Le Story

The clock ticks slowly as my eyes watch the hands move, my foot bouncing up and down with repressed energy while my fingers dance across my desk to a tune that only I can hear. My completed Maths test lies in front of me, my sharp, neat writing covering the pages. As I start to wonder if time was frozen, the teacher passes by my desk and takes my test.

"If I have your test you may leave." The teacher says and as soon as she finishes talking, I'm out the door like a rocket, smiling to myself that I don't have to go fetch my phone since I left it in my bag outside.

I pop a piece of bubblegum in my mouth and start chewing as I heft my bag across my shoulders. I pull my ponytail out from under it, a few strands of light green sticking to the straps, causing me to wince as they come loose from my skull.

My boots pound against the floor as I run to my motorbike, the dark green paint that matches my eyes shining like a beacon. I open up the top box, put on my black leather gloves, swap my regular glasses for my prescription sunglasses, secure my helmet and dump my bag inside before closing and locking it.

I start up the engine and the bike vibrates under me, easing any remaining tension from the test I just went through. I pull out the parking lot and weave through traffic, being sure to keep well away from the kamikaze mini-buses known as taxis that would flatted me like a crepe.

As I drive, my mind goes over the test, checking if I answered anything wrong. When no alarm bells go off, I breathe a sigh of relief and glance around my surroundings. There were no other cars around me and no bystanders. I smirk as I press a button on my dashboard.

The ground in front of me grumbles before opening up to show a ramp heading deep underground. I drive down it, switching on my headlights as I do so, and the ground closes itself up right after I enter. Around me, green lights pop into existence showing that I was driving in a tunnel.

My smirk widens when I see the end of the tunnel and I accelerate, adrenaline pumping through me. My bike flies out the tunnel, landing on a cobblestone street. My next movements are purely automatic as I drive my bike to a stable and hand it over to the person in charge.

"Make sure there are no scuff marks." I say as I hand him the keys after I get all I need from the top box.

"Yes, Miss Victoria." The man says respectfully as he does a small bow to me.

"Dude, it's Tori. Victoria makes me feel like I'm old or in trouble." I say with a slight shake of my head before I wave goodbye and start walking away.

My boots are extremely loud against the stone of the street but I don't mind since the chatter of everyone around me softens their sound. My eyes dart around, drinking in what everyone decided to wear today and finding that more than a few people had changed their hair colors.

"Tori!" Someone shouts from behind me and soon a large weight is flung around my neck.

"Hey Jay." I say as I slip out from his grip.

My chest quivers for a few moments before I burst out laughing, Jay scowling when I do so. Someone had been sneaky and suicidal enough to add pink hair dye to all his hair products so now he resembles Natsu from Fairy Tail, minus the awesomeness to actually make the pink hair work.

"It's not funny." Jay snaps as he pouts, pulling his hoodie up even further in an attempt to cover his shame.

"Oh it's more than funny, it's blog worthy." I say as I take my camera out from one of my vest pockets and take a picture.

"Oh no you don't." Jay says as he tries grabbing the camera but I duck and dodge.

"Oh yes I do." I say before running off, laughing my head off.

"Tori!" Jay yells as he chases me, people swerving to get out of our way.

My eyes scan for an escape route before landing on Mike and his food cart. Today he was selling homemade ramen and chicken pasties. I speed up before jumping, my momentum carrying me over the top of the cart. The moment my feet hit the ground again I'm off running, leaving a fuming Jay to berate Mike for letting me past.

After another 5 minutes of running, I decide to slow down and look around. I somehow wound up in the art supply district. I shrug and continue walking, waving hello to everyone I meet, as I search for a present for Jay so that he'll forgive me for what I plan to do with the photos. I eventually settle on buying him a new canvas, some new sketchbooks and a giant case of pencils.

"That'll be five twenty." The salesperson says and I hand over my credit card.

"Thanks for shopping with us. Enjoy your day." The salesperson says handing me back my card.

"You too." I say with a smile as I sling the shopping bag they gave me over my shoulder.

It was times like these when I loved daemon magic. Other times, it was more of a hindrance. Such as when I tried to ask out my first IRL crush and wound up turning the entire school into a jungle with carnivorous plants. Yeah... In hindsight it probably was a bad idea to watch Little Shop of Horrors at midnight, hopped up on soda and chocolate, the night before. My bad...

I wave goodbye and start heading towards my favorite store: The Jade Lotus Tea Shop. What can I say? I love tea. I step into the steamy den and the smell of jasmine greets me. I let out a sigh of pleasure before heading to my usual table, my best friend Selena waiting there already.

"Sorry I'm late." I say as I slide into my seat,

"It's fine. You saw Jay?" Selena asks with a slightly raised eyebrow.

"Yup. I got pictures too." I say unable to keep the smirk off my face and the laugh out of my voice.

Selena shakes her head slightly at me, but her amused smile tells me that she really isn't that mad. She then goes back to working on her art project. I lean over slightly and immediately shrink back, my ego being delivered a large blow when I see the amount of detail on her self-portrait whereas I can barely draw anything more complicated than a sick figure.

Shaking off my jealousy, I take out my notebook from my top vest pocket and flip to where I left off. The sharp strokes of my pen on paper greet me and I continue writing my story. The story weaves itself in front of me and my pen captures each twist and turn, developing the characters as best to its ability.

"Pardon me. Miss? Would you like to order?" A waitress asks snapping me out of the trance I go in when I write.

"Ah, yes. I'll have an iced Matcha green tea with apple and mint." I say with a small smile.

"And I'll have just plain rooibos." Selena says barely looking up from her work.

"Alright then. Would you like to order something to eat?" The waitress asks after writing down our order.

"Two Portuguese tarts would be nice." I say as I twirl my pen in my hand.

"Okay. I'll be back in a few minutes with your order." The waitress says waving goodbye as she scurries off.

My pen starts scratching away again, this time a lot faster, crossing out a few words here and there. My head starts bobbing to an unheard beat and my feet shuffle under the table as I shift around in my seat. A sharp pain goes up my leg, stopping me in my tracks and causing my pen to fly out of my hand.

I look up from my notebook and glare at Selena. She, in turn, just gives me a blank stare before gesturing to her sketchpad. I shift my gaze to the paper and feel my face heat up. Across her well-done portrait is a long, jagged line.

"Uh... oops?" I almost ask as I try to squash the growing guilt inside of my gut.

Selena doesn't say anything and I start fidgeting from my anxiety. She eventually sighs and gets out her rubber. She looks at me for a few minutes and I can actually feel the silence carving out my insides.

"Pay for the tea and food and I'll forgive you." Selena says finally when she feels that I've suffered enough.

"Sure thing." I say with a sigh of relief as the waitress brings us our order.

"Thank you so much. If it's not too much trouble, could you please bring us the check?" I ask as Selena works on getting the jagged line off the page without ruining all her hard work.

"Of course." The waitress says with a plastered on smile before walking away.

I take a sip of my drink before going back to my story, the characters ready to beat the final bad guy. The fog that usually accompanies my writing settles over my mind and my pen struggles to keep up with the rapidness of my words. The haze only lifts when my pen finally scratches out the words: 'The End.' I shake my head to clear out the cobwebs.

"Done?" Selena asks as she packs up her stuff.

"Yup." I say as I pay the bill, plus tip, and grab my drink and tart.

"See you tomorrow?" Selena asks as I tuck my notepad and pen into a vest pocket.

"Of course." I say as I wave goodbye and head out the restaurant.

I smile as I exit, feeling as if I just had the best conversation of my life, before my smile drops as my phone starts ringing. I quickly cut off my Todrick Hall ringtone and answer, groaning inwardly when I see that it was my mom.

"Hey mom." I say expecting a telling off.

"Tori, where are you?" My mom says as I start heading home.

"The Jade Lotus. I'll be home in five minutes real time." I say as I munch on my tart.

"Okay, remember we have that dinner with the daemon council tonight." My mom says and I pick up the pace.

"Yeah I remember. See you soon." I say before hanging up and beginning to run.

I slide to a stop as I reach my house and rush inside, waving hello to my dad and brother, before entering my room. My mom shakes her head slightly at my disheveled state before helping me choose an outfit. I sigh in relief that she isn't mad. I sit on my bed as I watch my mom shake her head slightly at the state of a few of my dresses, my mind going over the events of today.

"Hey, mom. Have you ever felt like you just had the best day ever?" I ask as I sip my iced green tea.

"With you and your brother in my life, everyday is the best day ever." My mom says giving me a hug before handing me a dark green dress with gold details.

"That was so cheesy." I say with a half smile and my mom just gives me a shrug.

It's times like these that I truly do love my life. Hey maybe I should write a story about it... Nah. Who would wanna read that?
