Stars Collide

Santa Barbra, California: Earth

▫️Soren:

I let her go back to where she came from. From play practice I walk over to Copper Cove to see if I can find my new Juliet again. Sure enough I found her, pacing by the side of her car, keys fiddling in her hand.

"Why does he have to be from that school?" I hear her say. "Why couldn't he be from Santa Barbra, or LA, or Germany like some weird man?" She sighs, shaking her head as she presses her fingers against her forehead. She leans against her little car. Her eyes gaze out across the other cars, I meet eyes with her from behind another car.

"Who says someone from Germany is weird, I heard the men in Germany are quite good fighters, but those are just rumors." I call out to her, moving from my hiding place. "But it doesn't matter where I am from because fate brought me to happiness by bringing you into my life." I thought that line was pretty well done... it sounded cheesy but I was just winging everything.

"Fate brought us together." Ray smiles and stays by her car as I walk to her. "Despite our rival schools every other teen is obsessed over, surprise you haven't tried to beat me up."

"I am sure you would kick my butt," I laugh, I had made my way beside to her side. I ran my hands across her wrist till she allowed me to grasp her hands. "In a few years, nobody will care what school we attended, what outfits we wore, or who we were."

"Exactly?" Ray leaned closer to me, she accidentally drops her keys.

"Exactly." I grab her keys as they fall from her hand and I open the door to the passenger side. I stare into her eyes as I let her go in. We don't kiss. I can tell we both want to save that gift for later. We get into her car, I'm in the driver seat and Ray is beside me.

I pause for a moment, realizing I have never driven a crappy earth model car. "Ok." I look at her. "I have never driven a car before. Maybe I should switch with you." I laugh, trying not to make it obvious I wasn't from around here.

"Really?" She questions me, giving me a slight smirk on her face, which I find very cute.

"Yeah." I lick my lips out of nervousness. "Never had a family to teach me."

"Me neither." Ray grabs the keys from my hand, reaches across me, and starts the car. "That's why I taught myself, now let me teach you."

She helps in adjusting all my mirrors and getting my seat in place. From there she carefully directs me in backing out of the parking spot, then shifting into drive before leaving the parking area.

"So." Ray smiles, I try to focus as best as I can on the road. "I believe this is what normal people call a first date. Where you going to take me?"

"Oh yeah.... guess this is technically considered a date. I didn't really have anything planned, but I have an idea." I smile, turning onto a badly paved road, heading out to the country side.

I came to this a few times since I have been here to clear my mind. It was beyond gorgeous at night, the perfect spot to take someone as fair as my Juliet, Ray. We drive past trees, driving wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Ray had to correct me about a few things but besides that I was a natural. The sun was setting by the time we arrive at the destination. A patch of long tall grass, bits of flowers dotted the area. You could see everything for miles till the seashore where the sun was setting. I sat down next to her in the grass, the cold dark green blades against our legs. We spoke softly to each other as our shoulders touched, our eyes staying fixed on the sunset. I have seen this view a thousand times, but this time feels different because I was with her.

The stars slowly appear in the sky. The consolations told stories. I take her hands into mine, pulling her off the ground wth me. Her gray eyes glitter like diamond in the night sky, bringing all colors of the rainbow into them.

I put my hand on her back, and my other into her hand. She kept her eyes fixed on me. She was rather short for a girl, only five foot five, my exact height. We were perfect for each other.

I dance with her across the grass. Each step we took wakes up the fireflies and they fly around us, illuminating the surrounding darkness. Their lights reflected off her eyes.  She never spoke as we danced that night to the crickets chirping, she slowly placed her lips onto mine, moving them as quickly as they came.

She is my crush... no, she is my love. She leaves my lips. Leaving me blushing pink with the guard of my heart all knocked out.

That night, I dropped Ray off at her house. I then walk back to my mall home where Vestry was mending the bar tables. The room was packed with people, all teenagers enjoying their Friday night dates and hang outs. Sitting across the island from my older brother were my only two sorta friends. Ames and Hudson. What on earth were they doing here?

"Dude." Ames acknowledges my presents. "You didn't tell us you had a girlfriend."

"Yeah." Hudson continues to drink his shake and mess with the strings on his green hoodie

"You didn't ask." I defend myself, rubbing the back of my neck all awkward.

"Tell us everything." Ames puts down his drink. "How did it go? What was she wearing? Did you kiss? Are you going to go on another date? Who even is this girl?"

"Ok!" I stop Ames before he could ask any more questions. "Her name is Ray Gemini. She was wearing a pink tank top and jean short that went past her knees but not to her ankles."

"Capri jeans." Ames corrects me. Why did he know that? I need to take his man card away.

"Anyways," I continue. "What she looked like? She has pale skin with blond hair and pink tips that matched her shirt. She has these gray eyes that sparkle like diamonds in a rainbow under a light."

"Grey isn't a rainbow color." Hudson comments. "You're not making any sense, are you are this girl is real? You're making her seem like an alien."

"Hudson... you never make sense, just take my word that her eyes are pretty." I tell him. "I really want to go on another date, also I'm really sure she does too."

"You two should just get married." Hudson says sarcastically.

But I don't take it as sarcasm. Marriage is the key here. We both clearly like each other and in all movies I have watched with Vestry the couples usually get married only minutes after meeting each other. Of course I would never get married right now... maybe in the future a bit. Back home on Malison they would rush into marriages a lot, they would also almost always end in divorce. I don't want that for Ray and I... maybe I should look her up and figure out what her family is like. It's not like I have a way to get back to Malison, so might as well set up my life here!

"That's a good idea." I thank them before rushing off to my room. "Night Vestry!"

Inside my room is the Net-pad that Vestry gave me. I use it to scan through information on some social media account till I can find her. Ray Gemini. In her profile picture she had purple highlights at her tips. I look into her family. I find nothing. No father to ask her hand from, no mother to design out weddings, no siblings to be friends with. It's like she doesn't belong here. Like how I don't belong here. What do I do now? Usually I would ask my older brother in a situation like this, but he... he... passed on a long time ago.

Instead I go to my second for advice, Vestry.

"You wish to marry this girl?" Vestry asks me like I was crazy.

"No! Vestry! Now now!" I quickly defend myself. "Long time later, in the future eventually. I just don't think it makes any sense... it's like she doesn't belong here on Earth, do you think she was banished here like us?"

"Are you trying to make a point?" Vestry asks. "Why don't you just ask her if she is from a different planet, see how she reacts and that will tell you your answer."

"Okay." I nod. "Can I bring her here and ask her and then she can stay the night with me?"

"Yes on the first, no on the sleeping together." Vestry says as he cleans some bowls.

"Why not?" I ask. "They do it all the time in the movies."

"Soren... look around! You are not in a movie and you are too young to sleep with a girl." Vestry states. "You can when you are older and more mature."

"I have reached full maturity Vestry!" I snap back.

"You may have had a dramatic experience brother; but I'm not about to let you throw away your life just for some random girl who is going to break your heart. That's one of the hardest things you will ever have to do Soren, grieving the lost of someone who is still alive who has broken your heart. Soren... I wish you could just lose her so you wouldn't have to feel those feelings." Vestry stops cleaning and looks down at the rag on the counter. He looks as if he is about to cry. I wonder how many times he has had his heart broken while he was trapped here on Earth all alone. I also wonder if he still isn't over that one girl who broke his heart back on Malison years ago.

"Vestry... Ray isn't like that. I love her and she loves me." I say. "I'm not gonna let my heart not love her keep me from hers that will. She is probably thinking of me right-"

"Go to sleep!" Vestry yells at me and points up to my bedroom. "She isn't thinking about you!"

I gasp, feeling tears fall into my eyes as my brother finishes yelling at me. He has never yelled at me like that before. Nobody really ever has yelled that way to me before... I look at his face, filled with anger and frustration as he points to my room.

The room goes silent and I run away before my brother can call out to me. There are tons of people in the mall, nobody notices my crying as I run away to a bench to be alone. I wipe away my tears, looking up I saw the stars above me in the glass roof windows. Those are the same stars we danced under.

Love is one thing that exists in all time and space. Every planet in every galaxy in every universe has love, love is eternal and immortal, it always has been here and always will be here. You never really know what you have until it is gone, like how every star only stays for a bit before it dies and creates new stars form in its place, to light up the sky a bit more. I stare at the sky... and look at those stars miles away. I find one small one that I recognize as my home planet, Malison, it is so far away... yet I have never felt so close to home. In the grand scheme of things, I am just a dreamer, a single star longing to be a sun, in an endless universe.
