The Green Petal
...Alex POV...
After the melody of the poem stopped, the petals slowly faded away. Only the green one was there, it came closer to me. It resembled a ballerina dancing. It stopped in front of my face and it transformed into a clear green light, which blinded me.
When I opened my eyes again, I just saw a land covered in sand. No green, no live just sand with no end. Although the sun was shining over me, I didn't feel it. It was neither cold nor warm, just neutral. The sand was everywhere as far as my eyes could see. I started to move, walking over the sand. It wasn't hard, I seemed as if I was floating lightly over the sand.
This little trick helped me a lot to not feel exhausted nor thirsty. Quite practical.
After some time I saw a massive structure in front of me, reflecting the light of the sun at the top. Walking closer I saw how the top was made of gold.
"A pyramid, well that tells me where I am without delay." I was completely mesmerized by this perfection. I stopped on higher ground and contemplated this marvellous beauty. It was surrounded by three other smaller pyramids and a sphinx. They were outstanding, perfectly carved. A perfection made by humans.
Although I remember seeing pyramids on pictures they were nothing compared to their former self. The stones were white as snow, their grandiosity was lost forever.
I approached them after hearing babies cry. I saw the two guards from before. They had each of them a Khopesh. Their skirt was white with a shield on their back. Each one of the guards had one of the babies. Why did they kill the mother? I couldn't get my head around it.
They began to talk to each other, but I was too distant to hear them. And even if I approached I wouldn't understand anything. I don't speak damn ancient Egyptian, what the hell am I supposed to do here? I scratched my head and looked up expecting someone to come help.
"I am here to help." This calm voice frighted me to my core.
"God, frightening me after what I went through, please don't." I turned around and saw a tall woman. Her long African hair made her face stand out. This woman wasn't only beautiful she was majestic. She was walking towards me with high confidence. Every move was graceful. Her dark eyes sparkled of the sun's reflection, they seemed as they would pull your soul into the depths.
"Do forgive, I was not intending to frighten you." Her apology although seemed genuine her face told another story.
"You speak English?" I am a bit surprised although I shouldn't, I lived quite some things this past few days.
"We speak all languages of humankind. Do not worry sweet child." Did she just call me a child?
"I will help you and also explain to you why you are here." Her voice was calming. She arrived next to me and presented herself.
"My name is Neith, I am here by the grace of the Psyche. I am the goddess of war." She gave out a large smile, full of pride in her title.
"Wait? Did you say Psyche? My mother talked about them, who are they?" Although her arrogance was annoying me, the word Psyche was more important to me than acknowledging her title.
Her eyes lost the sparkle, darkness took over her eyes. "It is disrespectful to not acknowledge my name by not giving yours and not respecting my high position." Her eyes seemed like knives that would kill me if I ever dare to disrespect her. Yet, she can't be serious that I need to acknowledge her title. War isn't good.
"Sorry, I am Alexandra. I thought you knew who I was. It is an honour to meet the goddess of War" Biting my lips, I felt awkward and faked a smile.
She smiled and her eyes regained the light which faded before. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Alexandra. I do know your name, but that is not an excuse to not present yourself properly." Every word she spoke was filled with grace. She moved like a queen. Never looking down, always into my eyes. She was full of confidence and arrogance.
"You asked about the psyche, that answer will come later. Now we need to focus on this." She pointed towards the two children. Although I wanted to force her to tell me about the Psyche, I knew that would be in vain. She doesn't seem the kind of women to take orders very well.
"Very well then, so what is so important about these two children? That I see them for the second time?" I tried to look her in the eyes but her confidence made me feel weak and stupid. I looked towards the children so she wouldn't see my lack of confidence.
Her words came out as if a chant was being sung, her hands moving slowly as she was talking "Those two children are the first two humans to have been granted our magic. Furthermore, they are also your ancestors." She didn't take her eyes off me. This made me feel nervous.
"So I'm their descendant, well never expected to be from Egypt. Maybe that is why I always liked ancient Egypt. This also explains my father's obsession with ancient history. But why do I need to know about this? They died long ago, I have enough of struggle in my time, do you believe I need to know this very interesting knowledge although without any meaning?"
Her forehead frowned, she wasn't happy with what I said. Her eyes lost that shining again, but this time for good. She just moved her hand and we appeared next to the children and the guards who had moved closer to the pyramid.
"Can you not see why this is important?" Her eyes staring at the two guards lightly clothed.
"No I can't, why is this important?" I shouldn't have said that.
Her clear eyes pierced me with hatred and it seemed she thought of me as a disgrace.
"You may be their descendant, yet you have no honour in your own family." I was speechless, who does she think she is? And what does this have to do with honour? "These people were not only the first but they surpassed most of my kind in power, they could have ruled the world and yet decided to let go of their power to protect this world. This two were more honourable than your kind ever was. Without them, you would still be slaves to my kind." Her voice changed from pride and confidence to shame.
"I see, yet I don't see how that will help me. This is the past it can't change the future."
"I still do not understand how those two humans were the only two to reach that kind of power, until now. The past is not just events that happened, it is our memory. If we let it go, we do not learn from it. It is needed to correct mistakes, it is needed to not repeat them. Look at your history, you humans repeated the same mistakes over and over again. Besides, don't you find it bizarre that no one of the human race remembers what happened with magic?"
"Now that you say, we always put magic as in mythology, so is that the real history of this world?" I was hoping to gain her approval, well that went wrong. She gave out a little loud and smiled.
"You really are naive, mythologies are just distasteful stories your kind invented, the real history is much more glorious than your pitiful attempts to describe us all." She was higher than me, she was standing as if she was a monarch, but I was tired of her mockeries about our history and me.
"Well, if humans forgot you, it means your past wasn't that glorious at all." Her facial expressions changed to rage, I felt her hand coming closer to my face. I closed my eyes ready to feel the slap, but the hand lifted my chin. I reopened my eyes and in a cold voice she just responded:
"Do not dare to tell me that your kind is more glorious than us." Her voice was not only cold but it felt like there was some hidden pain.
"If you hate us so much, why did you come?" She seemed confused about my question.
"I do not hate humans, I just believe you are too stupid to see that you are more capable than you believe, but your refusal to change will also be your doom." Tears seemed to be forming in her eyes, she saw me staring and turned towards the children, which I completely forget about, they were to quit.
"Look carefully this is a part of your story."
I looked and saw as the guards entered the pyramids. We both followed them. I couldn't believe where I was. This place is where I was before, where I was falling, but it was different this so much brighter and was sumptuous. I looked behind towards the entrance and I could see the sand. I felt bizarrely peaceful, maybe this place gives us this peacefulness?
Looking around I saw huge status around us, they were all different and the first two were the smallest two representing each a woman and a man. Further, we moved in, taller they got. The lights illuminated everything with a yellow light. The entire room was painted in colours as I saw the last time I came, but with the touch of the light, everything seemed so much more beautiful. I felt as if I was entering a palace. The floor had red stripes and at each side of the stripes, the floor had mosaics representing flowers. I followed the two guards. Neith was following me without saying anything. I felt bad to have said that to her, she seemed different as if her confidence disappeared.
"Neith, this place isn't inside the pyramid right?" She didn't even look at me but responded to me regardless.
"No, it is not. This realm is the passage between your realm and mine. Better saying it was until your kind with the rest of the magical community banished us. Her voice was collected, but it broke when she talked about the banishment.
I wanted to ask more, but suddenly, they stopped and I looked around but there was no one. They put the babies on the ground. As I looked at them, I just wanted to take them and hug them so they would feel the warmth. They started to cry, this was breaking me. I heard a cracking noise coming from under us. In an instant, the floor opened and the children fell into it.
"No! Neith stop, they will die." I went close to the open floor and tried to see them but I couldn't see, but I heard their cries in the darkness.
"Neith please save them, please they are just children." I was crying. I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Do you forget that you are their descendant? That could not have happened if they died here." I looked at her, she didn't smile nor seemed to have warmth in her voice but I knew she wanted me to calm down.
I stood up and waited until I heard another crack, there arrived ten other people. They resembled Neith, although they had a distinct appearance. All had the same majestic demeanour of themselves. Although Neith seemed like a goddess these seemed like the higher-ups.
"Alexandra, I present to you the council, the most powerful gods to have ever existed." My eyes opened wide, did she just said the council? Most powerful?
"What are they doing here?" I looked at her and she didn't even look at me. Her face was strange, it seemed full of disgust when looking at them.
One of them spoke to the guards slowly approaching them. I wasn't feeling good there was something odd about them.
"Neith what is he saying ?"
"She didn't answer just stared at them still with disgust on her face."
I looked back to the guards and I saw how with just a hand movement the guards started to scream. Their skin was getting closer to their bones, their bones seemed to crack over and over again. Their eyeballs came out of their eyeholes.
I couldn't look, I was breathing fast and without a break, I seemed to not be able to get any air. I turned around and tried to get those screams out of me, but I couldn't.
"Stop, Stoop! Please just stop. I fell to the ground crying. This is horrible. The noise stopped. I looked back, trembling of shock. Their bodies were on the floor completely unrecognizable. I saw as the killer took something in his body that came from the guards.
I turned around, I just wanted to vomit. Hearing footsteps approaching me, I tried to suppress the vomit feeling and looked back. I thought it was Neith but when I looked it was the one that killed the guards.
He was staring at me. His long platinum hair falling in front of his clear red eyes. I was paralyzed how could he see me.
He smiled at me "This is your end he stopped, before continuing with a whisper, Alexandra." I froze. I saw as Neith came close to me and made us disappear from there.
We appeared back where I was in the rose garden but there were no roses just an arid land.
I was still shaking in horror, what did just happened. Neith was next to me she seemed shocked by what just happened.
"Ho....w could he see u....s" I was stuttering.
Her response just frightened me more " He is the God of Time."
