Give Her Back
[Third POV]
As Kur and Chuma entered back on the ship Burakku greeted them, "so are we still heading to the catacombs?" Burakku asked as he tilted his deer skull up a bit on his head. Kur nodded their head before smiling, "very well then we should be there in a few hours." Burakku stated before walking away shouting commands to the others. As Kur sighed and chuckled a bit.
"I'm guessing Burakku has always been that loud?" Chuma asked with a slight pause as Kur nodded their head once more. "It must've always been colorful with him around then..." Chuma thought aloud as Kur chuckled.
"He was much louder and flirtatious back on my Star," Kur sighed as they looked ahead of the hallway, "everyone was very vocal on my star... I really do miss everyone..." Kur trailed off a bit with a sorrowful hint to their voice. Chuma noticed the small hint of sorrow in Kur's voice as he sighed.
"Is it still painful?" Chuma asked as Kur looked at him with a questionable look in their gaze, "what I mean is does it still feel like you are being crushed... With all the guilt of not being able to do nothing even though you tried your hardest but it wasn't enough?" Chuma watched as Kur took a step forward as they looked up at the ceiling, "Kur it's called anguish, but it can also be mistaken as repentance or remorse for what happened."
"I'm aware of the emotions you speak of, Chuma," Kur spoke with a soft tone, "the lingering pain that swells in my core is what I experience many times over... Some play it off as a joke, some of them take it to heart and change their ways to cope with their pain. But could I ever cope with such pain? Everyone back then was very close like what you could call a family. I wasn't able to fend anyone off... I wasn't able to stop the events that happened to my family... Am I someone that was too weak to even fight?"
"Kur," Chuma started as Kur faced him, "you are nothing like that... It was out of your control like everyone said... Do you believe that everyone that you miss would want you to feel so belittling of yourself?" Chuma watched as Kur tensed as their eyes widened. Chuma knew he had hit something that made Kur think about their words. "Look I don't want to be painted as the blunt donkey but they would've wanted you to be happy and heal through the hardships that were forced upon you. If they were anything like Burakku I know they would be very worried and sad that you felt like this could've been prevented even with the warning... The scumbags that did this knew how to operate... Though ironically cartoon villain style but they knew where to strike you the most... They knew your devil, Burakku, was the caring type and used that to their advantage as he took the Thunderbird back to their rightful solar system."
Chuma sighed, "I know that it stings to think about what could have been, but you have others who care right now," Kur looked down, "I know that feeling myself, I wanted to save someone but my events ended up with me in the underworld and not being able to come back as a human anymore... My battles and struggles sure had a toll and came at a price... But I used that price as a chance for knowledge and I came back to carry that knowledge and help others... You can do the same Kur... Sure you don't have to fight reapers and the unknowns of the underworld but you have a price to even out with Aku-Umi, right?"
Kur looked up as a sad smile spread amongst their lips. "I suppose that can be the cause of my dilemma... But it still hurts," Kur said as they straightened their stance.
"It's going to hurt Kur," Chuma spoke more softly, "that's the most crucial part of healing but I'm sure everyone around you will fill that pain with joy... Just give it time and it'll appear to you that way... Now let's go see where Burakku had run off too... I have a few questions that I would like to ask him."
~~~~Le Time Skip~~~~
The ship had settled against the dock leading into the catacombs. "Welcome to the neamhaithnid cheilteacha(*) catacombs where knowledge is always growing every minute," Burakku spoke loudly as he walked forward. Kur sighed and shook their head as Burakku continued with his monologue with the explanation of what the catacombs held and how to find certain genres. As they walked further into the library.
"Greetings, welcome to the library," the feminine spoke from behind Kur and Chuma, "I am Eona, the witch of simple crafts, I am one of many caretakers for this library. Here everyone has free access to this library. Standard checkout procedures are 2 books but further into proper respect will earn more leverage of checking out more than 2 books. Here are your library cards," Eona handed them their cards with their name written in 2nd generation Celtic, "just a friendly reminder that if you do lose or damage your library card it can only be replaced 2 times every 500 years. So please do take care of your library cards. The rules of the library are simple and common-sense rules. Enjoy!" She bowed before backing away.
Kur and Chuma looked at the backing away witch before looking at each other, "well, that was something," Chuma noted as he looked down at his library card, "the longest time you can check out a book is nearly 50 years in the Celestial time zone... Well, I can keep up with that..." Chuma trailed off reading more to what was on the library card.
"So you met Eona," Emerald voice spoke from beside them as they looked over to see her holding about five books in her arms, "she was a mortal from a mortal realm who figured out a spell that was hard to perform for her mortal years and species within a record time and was given an offer here at the catacombs to continue to make history and such," Emerald walked over to a table and set the books down, "here are the books that are the nearest to what you said beforehand... I hope these books have the answers you are looking for," Emerald gave a sad smile, "I will be over by the catalogs looking at job openings and/or free journalist openings." She waved before walking away.
"Poor thing," Kur sighed as they sat down and opened one of the books on the pile, "why must she have lost her job when she did not feel safe doing what was practically demanded that it had to be done. Is it like that to all outside of Makai?" Kur asked as they watched as Chuma sat down as he also picked up a book.
"Some places are Kur," Chuma said with a sigh at the end, "some treat others disrespectfully with thoughts of higher egos than others... It's uncommon nowadays for equal and neutral respect for each other. It's common nowadays that many treat others like the dirt under their feet rather than giving general and neutral respect."
"How heartless and cruel others are," Kur mumbled under their breath as Chuma nodded his head, "will that eventually happen to me, Chuma?" Chuma looked up a bit shocked at the sudden question. "Will one day someone will look down at me like the soil underneath their feet and say such horrible words that I will become filled with wrath and wish nothing but harm on them? Or will they be treated in a way that would be cruel?"
"Kur..." Chuma was shocked and lost for words as Kur had merely bluntly stated their status right out, "I believe your statement might be your situation, Kur. I mean that you are out here because of what others did to you without a reason other than you existed. Admittedly it's not out of wrath but more of closure, for you that is... You came out here to settle the score for the closure of the loss of your star and everyone that lost their lives because of one's selfish desires and causing a problem that there was no indication that you had anything to do with them... Only that you were the oldest star and that you were the only masculine-based one. But by all standards you did nothing wrong and they just provoked you to finally get closure to what happened to you," Chuma turned the page of the book as he looked up, "do you think that you are acting in wrath?"
Kur shook their head as Chuma nodded his head, "see what I am saying... you are nothing like those who look down on others," Chuma sighed before turning the page, "in actuality you look up to others while being a Celestial you were patient and friendly and kind to a species made out of the purely opposite energy force you are made out of... you took time and energy to learn not to harm them and even befriended to them to the point of if anything happens they'll have your back just like they trust that you will have theirs... The point is Kur, I will never see you be cruel or wanting to harm others." Chuma looked up from the book as Kur did the same, "With who you are as a being... you are true to your feelings and an honest and respectable Celestial being much to the stereotypes many are taught at such a young age... one's opinion is merely a speck of sand on a beach... sure there are many bad thoughts about you but the good ones outweigh the bad ones..." Kur gave a soft smile as they set the book down.
"Thank you, Chuma," Kur spoke with a soft tone, "I understand your words and I appreciate your kind words... It is reassuring that my thoughts are nothing but the overthinking of the stress that I am experiencing for the first time after the loss of my star. I appreciate the condolences that many have given me. My core glows even brighter with everyone's support." Chuma raised an eyebrow at Kur's choice of words. Meaning that Kur used the term of the core instead of the heart and that the glow is representing the warmth that Kur feels. Chuma gave a light smile before looking back down to his book and flipping the page.
Nearly half an hour has passed, as the library was quiet as the standard typical atmosphere is supposed to be. Well, it wasn't long after where the sounds of brick walls with the clatter of against leather book coverings fell down. The burning smell of burning wood and clay made Kur and Chuma stand up in a startle. "Where is that smell coming from?" Chuma asked as he frantically looked around grabbing his mask from his bag. As Kur looked around frantically as well trying to locate the smell. Soon there was shouting from the far side of the library.
"Over there," Kur pointed, seeing the smoke rise from the other side, "there's some sort of commotion happening over there. Something happened," Kur said before they ran to the edge of the balcony that they were sitting by as Kur narrowed their eyes, "the far end wall has crumbled due to something destroying it," Kur looked back at Chuma, "the staff and Burakku are already over there handling the situation... but something is off..." Kur turned back scanning the area before gasping, lunging over the railing, and falling down to the bottom floor.
"KUR!" Chuma yelled after Kur as they jumped over the railing as he ran over to see Kur land, "don't do that.... that's very reckless of you," Chuma scolded Kur but Kur was not listening as they started to run towards the commotion. "KUR!" Chuma shouted with worry as he watched Kur take off into the midst of the commotion. Chuma grunted as he secured his mask and ran towards the stairs leading down to the first floor. Reaching the bottom step he happens to bump into one of the staff. Muttering a quick apology before he looked up to see that it was the witch it was before, Eona, "wait what's happening?"
"There was an explosion near the catalogs," Chuma's eyes widened as that was where the Lumerian, Emerald had headed, "there was screaming before Devil Burakku came and told us, staff, to run to safety and his crew is handling the damage control... but there was someone there before the explosion... but when we tried to do damage control we could not find them." Eona could not say anymore before Chuma ran off at the fastest pace he could run. His one good eye wide as he knew what Kur was thinking. Emerald was the closest to the danger. That was what triggered the response of Kur saying that something was off.
Avoiding crashing into the other staff and surveying any that might've been injured. Thankfully nothing too serious or dire. When climbing the little rubble Chuma can see the scene laid out in front of him. The catalogs of the library are destroyed and a hole in the wall is bigger than an asteroid with Burakku holding his side gritting his teeth as Kur stood at the edge of the hole leading to the outside yelling. And just like that, Emerald was in the enemy's clutches.....
