Two Years and One Month
"Why is he here?"
Katrina ignored Terrence's statement as she closed the front door behind his frantic steps. The energy in her foyer shifted the moment he entered. The calm, coziness that had teemed through her house that Saturday morning had been eradicated by his presence. She inhaled a deep breath before turning towards him to see a person that she didn't recognize. Disheveled clothes didn't cover up the unsteadiness of his posture or the crimson sea in his eyes. She knew this week had been hard for him, it didn't start off ideal and not like he planned. Monday was the day they met with the judge to proceed with the petition for divorce.
To her surprise, he pleaded with her to drop the petition. His reasons were sound and she understood them. They were working great as co-parents and their friendship was beginning to mend but after stepping into the courtroom she remembered what was best for her growth and mind and not just what was best for Nori. So, knowing she had to be in the best environment to be the best person and mother for Nori she decided to continue with the divorce and explained her reasons why to the judge.
"Are you drunk?" She looked him up and down more scrutinizing. "You are. And you drove here." She glanced over her shoulder, double-checking her memory of him pulling his coupe in the driveway behind Keir's Ducati. "You're drunk. You need to go home and sober up. Drink some water. Take a shower and get some sleep. I know this was a tough week."
He hissed with a shake of his head. "You don't give a shit. Don't act like you do now." He waved off her concern and started to advance to the stairs but she leaped to the stairs cutting off his path. "Trina move! I'm here to pick up my daughter or are you going to take her away from me too."
"No one's taking anyone away from you." She gripped the stair railing leering down at him. "You just need some time to collect yourself before trying to care for her." Her features softened as she watched his eyes go to the side and ponder on her words.
He started to back away from the stairs as he slid a hand down the side of his face feeling the roughness of the unkept beard that sprouted throughout the week like a chia pet. And then the common sense drained from his psyche with the presence of Keir exiting the kitchen.
"Hey, man." Keir chipperly started, drying his hand on a towel then flung it over his shoulder. "Didn't know you made it. The carbonara is almost done, you want—" His eyes registered the subtle way Katrina shook her head.
Keir abandoned the surprise that engulfed him from the presence of Terrence, surveyed the scene before him, and studied the pensive uneasiness painting Katrina's face. "Let's get some coffee while K gets Nori ready."
"Who the fuck is K?" He sneered then refocused on Katrina. "Get out my way, Trina, or I'll move you."
"You're not touching her." Keir insisted, nearing the stairs. "Nor are you leaving with Nori. Come to the kitchen, get some coffee and water so you can start thinking with a sound mind."
Terrence chuckled mirthlessly and Katina felt a charge in the air like foil placed into a running microwave.
"Start thinking with a sound mind," Terrence repeated Keir's words with disgust then turned his words to Katrina. "That's what you need to do. Do you really think this young asshole is going to still want your ass after he's had his fill of your pussy? I mean it's good but it gets repetitive."
Katrina recoiled at his words and spewed the only words that came to her mind. "Fuck you."
"If she gets lazy dick then her performance will be repetitive." Keir declared chipping away at the space between him and Terrence with fury blazing in his brown eyes. "But her sex life isn't your concern, it's mine. And she is the mother of your child. You should have more respect for her." Keir shook his head and then corrected. "You will have more respect for her. I will make it so."
"And what the hell is that supposed to mean?" Terrence bit out, removing the inch of space between them.
Keir took a half-step back, a movement that was missed during Katrina's haste to appear at their sides. The last thing she wanted was a standoff of masculine energy.
"Terrence, please. Don't do this." She pleaded, with a consoling hand to his arm.
"Bitch, don't fucking touch me." Terrence hissed, pushing her away from me. "I don't need your fake concern. You don't give a shit about me."
The force of his one-handed push knocked her off balance and she almost missed it. But Terrence couldn't dodge the blow of Keir's fist. Once his fist connected with Terrence's orbital socket Katrina knew things wouldn't be the same.
What do you think happened next?
Why do you think Keir hit Terrence, given that he's never resulted in the action of violence?
Why do you think Terrence told Katrina "You don't give a shit about me"?
Do you think Katrina was in the right to not allow Terrence to take Nori?
