BEING 'MOVED' BY THE SPIRIT, BEING 'FILLED' WITH THE SPIRIT
1. The "shy" member of the Trinity, as Frank Macchia stated, because unlikely on what is common to the charasmatics and some evangelicals today is the overemphasis of the Holy Spirit's gifting at all. But the Bible tells us that the Spirit will not exalt Himself for 'He will not speak on His own authority' (John 16:13), but rather exalt Christ, speak about Christ, testify about Christ and point people to Christ. For the Spirit, "will glorify Me (Christ)" (John 16:14).
2. So, if the Spirit will not speak of Himself and will not exalt Himself or his gifting as the Scriptures to tells us, but rather glorify Christ for the glory of the Father, what do it means of being 'filled with the Spirit'? Does it mean that if we are filled with the Spirit, we will bark like a dog, or roll on the ground or being in temporary 'coma' on the floor?
Pastor Dan Phillips commented on what is a true spirit-filled person:
"Show me a person obsessed with the Holy Spirit and His gifts(real or imagined) and I will show you a person not filled with the Holy Spirit.
Show me a person focused on the person and work of Jesus Christ – never tiring of learning about Him, thinking about Him, boasting of Him, speaking about Him and for Him, thrilled and entranced with His perfections and beauty, finding ways to serve and exalt Him, tirelessly exploring ways to spend and be spent for Him, growing in character to be more and more like Him – and I will show you a person who is filled with the Holy Spirit.
We should learn what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit. We should seek to live lives full of the biblically defined ministry of the Holy Spirit.
But we should never lose sight of this: To the degree that we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we will be targeted on, focused on, the person of the Lord Jesus Christ."
Dr. Macarthur adds unto this, "When spiritual gifts, miraculous power, or promises of health and wealth are put front and center, the focus is directed away from Jesus Christ. That kind of diversion is not the Holy Spirit's doing."
3. The Holy Spirit regenerates sinful men (Titus 3:4-7, John 3:1-8, 1 Peter 1:3) to respond into the divine stimuli, and for these sinful men repent and believe the Gospel. Men should have given life through regeneration, to respond prior to repentance. He will also convict the world in sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8-11) through the faithful preaching of the gospel. So those so-called prosperity gospel 'preachers' who told on one of the interviews in Trinity Broadcasting Network that they do not teach about sin, and I can stand and tell them that they has nothing to do with the ministry of the our Lord and the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with them. The Holy Spirit also brings people to repentance and He points people not to Himself but to Christ, as they were convicted through the proclamation of the true gospel (Acts 11:15-18). The Holy Spirit "is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory". The Holy Spirit seals our eternal security and our eternal salvation. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
