The Death of Aku-Umi
The ground kicked up dust as Kur slid to a stop and let the others catch up to them. The land mass was vast but Kur was more focused on the thought of the rescue of someone that was innocent and was brought into this situation without their own consent. It worried Kur but they knew that there was still time thanks to Chuma's encouragement and his words of confidence that in the end there is a sliver of chance everything will fall into place and there will be hope to save Emerald. "Kur please wait," Kur could hear Chuma say from behind them.
Kur looked behind them to see Chuma leaning forward looking into the pit and then at the compound in front of them. "I smell the stench of blood," Chuma huffed as he readjusted his hat. "Definitely injuries were sustained but for now I need to get to the injured and I am hoping it's not life-threatening as I cannot bring back the dead. Only several injuries and non-life-threatening injuries I can heal to near complete. So what's the plan now?" Chuma asked as Kur sighed and looked towards the compound.
"First, I and my men will cover you while you grab Emerald and start to heal the child," Burakku gruffed out after he caught up to both Kur and Chuma, "Lord Kur wants to face off Aku-Umi, something about a closure to the words that they said to Lord Kur while the invasion was happening but don't worry Chuma," Burakku threw up his hands when Chuma pivoted his head fast towards Burakku, "Woah, don't worry I will have some of my men cover their six and four why would I let the one I serve without protection. No need to glare at me my lich friend," Chuma sighed before looking back at Kur. "Are you sure you are going to be fine fighting Aku-Umi?"
Kur sighed as they looked back at Chuma, "I have to do this, those words that they said to me all this time have been ringing in my head constantly and I just wish for those words to cease. I need to confront this by myself and I promise I will be careful... after all...I did promise Velacera that I would come back didn't I?" Kur gave a weak smile as their hand started to shake. "I see just promise me you won't let your rage and anguish consume you?" Chuma asked concern filling his voice. "I cannot fully understand that but I will promise that if I need to step away I will look for a way out and escape and recuperate my thoughts before getting back into being involved. I just need to settle this feeling of emptiness and the taste of regrets."
"Hey," Chuma started, Kur looked back at Chuma, "It's alright to feel emotions but it's also smart to not act on the urge and instincts that your body wants to do. Think through every thought that crosses your mind." Kur nodded their head as they gritted their teeth as heard another sharp yelp of pain. "What in the hell are they doing in there," Burakku cussed underneath his breath as Kur hissed air between their teeth. "Not good," Chuma commented as he grabbed the sleeve of Kur's jacket, "remember what I just mentioned just try and think every thought through before acting on them."
Burakku chuckled as he walked up to the door, "Well, let us crash their twisted party," Burakku huffed as he kicked the door. Knocking the door off the hinges and sending the door flying several floors and sending many shadows into the wall on the opposite side, "name's Burakku, the Devil of the Neverland Star, the Pirate devil of the nebula milky-way oceans, Bounty hunter for hire for the greater good and also here for my own personal vendetta... you killed many of my subordinates and fellow lumerians when you attacked my star...and now you're gonna pay for their lives dearly." Burakku gave an evil chuckle as his cape started to sway and flicker into flames and whip violently as his eyes pinkened and red glowing pupils form in the skull head as a dark aura surround Burakku. "They don't call me the Devil of Nightmares without a reason," Burakku crackled as his shadow grew in size, "so be prepared to meet your worst nightmares right now."
"Well dang," Chuma sighed, "he does a show with everything like you said... wait... Emerald is over there?!" Kur followed Chuma's sight and found Emerald laying on the ground unmoving. Kur froze to the spot as they carefully looked over Emerald's conditions from afar. Sure they had seen lumerians and demons' bodies alike torn to shreds but how come seeing Emerald's condition freeze their very core? It felt very unreal but they know that everything around them was happening in real-time. Snapping back to reality as they heard the same voice as before, snapping around they faced Aku-Umi, "so you actually survived and became a void... such a shame I gotta get rid of you now." Aku-Umi gave an evil smirk Kur tried to think but before they could Aku-Umi sent a chained weapon in front of them. Acting quickly Kur dodged and teleported behind Aku-Umi and raised their right leg, preparing to bring it down on top of Aku-Umi's head.
Logic thinking will have to be sub-partial for them as they needed to focus on getting the advantage of Aku-Umi and defeating them first and second-guessing certain thoughts when they get the time to do so.
~~~Chuma's POV~~~
Running over quickly I slid under one shadow that tried to grab at me. Nearly getting tackled by another I raised up my cane/wand to send out a flare but watched as several of Burakku's men tackled the growing shadows and pushed them far away from me. Huffing I got to my knees in front of Emerald and flipped her over to asset her wounds. Shoot. I cannot save her wings but I can definitely save her life. Gritting my teeth I turned her fully over and grabbed the loose wrappings from my bag and grabbed the bottle of water before opening the bottle and letting it stream over the wounds. But she didn't give any reactions to the cold water washing over her hot wounds. That is never a good sign. Shoot. Looking up I looked around before wrapping the freshly washed wounds in the clean wrappings tightly around the stubs of her wings and around her chest to keep them in place.
Her core's pulse. Touching my pointer and middle finger to her neck I could feel the light pulse. But it's slowly digressing. I am losing her. I can't let her suffer and die or send Kur into a relapse of their past I need to stabilize her quickly. Huffing I closed my eyes and called forth my aura as the familiar warmth surrounded my hands and the hue of indigo surround my gloved hands. Good, I can call forth my powers here. Maybe even more as the indigo is brighter than normal this time around. Maybe I can do a little more. Use this to my advantage. Placing my hands over her back and pushed my aura on top of the wounds gritting my teeth under my mask. Pushing it slowly and slowly mumbling the incantations I was taught over and over again but seeing no progress. What's wrong?! What's going on?! Why isn't it working?! Shoot. No. I can't fail this... not again... the indigo aura faded as I grabbed my mask unlatching the buckets and throwing them to the side. Shoot. I am one to talk as I just let my frustration and panic take over.
Shoot. Why won't it heal?! I have healed hundreds and have healed the nearly impossible... for shooting out loud I have healed eldritch beings and hellspawns... celestials thrive on healing properties but why isn't it working and healing Emerald instead?! I felt the burning hot prickling of hot tears in the corners of my eyes. Am I that frustrated to that point of tears? Did I fail again at healing?... No. Something is not right... Something is missing or that was added to the process. That has to be it?! Unwrapping the wrappings carefully I looked over the wounds and slowly saw the oozing foaming reddish-purple liquid. Poison. A cursed item can cause the same form of poison that prevents healing and healing magic. That's it! I didn't fail this, I was too much in a rush to realize it. Simple little mistakes can be corrected and fixed I sighed in relief as I grabbed a jar of herbs I set aside in case I ever crossed something like this I set some in a bowl and grabbed my marble rock stirrer and poured a little water into the bowl and started to gravel it out into the mixture.
I can save her still. Emerald can live another day and Kur won't relapse into their current mind of failure of gaining closure and I won't feel the same way about losing a patient like before. I can still save Emerald. I still have my morals in place. That's what makes me different than other liches. I have morals and am not mindless like the others. That's why I gained my title of Graveyard doctor. I can save those who are near death. Finishing up by mixing the herbs and water I gently lathered it onto the open wounds as the foaming stopped and soon became clean red marks. The poison/ curse was removed taking out new bandages and re-wrapping her wings and around her chest. I flipped her back over and taking a deep breath I called back forth my aura and watched the bright indigo color return to my hands as I placed my hands on top of her chest and watch other injuries disappear.
Yes. She's healing. She is going to make it. But something is off. What's wrong? Look around. Snapping my head up I scanned the area before me. In the corner of my eye, I see a shadow running towards Kur on their nine. The only area that isn't protected. Shoot. Velacera's promise. "KUR," my voice came out hoarse but still loud enough to make the shadow skid to a stop, "LOOK OUT!!!!" before I could say any more an enormous clawed hand swiped up the shadow and nearly tore off two limps in one go. Is that Burakku? He's enormous! How is that even possible?! There is no way that a 6ft celestial man can grow to nearly a titan standing at +25ft tearing beings like they are tearing paper. Taking another glance at Kur's way I noticed something completely different about them. Their appearance changed.
How did that happen? Wait Izanagi mentioned something about how they weren't supposed to die that day... Did Izanagi give this to them as a gift to get closure? I could hear the whimpering from Emerald as my attention turned back to her. I need to make sure nothing else was affected by the cursed/poisoned items. I held her head still as she came to her eyes glazed over and wildly looking around. Never a good sign at the most. Her memory is going to be hazy and missing in several areas. She is going to have memory loss the one thing I cannot correct or cure her subconscious locked it down. Gritting my teeth I merely kept her head straight as I looked up again to see Kur using the same butterfly technique as what they used on the train to fight the z'mora. Tears are pricking at the corners of their eyes. Their emotions got to them but yet Kur seems not berserk or in anguish. They seemed unnaturally calm as the blast hit Aku-Umi's head destroying their body and core. Kur actually killed them but they didn't show any emotions besides the tears at the corners of their eyes.
Was it because of what was said? Or was it what it was decided for the consequences of Aku-Umi? Squinting my eyes as the light grew brighter, I turned my head and waited until the light faded away. Turning around when I saw no more light, Kur stood there staring at where Aku-Umi once stood. "Go," I turned my head to see Chanile and Burakku standing over me, "we can take it from here... I am too dirty to try and comfort Kur right now... They need it after all... Even I am grieving over the loss of everyone who we lost that day. Chanile can take over from here." Chanile got on her knees next to me as she took Emerald from me as I stood up and looked more closely at Burakku as dark red and purple covered his attire and face and on top of the skull that he wore.
Running over to where Kur stood I hesitantly reached out and grabbed the edge of the silk-like transparent fabric, "Kur?" I hesitantly asked as they turned slightly to me. Their once damaged eye was fully healed without scaring and their right eye glowing a ghostly blue. "I. I killed them. I. I didn't mean to kill them," Kur silently whispered while they looked down at their left hand, "I didn't want to but it felt like it was the right choice. Was I in the wrong?" They're questioning something so faint. Aku-Umi had destroyed everything they once knew and even almost killed several others along the way to getting here but Kur is still second-guessing the rightful choice that was given to them. "Kur," I sighed as I made my voice a little louder as Kur shifted their weight to the other foot, "taking someone's life is never easy when you have a conscious like ours but it's always good to make them see peace through death... They took lives without any thought or remorse which paints them as the ones in the wrong..."
Kur slightly relaxed as I watched the halo's around their head fade as their form reverted back to the form I was used to seeing them as the chains settled around their arms and the ghostly blue eye faded and the scarring returned to their right eye. "But when you took Aku-Umi's life there was a great amount of purification magic in the final light. You were merely doing what you thought was right by purifying them, which resulted at the end of ending Aku-Umi's life as they were too far gone and were already so corrupted that just purifying them resulted in their death." I patted Kur's arm as they leaned over letting shadows fall over their eyes but I could still see the glistening of clear tears form in their eyes. Shoot. I am not well with dealing with tears like this but Kur needs comfort right now. Sighing I opened my arms slightly and gently wrapped my arms around Kur as they merely lightly wrapped their arms around me. Awkward but it seems to work as I heard Kur sigh, "how is Emerald?"
"She survived," I gave a quick sigh, "I didn't give up and neither did you so she can survive. She didn't get corrupted and she can live on." Kur gave a slight chuckle before they let go and moved backward. "That's good," they sounded like they were going to break, "I am glad we were able to save her as well... Is she already on Burakku's ship?" Before I could answer light surrounded us and the next thing I knew we were back on the ship with Burakku giving a frown to the side of us. "She has no memory and she's freaking out over Kur being a blackhole," Chanile said coming up beside Burakku, "I cannot get her to calm down, and apparently she still believes that there are monsters around that killed her older sister... Whatever they did to her has scared her mentally. I suggested we bring her to Akumu No-Kage's Star to start her recovery. However, if you wish to come or not...."
I knew she lost her memory but I didn't think it would be this much, "Kur?" I looked back at Kur to see them looking down again with shadows covering their face. "Go on ahead besides," Kur looked up and over at me, "we've been away from Makai far too long and I am sure Velacera is worried since we haven't contacted him in a while, correct?" Kur's voice cracked with the simple mention of Velacera. They were ready to crack and even I won't be able to help with that. "Y-Yeah I am sure Velacera can't wait for our return. Sorry Burakku, Sorry Chanile we'll be leaving and I do wish for Emerald's full recovery and I hope that Madam Akumu No-Kage is able to help with her recovery," I spoke softly as I rummage through my bag before pulling out the scroll and opened it up as Kur looked over my shoulder. "Well," Burakku started, "I do hope you have a safe journey and you're always welcomed upon my ship any time."
I quickly nodded as Kur had already lit up the scroll and the scenery changed once again. Just outside of the portal once more shadows overcast Kur's face once more. "We're back," I effortlessly breathed out as Kur took a step towards the portal.
