Chapter: One

Detective Ed Dubois discovers a news article about the 16 year old boy,"John Kershaw". The boy, who is the son of "Victor Kershaw" died on Sunday at lunchtime at Emerald Harbor. Ed Dubois accepts the case and arrives at the police station completely soaking wet with even wetter socks and cold coffee. His colleague "Mark" gives him the papers with all the information. "Sunday evening, 12 am-02:00 pm, 16 year old boy, related to Victor Kershaw, Name: Kershaw, John, Injuries: Multiple intense knife wounds". "When does Kershaw Industries receive interviews?" says Ed.

- Don't know, but I'll look it up, I'll call you if I find out something, says Mark

- Okay, I'm going to the Harbor, See ya!

- Bye...don't forget your coffee!

- I'll buy a new one one the way...

The windshield wipers sways right and left, the melody of dripping water gives Ed a feeling of when he sails with his boat across many seas and he feels the cold breeze and the warmth of the sun, he is levitating, high above the clouds and in front of him lays a enormous cup of Coff... "Back to reality, focus now, you have a case to solve" Ed thinks. His gaze meets the Chief of the department and his smile fades away when he sees Chris incomprehensible facial expression. Ed slows the car down, parks a few meters from the crime scene and steps out, but ends up in a puddle. With his soaking wet socks, he does the handshake with Chris and greets with a simple "Hey" and a smile to the rest of the investigative team. That smile once more, fades away. Dubois eyes meet the silhouette of the unjustified through the pouring rain. The victim is located in the black plastic bag on the sickbed and a weak shade of a red liquid is dripping down in a water puddle below the cart. "Bzzzz, Bzzzz", Ed pulls up his phone and presses on the green answer button.

- "Hello", Ed says.

- It's Mark, I've booked an interview with you and Kershaw at 02:30 pm, OK?! He doesn't like people coming late, the interview is about an hour.

- No problem, I'll get there in time. Thanks Mark, once again.

Ed pressed "end call" and put his phone down his pocket, "Can I examine the body?", Ed says.

- Hmm, why not, but use the rubber gloves in the bottom "shelf" of the corpse tray, Mark says.

He takes out a pair of gloves and puts one of them on gently as so not to break them. Ed can feel how the rubber pulls against his skin and creates friction, they feel very dogged and are almost impossible to put on. "Bloff", Ed yanks the end of the right glove and approaches the tray. Ed tugs away the blanket that covers the body and there he lies, John, all pale in the face without any signs of life, he is wearing a dark blue hoodie and a pair of black adidas jogging trousers. On the hoodie there is dark red/magenta like bloodstains and everything just looks like a low budget horror movie, "Who would do such a thing, against poor you", Ed thinks. There was blood everywhere, but the blood was not the main source of Eds attention, but Ed notices some kind of small object that is peaking up around the chest area that seems to be connected to a gold chain that circles around the neck. He pulls down the zipper of the hoodie, but he does not discover more blood by the knife stabs, instead he discovers a golden necklace of Buddha, he puts the chain back around the neck of the boy, where John has a peculiar scar around the neck and chin area. On his way to Kershaw's office Ed stops by Subway and takes a cup of coffee with some cream to make the perfect combination. The time is 02:25 pm and Ed is sitting outside the reception of Kershaw's Office and sipps on his fresh coffee. "Ed Dubois, Mr. Kershaw is waiting for you", the receptionist says.

- I'm on my way, by the way thanks for the coffee

- No problem, it is my pleasure

Ed pushed the door handle downwards and steps into the office, where inside behind the brown master's desk Victor sits, with his name plate. Another day, another case and another cup of coffee, Ed thought for himself.
