A Scar That Will Never Fade
"Kur. Is that truly you?" the voice asked as Kur froze in place. They recognized that voice... Lenix..... Kur turned to face someone from their past... Kur's eyes widened in pure shock and surprise. But then why was Lenix all the way out here. Then it clicked to Kur... Lenix came out here to deliver a prophecy. The solemn look on Lenix's face said it all to Kur. Before Kur could open their mouth to speak, "it is going to happen again... but I am afraid that Akumu no-Kage may not be as lucky as you managed to be..."
"Did you know?" Kur asked as Lenix frowned.
"That you were still alive," Lenix finished the question, "no, I didn't, I merely only had an invision of seeing you once more. But you had drastically changed in appearance. Burakku was a mess after that fateful day we merely arrived at the patrol ship to see it in ruins... by the time we turned around everything was gone... Burakku that day swore to hunt them down... He only visits once in and while... He hasn't visited in quite some time..." Lenix looked up at Kur, "do you want me to inform him when I see him again that you are still alive?"
Kur stood still, frozen as they knew that their Devil, Burakku must've taken it to heart when everything happened. "Kur are you alright?" Chuma's voice snapped them out of their thoughts before Chuma came closer and looked over at Lenix. "Who are you and how do you know Kur?"
Lenix gave a slightly confused look before adjusting his posture before bending at the waist, "I am Lenix, I am the Celestial deity known as the Thunderbird... I am the bringer of warnings and prophecies..." Lenix stood back up and gave a quick look over at Chuma and gave a small smile, "A Lich, I haven't seen much of your kind nowadays... then again I haven't been in the mortal realm in quite some time... It's very rare to see one here in the Celestial terrain." Chuma tensed a bit but relaxed some as Lenix spoke.
"So how do you know Kur?" Chuma asked still uneased by how Lenix was so casually talking to Kur. Then Chuma remembered how on one of many occasions the topic of Kur's past came up at the clinic and Kur told Chuma about the prophecy that was given and how it went downhill unlike what was planned. Then thought back to what Lenix had introduced himself as, "you were the Thunderbird that brought Kur and their star's prophecy." Lenix nodded solemnly.
"Yes unfortunately I was already too late," Lenix sighed, "sure I was able to tell what I saw but it was too late as the corrupted Celestial was already in the solar system... turns out they were waiting for Burakku to leave... They are fearful of a true Wendigo and it turns out they have a mock version of the Wendigo..... It wouldn't stand a chance against a real one... I need to return to my quarters in the northern lights. I will be there if you need anything... you are always welcome in my home, I bid you all a safe journey and farewell for now." Lenix slightly bowed before turning entering on the train as the train began to move around and began moving down the tracks.
"Kur?" Chuma asked as Kur looked at him, "I say we stay and wait for them... I need to see these corrupted Celestials myself. If they are what both you and Lenix described, we need some allies even if we have to hunt down your old Devil, Burakku. If they have a mockery of the real thing then in no doubt your old Devil is overpowering over the mockery." Kur nodded their head and looked at Emerald who was shivering. "Emerald, What's wrong? Are you cold?"
"Y-You want to encounter them?!" She sort of raised her voice, "They have been terrorizing everyone from one solar system to another but yet you want to meet them?!" She seemed scared, terror was shown in her peridot eyes.
"They have to be stopped somehow," Kur spoke, spooking both Emerald and Chuma. Kur's voice took a darker and more strained tone which none of them have heard before. "They have caused enough harm and death... I will not allow it to happen again, not while I am around... you can head to the next city and wait for us there as it may be too dangerous for your youth to be caught up in an affair that personally involves me."
Emerald seemed to hesitate but frowned, "there's a town not far from here. I will wait there as there is a friend there... do whatever you have to, I guess." She showed body language that Chuma knew very well.
"I promise if the situation becomes life-threatening we will retreat... I just want to see the type of foe we might face," Chuma spoke evenly, "I promise on my honor as a scholar and a lich we will tread carefully." Emerald seemed hesitant before sighing.
"Very well then there's another train station not far from here that usually doesn't take tickets which all they ask is for your destination and they normally just bring you to your destination... I'll be waiting in Dawnshades village for the both of you, bye," Emerald said quickly before running up the path towards the next train station.
"She seemed frightened at the thought of running into a corrupted Celestial," Chuma frowned as he looked to Kur, "does it have to do with how certain corrupted Celestials act?"
"It's a curse to be seen near one as it warrants your immediate demise in the majority of the encounters," Kur looked away, "or you end up severely scarred for the rest of your existence wishing that you met your demise that encounter... But in very rare cases one will give chase after a corrupted Celestial to put an end to their reins of terror." Chuma gave a shocked expression as he watched Kur head towards the direction Lenix had just came from, "I was one of those rare occasions and I'll be damned if I do not attempt at settling the scores and it'll forever haunt me if I don't try to save others from the side effects of these Corrupted Celestials."
"Its admirable that you feel responsible Kur but what if they have the upper hand?" Chuma followed Kur managing to come up to Kur's pace and walk beside them, "not only that, Lenix did state that it's not going to turn out the way it did for you... whatever that hinted but we do need to think logical and come up with several different plans in case the scenario's change... a number of scenarios can and might happen." Kur stopped looking down as Chuma took this chance to get in front of Kur and face them, "I know this is a very sensitive vendetta but you have to think wisely... if you get hurt or even end up dead how do you think it'll affect others, everyone back in Makai or even.... how would Velacera feel about those inquiries?"
Kur felt the sharp pain shoot through them. Chuma had hit home mentioning Velacera. Kur didn't know why but it could be the bond that they created with Velacera could be the cause of the sudden sharp pain, "so what do you have in mind, Chuma?" Chuma seemed to have a releaved smile on his face.
"Well for starts we need to think of what they are after," Chuma noted before reaching into his bag pulling out a journal and opening it to a blank page, "from what you and Lenix discussed they are looking in on destroying individualized Celestial Stars that may have the power to fully stop them in their path to ultimate power. Which is very cliche if you ask me? Very classic and boring if I think about it but still regardless it can be very complex to plan the outcomes. As the enemy may have something we don't have but we can cross out anything that we both have and go from there, we want to be in advance rather than behind but in order to do that we have to observe and make reasonable actions."
Chuma was writing in the journal before stopping and tapping the utensil on the hard leather of the journal, "What can we pull from Lenix's words and what I have stated in previous interactions about this subject?" Kur asked as Chuma looked back at Kur.
"For one, they are cowards," Chuma huffed as he wrote more in the journal, "they go after the weak first and attack when they know others are at their weakest... most likely using shadows or others as a decoy while they stay in the background letting others do their work and them not getting their hands dirty. If using others for their own gain means they must be at their weakest and most likely has the idea of more shadows the better intimidations than actual power... unless this star has something that they need in order to get stronger? This might become dangerous if that is the outcome that they are here for as anyone will become drastic in being able to reach their ambitions."
"So are you implying that we stay out of sight of the enemy until we know what they are after?" Kur asked as Chuma closed the journal, placing it back in his bag.
"Not entirely just enough for them not to suspect us of being able to gather the information before taking any actions... I am just hoping it's nothing too drastic like how Emerald and Lenix had displayed within their body language earlier," Chuma frowned remarking what he observed earlier, "if their reactions depicts what the corrupted Celestials are like then we may have to hunt down your formal Devil to be able to have the upper hand."
They continued down the path towards where Lenix had just came from...
