Chapter 16

Greystar nodded. "Starclan is telling us where to go. Obviously, the wolf is Silverheart, the lion is Lionclaw, and the moon is Moonstripe. Now, all we have left are volunteers. Are there any in this Gathering?"

There was silence. Nobody wanted to get killed.

Whiteclaw stepped forward. "I will go. These young cats do not know around this forest, and will need my guidance."

Silverheart beamed. Whiteclaw was definitely the strong type. But would he actually risk his life, even though he was deputy?

"I'll join," Arrowfeather said from the back of the crowd. "I've been waiting for an adventure long ever since my journey with Flamepaw... But this matter is bigger." She mewed.

Greystar nodded curtly at the two. "We need one more volunteer."

Woodclaw shakily stood up. "I will support my clanmates in this time of need." He shuddered. "And do it to save the apprentices."

His mate looked at him. "What about our kits?" She croaked.

Woodclaw nuzzled her. "I promise I'll come back alive Dawnpool," he murmured. "For you and our kits."

Spiritstar coughed. "We have an agreement then. Dragonclan and Flameclan will support you when our apprentices return. Right Blazestar?"

Blazestar rolled his eyes but nodded. "Yes." He muttered.

"Alright," Greystar meowed. "This gathering is over!"

He jumped down the rock and joined his clanmates. They soon walked back to their camp.

"Gee," Moonstripe said. "To be honest, I'm really scared." She said once they arrived.

Whiteclaw walked up to them. "Don't worry. We leave at sun high tomorrow and Ferntail will bring us herb packages."

Arrowfeather and Woodclaw padded up to them. "We're nervous too," Arrowfeather admitted. "I can't just leave my idiotic mate Bladewing behind."

"It's hard to leave my kits too." Woodclaw mewed. "They will begin their lives without a father."

Silverheart lowered her head.

Lionclaw padded up to her and brushed flanks with her. "We will be fine," he said soothingly.

"It's time to sleep," Whiteclaw announced. "There will be a big journey tomorrow, and we must rest up."

They all nodded and went inside their nests.

Silverheart put her head on her paws.

Starclan, please guide us. She prayed.
