Awakening
My head is throbbing.... the light threatening my retinas only worsens it as I slowly wake up. I hear shuffling behind me.... no, in front of me? I can't tell...
Something bumps my foot as if nudging it gently. I give in and cautiously open my eyes. The light stabs my eyeballs relentlessly, but I only blink rapidly in response until the pain subsides and I win the battle. When I open my eyes, large green ones meet my gaze instantly and I can't help but crack a smile. I slowly raise my left hand and stroke the side of the Nightfury's wide head. "Hiya, Toothless," I mutter out. He lets out a delighted grumbled and presses into my hand more. The movement draws my gaze away from his, and I notice how wrapped up my arm is.
It was almost mummified. I feel my eyes widen, and this leads Toothless to release a worried whine and gain my attention once more. He sniffs me slightly and gently licks my face. I can't help but release a giggle and suddenly my worries about my wounds are gone. "Toothless... You smell like fish..." I grumble, but the smile on my face betrays my faked irritation. I try to stifle a hiss as I shift my position, but Toothless hears it and softly rumbles in worry.
"I-It's nothing, bud. Just sore...." I push myself up a bit more until I am sitting up and.... the back of my bed slowly presses against my back. I turn to the other side of my bed to spot the one and only Doctor Stephen Strange remove his finger from the button that pushes the bed up. He was facing the monitors, however, as if inspecting them. "I'd recommend the least amount of movement possible right now. You were pretty banged up when you got here." I smile at him and his eyes flicker to me for a moment, and a small smirk makes its way onto his face.
"However, I know you never listen, so I already let Fury know you are awake." I nod at him, but I feel my arms throb. "How bad was it?" I ask, and the small smile he had vanishes. "The lacerations you received were minor, but many. A few hit arteries on your arms, but Cristine and Bruce were able to patch everything..... external up."
My heart plummets.
Stephen turns to me, and I feel Toothless push his head under my arm. His warm body gives me mild comfort while I stare into the eyes of a man holding a very grave look. "Avia.... the dust and... dark energy were not the only things mixed in that swirling force Pitch used against you...." I feel my blood run cold despite Toothless' warm scales against me. I try to calm my breathing, but a cough suddenly racks my body. I sense something move inside of me, and when my eyes open, Strange is next to me and has his hand on my arm. I can feel something spilling from his palm into my body, and slowly the pain from the cough subsides.
"Strange.... you tell me what's wrong.... right. Now." I muttered, giving the doctor a cold stare when I see him start to form a protest. He sighs, but before he can speak, the door opens to my room. I turn to look, and I hear him before I spot the eye patch. "You were infected with some sort of virus that will inhibit you from... using any of the angel grace inside of you..."
I feel the coldness of fear return.
"W-What?"
Strange looks away to the monitors again, lifting his hand from my arm. Toothless rumbles in assurance, but I barely register it. "I-I can't... The grace...." I could feel my fear making my body start shaking. Without the angel grace in my body, old wounds will reform on my body from that dreadful procedure. The cuts, the slices, the shattered limbs, organs being held in place by the grace will revert to their original form.... destroyed. Another cough hits me, and I feel the warm liquid slip between my lips. I refuse to open my eyes for a moment, already knowing what it was, but when cold skin meets my face, I can't resist.
My eyes open and Jack frost is hovering above me with worry in his eyes. I smile at him, and his face brightens as a smile cracks across it as well. I hear more voices around us, and I turn my head to see that Cap and Tony were just outside the room speaking with Fury. Strange was still monitoring my vitals and Toothless was still next to the bed. Astrid and Hiccup were speaking in the doorway, quietly, and I could tell something was bothering them.
I turn back to Jack and sigh. "You've really gotten in a pickle now, haven't you?" He comments, and I scoff. "You taught me all I need to know." His smile slowly drops, and he floats to the foot of the bed. He crosses his arms, then looks away. "He'll pay for this..." I see his hands start to ice a bit, and I hold back my shock. It's happened only once before, and it was when he was very, very upset.....
He froze my entire home.
Without the staff.
We haven't touched it much else, and it only happens when his anger rises, and it got out of hand only once... That scares me more than the fear of reliving the pain of those wounds. I had witnessed his 'out-burst' first hand...
Felt it as well.
I shiver at the reminder, and that sends a wave of pain through my being. I barely hold back the grunt of pain, but Jack notices my face scrunched in pain. Toothless grumbles and I just huff. I take a steady, deep breath, and force myself to sit up. Strange and Jack immediately try to stop me, and I raise my hand up blocking them. I feel the anger in me swirl, and Strange instantly stops. Even his cape seems to react to the fury that was seeping from me. I couldn't fully explain it, but I hated feeling this weak.
And Pitch was trying to make me weak again.
"Listen...."I mutter, placing my hand on the bed again. I try to subdue the anger, and it obeys, retreating back into the bottle I kept it in. "We need a plan, and I say 'we' because you are not - will not - stop me from helping." I gaze around, realizing that the 'Avenger' people had walked in and the leaders of Berk joined them. I give them a cold gaze when I can sense them trying to protest. "Look... Some of you know what I went through, only one to the full extent..." I mutter the last part when I sense someone here, but not fully here.
I continue, lowering my head a bit. "I... I saw something, during the attack, and I think I know what's really going on." I slowly slide off the bed, hissing at the cold floor against my bare feet. Toothless presses against me for support, but I don't push him away. I need his help, and I must be willing to accept it if I am to have them accept my help. Carefully, I move towards the wall and press a button. A small beep is played, and an old friend speaks over the comm.
"Hello there."
I stifle a laugh.
"General Kenobi... It's been a long time..."
