Batgirl Next Door

It was a couple hours after Robin accidentally discovered that Kevin's father Bruce was Batman. Thankfully Bruce and Alfred were able to help Robin find his way out of the Batcave and back into Wayne Manor. The place was practically like a maze for the toon. Robin then made it back to his apartment. The day before, Robin was able to get some groceries and put them in his fridge, and he had finally installed a television in his apartment that he ordered from Acme. He parked his car and got out, wandering inside the apartments. Outside the door next to him, Barbara was there. "Oh hey Babs." Robin said in a chipper voice. "Hey Robin," replied Barbara, "how was your day?"

"Pretty good," replied Robin, "I filmed the first episode of Toon Time, and I got to meet Kevin's dad for the first time." He decided he wanted to leave out the part that he found out Kevin's dad was Batman. "I know," said Barbara, "especially the latter part. Kevin told me. Got yourself into a little bit of trouble there, didn't you?" Robin's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates and his red nose drained from color. "Whu... How do you know what's down below?" Robin asked, befuddled and at a loss for words. Barbara chuckled a little, "come on inside. I'll explain everything." Robin then followed Barbara as she opened the door to her apartment and allowed Robin to come inside. Once the two were inside, Barber shut the door behind her and said, "take a seat on my couch in the living room." Robin sat on the main couch as Barbara rolled her wheelchair to where she was facing the toon. "So you know Kevin's dad is Batman?" Robin asked for clarification. "I knew, even before I met Kevin," confirmed Barbara. "Did you work for Batman or something?"  Robin asked. "Still do." Barbara casually said, "even if I'm not Batgirl anymore."

"Hold up, you were Batgirl??" Robin asked, blinking several times. "Yep. 'Was' being the key word of course," said Barbara, "Of course, Cassandra's a good successor to the Batgirl mantle." After a while, Robin then complimented, "I'm going to be honest, I liked your black and yellow suit. I even think Batgirl is cooler than that boy wonder Robin. Your uniform's on point with Batman." Barbara smiled and said, "thanks Robin, I'm flattered. I personally think the black and yellow Batgirl suit is better than the purple one." Robin fidgeted with his ears a little and asked, "how long were you Batgirl?"

"When I was 15," replied Barbara, "and I stayed as Batgirl until I ended up in the wheelchair. But I'd rather not talk about how I ended up in the wheelchair. Not right now, anyway..." She looked down at her useless legs, trying not to think about the fateful night she was paralyzed. Oh how she wanted to share her vulnerabilities with this toon she was developing a crush on. "I understand if you feel uncomfortable talking about it," said Robin, "It's okay." He gently pat her shoulder. Babs smiled sweetly at Robin and said, "thanks Rob." She adjusted her glasses and continued, "despite the fact that I couldn't be Batgirl because I can't walk anymore, I knew I still wanted to help in the field of superheroism. So to make up for my physical disabilities and because I possess great computer skills, I decided to become a technical field advisor for heroes. As a technical field advisor and virtual hacker, I can practically be everywhere all at once. Just like an Oracle, hence my code name."

"So your code name is Oracle, a reference to the Greek mythological creature?" Robin asked. "That's right," confirmed Barbara, "I often do technical field work either here or in the Batcave down below." Robin tilted his head and asked, "is that what the elevator behind the garage is for?" Barbara giggled, "it is. Meant to be a wheelchair friendly access for someone like me." Robin placed his hand on his chin and said, "That's actually generous and smart on Bruce's end. So I guess with your computer hacking skills, you eventually found out that toons are real, right?" Barbara smirked and replied, "pretty much. I even found the Acme website. I sometimes use it to get specific products." Robin perked up and said, "oh nice! Nice to see a fellow Acme subscriber." Barbara smiled and said, "yeah I really love Looney Tunes and Animaniacs."

"Who were your favorite Looney Tunes characters growing up?" Robin asked curiously. "I would have to say Bugs and Tweety," said Barbara. Robin gave a proud smile and said, "not to brag, but Bugs Bunny was my mentor after Buster Bunny when I attended Acme Loo." Barbara gave a thumbs up and said, "Nice." Robin rubbed his arm and said, "Barbara if you want... You and Kevin are welcome to attend a filming of Toon Time next week." Barbara brightened up and said in a chipper voice, "I'd like that a lot. Would you and Kevin be willing to come over here and watch Doctor Who on Wednesdays? I know classic episodes of the show air on GPTV every Wednesday. I bring Kevin into this because he's admitted to being a big Doctor Who fan as well." Robin smiles and said, "I would be more than happy to join you on that coming Wednesday, Babs." Barbara smiled and said, "great." Robin was glad to know he had Barbara and Kevin to confide in regarding Batman.
