Jacob's POV.
A couple hours after the Carlisle left after helping me, I asked Sam to get Caitlin for me, but he just shook his head and didn't meet my eyes. I could see water gathering in his eyes as I kept telling him to get Caitlin.
"Jacob, Caitlin can't come over right now." Bella tells me softly, walking into my room with red, puffy eyes and cheeks.
"What happened? Why were you crying?" I ask her as Sam leaves.
"I... I was worried about my best friend." She smiles, and I can see it's fake. "I better go... Wendy and Erin offered to explain some things to me about themselves." She kisses my forehead.
"Dad?" I call out after hearing Bella's truck leave.
"Yes, Jacob?" He asks after wheeling into my room.
"Where's Caitlin." I demand. I was worried for her after something tackled her away from me. "I need to know she's okay."
"S-She's fine." His smile falters a little as he chokes the words out.
"Dad." I warn. He shakes his head at me before looking out of my window.
"Get some sleep. You need to heal." He tells me before wheeling out.
Where was Caitlin, and why was everyone acting weird? Why did it seem to make them flinch when I ask for her? I hope she didn't run off with that leech of hers... Did I scare her off?
"Hello, Jacob Black." A voice says from beside me. I snap my head in the direction to see a green haired woman with a small top and baggy pants, almost like a genie or something. "I have heard your worries. I have come to ask you something."
"Who are you?" I ask, sitting up carefully on the bed, cautious of the stranger.
"I am the original Legend. For generations the Legend gene has passed down through my descendants, currently it is passed down upon Caitlin and Wendy." She explains with a stoic face. "I know you are Caitlin's mate, and I am hear to answer any questions as long as you are willing to answer mine first."
"What's your question?" I ask skeptically. She chuckles a bit.
"You have been asking for Caitlin for a while. I believe you have no idea of what has happened to her as you were taken here." She says grimly.
"What happened to her? Is she okay?" I ask, sitting up more, but I feel calm wash over me. "Your an Empath?"
"Yes. Now, Caitlin had been tackled away from you, by the man who seeks revenge for what she had done before she came to your battle. He has seen what Caitlin is, and her potential. He had the delusion of her being his mate. I believe you've met? He went by Jones."
"The man who was at her house?" She nods. "He's not her mate then?"
"No. A Legend is incapable of having two mates. She imprinted on you, and you her, so that makes you mates. If she decides it, you could have a new imprint, and it's obvious she only wants what's best for you." She smiles softly. "Caitlin battled Jones after he tackled her. He pinned her down and made a new deal with her. He would kill her sister, her sister's mate, then the Cullen's, and then take Bella as her replacement as his mate. She denied, so then he ripped her heart out. Emmett tackled him off of her and wrestled him, but he was careful with her heart before Rosalie brought it back to Esme as Carlisle went to help you. Bella pleaded with Caitlin, before Caitlin went dark. When a Legend is on death's doorstep, an ancestor comes to the one they've love, and hurt, the most. And here we are."
"So, you came here for what?" I ask, clutching the sheets under me.
"My question." She states simply. "You get to make this choice, Jacob. But know this, your decision does not make it so you don't get a new imprint."
"I don't want a new imprint." I hiss at her. She smiles a bit wider. "Get on with your question. I'm tired of your procrastination."
"My question is, do you love her?" She asks.
"Of course I do." I say bewildered.
"I will assume you won't let her go." She smiles. I shake my head and she hesitates.
"I love her too much to let her go. But I will do what makes her happy." I say softly.
"I must warn you. With this, comes a... Set back in however you look at it." She warns. "From your answer, Caitlin will survive this, but something will come from this. If your love is true, you'll survive."
"Now it's my turn to ask questions?" I ask her. She nods. "Does Caitlin know what's happening?"
"No, she does not have this knowledge of the Legends. If you choose to tell her, then this knowledge will be unlocked from inside her, along with more information of the Legends, and her hidden abilities."
"Hidden abilities? Like when she burned the newborn?"
"Yes. That is her already unlocked ability from a few years after her first shift. She hid it from the Cullen's in fear of them thinking she was too dangerous I them, and she looses the family she had."
"How... How did you die?" I ask her.
"I died like in your legends." She smiles softly. "I was among those of the first shifters in Taha Aki's tribe. I was Taha Aki's eldest's wife. After my husband died, I raised our only son, and child. When my son came of age, he married a woman and had two children. A son and daughter. I died in battle against the Cold One's mate. And that caused my son and his children to go through their first shift. They helped defeat the Cold One's mate, and many more over the years."
"What is a Legend?" I ask curiously, knowing it isn't completely a wolf like us.
"A supernatural with traits similar to both Wolf and Vampire. It is hard to harm us, unless it's by a vampire that has dealt with us before. Legends can come in many forms and sizes. Some may not be of wolf heritage like Wendy and Caitlin, but like a cat, or other animals as well. Legends can sometimes look similar to the myths humans believe today." She explains a bit. "Now, I believe you need rest if you wish to visit Caitlin in a few days."
"Day. I won't stay away from her too long. I won't let her push me away for my own safety. I can handle myself. I will protect her and her family from Jones." I growl. She chuckles.
"There is no need for that, young Alpha. Jones was defeated by the Cullen's who acted out due to Caitlin's downfall. They feared her by her ability, but snapped from it when Jones attacked and threatened their family." She smiles softly before taking a necklace from this air. "I'd like you to keep this. You will meet someone extraordinary very soon, you'll know them when you see them. Give this to them. They will understand when they come of age."
"What is their name? When will I meet them?" I ask, examining the small locket. It didn't open, like it was glued shut. "Huh?" I look up to see the woman was gone. No trace of her being her besides the locket. It was small, looked almost like a book with a wolf glued to the front of it. It also had a small gem glued to it. It looked like the birth stone of November.
I place the locket on the bedside table before laying down to sleep for the night. Thoughts kept rolling around my head. First I find out Caitlin has a vampire mate, then I go to battle with newborn vampires, then I find out Bella is marrying Edward, which I didn't want to lose my best friend. Then Caitlin comes in after I save Leah, and she kills the newborn that crushed me, then she gets tackled before the pack takes me away. Now I just finished a visit with her ancestor, who gave me a locket to give someone I haven't met yet. Finally, sleep finds it's way to me and I stay in bed for the whole night.
TIMESKIP.
I wake around noon, and see the locket where I left it. I move around carefully before realizing I feel no more pain. I feel like I'm all healed up again. I smile before changing, grabbing the locket and placing it in my pocket, and heading to the kitchen.
"Jacob! You should be resting!" Dad scolds from his spot in his wheelchair at the table.
"Dad, I'm all healed up." I tell him, getting myself a cup of water and some lunch.
"Impossible. You can't heal over night from something like that! It should have taken a day or two longer." He says shocked.
"I was visited by an old Legend. She... Explained to me more about what Caitlin is. She must have healed me somehow..." I sigh. "I'm going to the Cullen's later."
"The Cullen's? Whatever for?" He asks, shocked and nervous.
"The Legend from last night, she told me what happened to Caitlin. I have to be there for Caitlin." I tell him as I grab my keys.
"Jacob... Carlisle called a few minutes before you came out... He said that Wendy tried her best, but that hasn't ever happened before, she didn't know what to do. Caitlin's in a coma as of now..."
"Then I'll stay with her till she wakes up. I won't leave her, Dad." I shrug, putting my shoes on before heading out and into my truck before heading to the Cullen's house in Forks.
"What is the Mutt doing here?" Rosalie hisses as she flashes outside as I get out of my truck. Jasper, Emmett and Erin arrive next to her, all in a protective stance.
"I came to see Caitlin." I say calmly, shutting my door.
"She isn't ready to see you." Emmett shrugs as Jasper narrows his eyes and Erin stiffens.
"Wendy says to let him pass." Erin says softly, standing straight and the rest follow, Rosalie and Jasper hesitantly.
"Thank you." I tell Wendy after they lead me into the room she sits in beside Caitlin, who lays on a mattress, looking like she's in a deep sleep, with paler skin than before. "How is she?"
"I tried my best to restore her heart... This has never happened before... At least not in my experience." She mumbles as she continues to hold her sister's frail, pale hand. "Her heart... It's different to what normal Legends' hearts should be. Humans are red, like many creatures... But like Jones said, mine is gold... Like the rest of our kind..."
"What makes Caitlin different?" I ask, taking the seat on Caitlin's other side and moving hair from her pale face.
"She... She was on the run many years after her shift... This caused her to let her thoughts consume her... She blamed herself for our brothers death, when it was only and accident... Did she tell you?" Wendy looks at me.
"Only that she was out of control, and almost stroke you, but your twin pushed you out of the way, taking the hit..." I say softly, looking into Wendy's eyes, that look different from Erin's and Caitlin's. "Why are your eyes different from hers and Erin's?"
"My eyes are like the Legends' before us. Erin is... A half long in a way. I turned him, so he isn't a full Legend. Mostly like a Vampire, with hints of werewolf. Mostly the werewolf heat. He appears more human than vampire in those ways. Like I said, Caitlin is different. Her eyes... They take the essence of fire in a way... That's her ability. But I'm sure you've witnessed her silvery-grey ones before."
"Yes... When we imprinted she became... Both sad and angered by it. She kept saying I didn't deserve her, that she's done wrong that should forbid her from the happiness of a mate..." I say as I stroke my thumb over Caitlin's hand. "So, is that an effect of her thoughts while she ran?"
"Like I said, she blamed herself for his death. She began to despise both the Legend and herself. This hate, it may have possibly caused her eyes to change to the firey-red and the silvery-grey, along with causing he heart to become a silver color. I don't know if this is correct, maybe Caitlin doesn't know either..."
"Do you know... Of any 'side effects' happened after you placed the heart back?" I ask, remembering the green haired woman's words.
"Listen..." She whispers. I listen closely, hearing the sound of the Cullen's downstairs, distracting themselves. I also hear heartbeats. Bella's, who chats with Alice downstairs, Erin's outside with Emmet, Wendy's across from me, and Caitlin's... But it seems to... Display another.
"Is that a... Fifth heartbeat?" I ask, opening my eyes to see Wendy nodding slowly. I gulp. "Is she...?"
"I don't know for certain. It could be a side effect from when Jones ripped her heart out, maybe it's just become faster to help heal her." She explains. "It's faint, so let's not tell the others just yet."
"Right." I nod before there's a knock on the door. It opens to reveal Bella.
"Wen? Erin says we should go now." Bella says softly. I raise an eyebrow.
"Erin and I decided to take Bella on a small vacation. Like a... Family one. We wanted to bind with her since she's so much like our daughter, almost an exact replica..." Wendy says, watching Bella lovingly. "We plan on taking Charlie and Renee's place as her parents if she allows it. We would be her... Vampire parents if you will."
"They are like second parents to me. It helps that I am actually related to them too." Bella smiles slightly. I nod.
They leave the room after both kissing Caitlin's forehead. I hear them drive off and all of the Cullen's leave to go hunting, leaving me with my comatosed imprint. I close my eyes and listen to the odd heartbeat that comes from her. I smile as different scenarios pass through my mind, most of which are of the side effect the woman spoke of, being a small bundle of life...
