How You Met Steve Rogers (Preferences #1)

You were so excited. One of the smaller movie theaters in your area was showing an oldies marathon! You couldn't afford to go to the movies everyday for a week straight, so you had to choose two that you felt that you couldn't miss. On Tuesday, you planned to go and see 'The Wizard of Oz'. It was one of your favorite classic movies. On Saturday, you were going to see 'Meet Me in St. Louis'.

Tuesday finally arrived. You got there a few minutes late, but figured that it didn't matter too much because there were always so many commercials before the movie actually started. No big deal. You purchased your concessions and entered the theater.

It was packed.

Apparently, you weren't the only one who was hyped to see this on the big screen. Even the neck-breaker seats were filled up! Your eyes scanned the auditorium and spotted two empty seats. One was at the very top and in the center of the row of seats. The other was on the end of one of the middle rows. You went for the latter.

"Excuse me," you asked the man who occupied the seat beside the one you wanted, "Is anyone sitting here?"

"No, ma'am," he replied.

"May I-" You started.

"Of course." He said, before you even finished asking. He shifted in his chair to let you have the armrest.

"Thanks." As awkward as it was to be sitting next to a stranger - a very handsome one at that - you refused to miss this movie.

There was something different about being able to watch a film, that had been released long before you were born, on the big screen. It gave you a warm feeling. It wasn't nostalgia, obviously, because you hadn't seen it the first time it was in the theaters. It was just so cool.

The ending credits began to roll, and, as you began to gather up your things, you heard the man next to you whispering harshly with the guy beside him - obviously his friend.

You hoped that they weren't judging you or something. "Thanks for letting me sit here," you said.

"No problem," he replied. You turned around to leave, but stopped when he said, "Wait, I... I, uh..."

His friend face-palmed behind him.

"I'm Steve." He offered his hand.

"(Y/N)," you said, shaking it.

"Are you coming back here at all this week?"

That was a bit straightforward, but he seemed harmless enough. "Maybe. Why?"

"We're coming back to see 'Meet Me in St. Louis' on Saturday. I haven't seen it, and Sam insists that it's even better than this. We'd be willing to save you a seat... If you want. I mean, you don't have to..." He rambled on.

"Sure."

He looked up. "Really?"

"Yeah, I was planning to anyways."

He looked back at Sam, who grinned. It was pretty obvious that Steve hadn't been expecting you to agree to it.

"I'll make a deal with you. If you get here first, then you save me a seat. If I get here first, I'll be sure to save two seats for you."

"Deal." He shook your hand. "I'll see you on Saturday, then."

"See you Saturday." At that, you turned to exit the theater.

As you walked down the ramp, you could hear them talking to each other behind you.

"See! What did I tell you?"

You couldn't hear what Steve said, but Sam replied - rather loudly - with, "Dude, have you even seen yourself? I'm surprised there aren't chicks fawning all over you!"

"Sam!"

You snickered. You had a feeling you were going to like these guys.
