Prologue

The black she-cat settled into her nest. Starclan, I need to speak with you!

Darkness engulfed the she-cat. She woke in a starry forest with a fragrant smell. Why am I here, alone?

Suddenly, the treetops rustled. A white and gray tom dropped from a branch.

"Cloudstar!" she meowed in surprise.

Usually, a former medicine cat spoke with her, not the clan leader. She shrugged. It must be important then.

The tom had a flicker of anxiety in his eyes, but he pushed it away. The she-cat tilted her head, she wondered what was wrong with the old Skyclan leader.

"I take it Skyclan is not doing well?" Cloudstar murmured.

"No, we are not. Lionstar has been having dreams of approaching darkness. And voices of cats that we once knew as evil, haunt both of our dreams." the black she-cat replied with sorrow in her voice.

"I was afraid of that." Cloudstar whispered. "I think I know what is going on."

The she-cat widened her eyes, "What is it? I must know!"

"Well Frostshine, the four clans dealt with it many moons ago." Cloudstar answered.

"Well?"

Cloudstar let out a shudder, "Starclan isn't the only place cats can go after they die."

A spark of realization flashed in Frostshine's eyes. She knew this place, much to her dismay. She also knew that is where a few Skyclan cats were.

"The Place of No Stars has risen." Cloudstar finished.
