.
There was a moment of silence. Matt suddenly pushed my shoulder so that I faced him.
"Who was that?" He demanded.
"She works for the PM. Um, you know how started talking to myself around the time Millie's family "died"?"
"Yes," he said slowly.
"I was talking to her."
"She was in your head?"
"In a matter of speaking, yes."
He raked a hand through his already mussed hairdo. "Why are you letting them do this?"
"When you guys "died" really it was the PM taking you captive. She returned you only when I promised my services to her."
"That's messed up. What does PM stand for?"
"Puppet Master. In my opinion she's inclined to theatrics."
He smiled appreciatively.
"But, why you? She knew you're a Obscurial?"
"No. I'm not sure why she picked me. And, um, she was the one that..."
Matt stared at me and I saw it register in his eyes. "She turned me into a werewolf."
"She felt I was becoming disobedient and had to remind me she still has access to you two."
"So you're killing and doing all this stuff to keep Millie and I alive?"
I swallowed and nodded.
He frowned and mulled this over. Suddenly, he looked up.
"Uncle Nate."
We found Nate Ludiker in his office, lying unconscious in broken glass. Apparently the girl knocked him out when she had apparated into the house. As he was falling he must have bumped into a table with potions on it.
We picked him up out of the glass and set him on a chair. I quickly repaired the glass with a flick of my wand while Matt woke his uncle up.
"What... what happened?" Nate Ludiker mumbled.
"You must have whiffed a potion that knocked you out," I quickly stated.
Matt gave me a look but didn't say anything.
"Oh, that makes sense." Nate rubbed his face. "You two go back to whatever you were doing. Don't let me bother you."
Matt and I looked at each. We had a lot to talk about anyway so we retired back to his room.
"Y'know," he poked my cheek. "You're not very Slytherin-esc."
I recoiled like a snake. "Excuse me? What part of I killed people do you not understand."
He rolled his eyes. "Slytherins only kill if someone is in their way. They you weren't in your way. But, point being, you don't seem to be determined or ambitious."
"When... when I was sorted I did," I rubbed my fingernails on my lips thoughtfully. "I wanted to be everything. An Auror, a wizard business owner, or even the minister of magic!"
"I feel like the hat wouldn't sort you on momentary ambitions."
"Maybe it saw the darkness in me."
Matt gave me a doubtful look. "How could there be darkness in your soul at eleven?"
I tapped my cheek bone thoughtfully. "Do you know a person becomes an Obscurial?"
"Um, their magic was suppressed, right?"
I nodded. "Or they are being attacked a lot and that magic building inside them bursts out and attacks the person. Most often the person that develops the Obscurial form is a child. I'm not aware of any way to get rid of it."
"Who suppressed your magic and attacked you?"
I started to fiddle with my robe sleeve. "My step-father. I started to show signs of magic. I could make things move and float without touching them. Sometimes I could make me float. Once, when I was about five there was a mouse scurrying around my room. It was bothering me and I looked at it as it scurried along the wall and wished it would just die. And it did. It just dropped dead. It scared me and I buried it in the back yard. Out of sight out of mind.
"My step-father noticed this as well," I continued. "He started to yell at me every time I used my magic. A few times he even struck me, but nothing bad. I tried to push my magic down but it kept growing stronger and bursting out of me like... like a bottle of shaken up soda."
I shifted in my seat. "The thing about him was that in his drunken stupor he was usually angry. He already had a drinking problem and it was gradually getting worse. Him and my mother would get in fights. His abuse soon wasn't limited to every time I used my magic. If I are any of my siblings were even standing in his way he wasn't afraid to box our ear to make us move. We didn't want to tell anyone because we thought he'd get over it. Then when I was seven I threatened to call the police. He swore that if I did he would kill me and the rest of my family. He meant it.
"But one night when I was eight it got really bad. He came home after a long day of drinking and he and my mother started quarreling in the kitchen. My older sister was at a friend's house for a sleepover so I was the eldest child in the house. I tried to stop my parents but I got shoved aside. Mary was just a toddler and couldn't stop crying. Then at the peak of the fighting my step-father grabbed a chair and smashed it over my mom's head. He then tried to go after me and my siblings."
I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to bring my breathing back to normal.
Matt grabbed my shoulder. "You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to."
"It's... it's fine. I have to tell someone."
"Whatever makes you feel best."
I nodded and continued. "He tried to go after me and my sisters but using my magic I pushed them away from him and slid them into a room and locked it. He tried to kick it in but, again using my magic, I yanked all the furniture in the room in front of the door. Only problem was I wasn't able to get in the room with my sisters so I got the full brunt of his anger. He smashed a glass bottle over my head and beat me with a baseball bat that had been left lying around. When he was finally done I was nearly dead so he just dragged me to a closet and locked me in it. He decided to leave my sisters alone and take a nap.
"I don't know how long I lay in the puddle of my own blood, to shocked and in pain to cry. The neighbors had heard a commotion and called the police and when they got there-."
Suddenly I sat bolt upright.
"What?!" Matt exclaimed.
"The girl apologized for what was about to happen!"
"What girl?" Matt thought I was still telling the story.
"The one you just met, bozo. She said "I'm sorry. I really have nothing to do with it." Last time she said something like that someone that I cared about got hurt."
Matt looked at me and in unison we said:
"Millie."

Millie
Ashe and I had long since moved out of our parents' house but we still kept up the tradition of birthday parties at home.
But, as lovely as the party was, it had to end so that Ashe and I could get to work on time the next day. Ashe was working at the English ministry but would soon be transferring over to the French ministry's magical creatures department.
I was so sick and tired of being inside all the time so instead of walking out of my parents' and apparating straight back to my apartment, I apparated just a little bit away so that I could wander the streets of Hogsmeade alone. Don't get me wrong, I love being around people, but having a break away is very nice sometimes.
As I walked through the night kissed streets I thought about all the Hogwarts field trips here. As I walked past the candy shop I could smell all the exotic and strange wizarding candy. Amazing.
"Marowski? Millie Marowski?"
I looked around and smiled.
"Luke Dell!"
He walked over to me. "I haven't seen you in ages! How's it going?"
"Oh, just exploring Hogsmeade, reminiscing."
Luke laughed. "So was I. Want to do it together?"
I nodded and we talked and laughed as we walked along.
"How's Lucy?" I asked.
"Oh, she's fine. She's currently overseas looking for a species of dragon that's said to be extinct."
"Is she? That's cool!"
He nodded. "Hey, there's the shrieking shack," he pointed out.
We were outside of Hogsmeade now, all alone.
"What about you, Luke, what have you been up to?"
Zander
Matt and I went to Millie's apartment first. She should be home by now.
Millie
His face turned uncharacteristically dark. "Bad stuff."
I laughed, thinking it was another one of his jokes. "No, really."
Matt
Zander and I thundered on the door and called for her. She didn't answer. The person in the next apartment said that they didn't hear her come back. But, oh, couldn't we keep the noise down?
Millie
He reached into his robes and pulled out a metal canister. He looked at me. "You're a great person, Marowski. I'm sorry I have to do this."
"What?"
Zander
Matt and I quickly apparated to Hogsmeade where Millie's parents lived. We knocked and she wasn't home.
Millie
I started to reach for my wand but he twisted the top of the canister open and sprayed my face with the fumes.
I dropped my wand, coughing wildly.
Matt
So we started to search. I couldn't calm Zander down.
"Maybe she just took a walk," I reasoned. "Seems like something she would do."
But it didn't work. For either of us.
Millie
I fell on my knees which turned into paws I could the fur growing on my body. I was turning into my Animagus form. I couldn't think, I couldn't breath.
And then I heard Luke say:
"Right, let's get you into position."
And I heard the popping noise apparating makes.
And that's where I stop remembering.
