A Day to Remember
Prussia's hands shook slightly as he and Hungary walked along the beach together, the weight of the small box in his pocket making his anxiousness grow even more. The cool, evening sea breeze ruffled around them, shifting their clothes slightly and pushing the salty scent of the water into their nostrils. The water was a purple-orange color from the sunlight that danced across the water, causing it to sparkle. The nervous albino tried to calm himself down, closing his crimson eyes briefly before returning his gaze back to his girlfriend of two years. Prussia's heart leaped into his throat as he once again marveled at how beautiful Hungary looked. She wore a simple , long-sleeved white dress that reached down to her feet, brushing against the sand and flowing as she walked. Her hair spilled down her shoulders in brown ringlets, the soft sunlight making them appear a dark gold. Her face had no makeup, and honestly, she didn't need it. A soft smile formed on his lips, but it quickly disappeared.
"Prussia, are you alright?" Hungary asked, cocking her head slightly as she met his gaze. Prussia's face turned bright red as he realized he'd been staring and he looked away quickly. " *J-Ja, I'm alright Hungary," he muttered under his breath, shoving his hands in his pockets. It was a lie. He wasn't alright. His hands were shaking and he couldn't push away the nervous feeling welling up in his chest, making him want to just sink into the sand and disappear. But he couldn't back out now. He'd promised himself that he'd go through with this. Prussia opened his mouth to speak again when he realized Hungary had stopped and was staring out at the sea, her bare feet sinking into the wet sand.
"I love the sea...don't you? It's always so peaceful. Almost...magical..." she whispered, her eyes half-closed as she smiled, staring out across the waves that tossed themselves up, hugging the shore. Prussia smiled slightly as he gazed at Hungary lovingly. This is the perfect moment...just spit it out! Prussia thought to himself, and he took a deep breath. He opened his mouth to speak when Hungary interrupted him.
"Thank you for bringing me here. It's a perfect way to spend our anniversary, no?" she said, taking his hand in hers and intertwining their fingers. Prussia's stomach fluttered and he felt a blush rise in his cheeks, a smile slowly creeping its way onto his face. Prussia pulled Hungary closer to him and wrapped his arms around her in a loving embrace, leaning his forehead against hers and smiling more.
"*Ja, it is," he said quietly. Hungary blushed and leaned her head against his shoulder, hugging him back tightly. The nervousness that had been building up in Prussia's chest all day had dissipated almost entirely as he kissed his lover softly, his eyes closed part way. When they separated, Hungary looked up at him with her eyes shining, a smile on her lips. Do it now. It's perfect, he thought, and he took a deep breath,
"H-Hungary...th-there's something I need t-to ask you..." Prussia stammered, his voice trailing off as his anxiety began to return. He swallowd hard as she looked up at him expectantly, pulling away from the embrace and folding her arms across her chest. His hands shook violently as he drew the black velvet box from his pocket. Why was he acting like this?! The awesome Prussia never got scared! But..at the moment...he didn't feel so awesome....
"Hungary, I..." -he swallowed-"I-I've loved you for a very long time. Long before we even got together two years ago. Since we were kids. When...when you married Austria, I felt like my world was ending...but now you're mine, just like I always dreamed. I-I want you to be with me forever," Prussia said. He got down on one knee and Hungary's hands flew to her mouth as he opened the box, revealing a simple yet elegant gold ring with three diamonds set in the center.
"Hungary, what I guess I'm saying is...will you marry me?" Prussia's voice was so soft that he barely heard it himself, and he worried that Hungary hadn't heard him. But that suspicion was dashed as tears of joy spilled down spilled down the beautiful girl's cheeks, smiling so widely it seemed like her face would burst.
"Of course I'll marry you, you ** dummkopf!" Hungary laughed. Prussia's eyes widened and he quickly got to his feet, taking her delicate hand in his and slipping the ring onto her slender finger. He felt tears of his own welling up in his crimson eyes as he met his new fiancé's loving gaze. Hungary threw her arms around his neck and pulled him in to a passionate kiss. He replied eagerly, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer to him. The kiss didn't grow heated and there wasn't a lot of action, but it was filled with love from both of the two partners. They finally pulled away, gasping for breath and smiling at each other.
"***Ich liebe dich Ungarn," Prussia said, a grin on his face. Hungary giggled slightly as he said her name in his native language, her love for him growing to the point of overflowing.
"****Én is szeretlek , Poroszországban," she said softly. The couple kissed again, the last rays of sunlight casting their shadows across the damp sand, the sound of the crashing waves echoing in their ears. And everything was perfect.
