Part 9
Virgil brushed his fingers over the white walls of the room, his fingers feeling over each small crack or indent. He frowned softly, looking around the large room. It felt empty, lonely. He wiped at his eyes, missing Janus already. He shook his head, figuring that he should just go looking for his brother. Plus he didn't know when dinner was, he didn't want to get in trouble. He pushed open his door, looking around outside of it. He breathed a sigh of relief, walking into the hall and closing the door just a little, not fully. He walked down the halls, taking what were hopefully the same turns as he had earlier that day. The halls were silent.
"Boo" Virgil yelped, his wings coming out and hiding him as he fell. Loud laughter filled his ears, and he looked up slowly. "Oh that was too good!" They laughed. Virgil tensed lightly, standing back up.
"W-where is Janus' room..." Virgil mumbled. The other shook his head.
"Ask Patton" they said, waving him off. Virgil almost whined.
"Do you know where dinner is then..." Virgil whispered with confusion. They rolled their eyes.
"Didn't you pay attention? Patton showed you all around." They huffed angrily. Virgil stepped back.
"I'm sorry, I'll leave you alone" They laughed again.
"Oh shut it anxiety! Here, take the next two left turns, the a right, go straight for two halls and you'll find your way to the living room and dining room." They said, waving Virgil off. They walked off after that.
Virgil sighed as he found the dining room. He found Janus already there, picking at his nails.
"Hey.." Virgil muttered, sitting next to Janus. Janus looked up quickly.
"V" he whispered, hugging Virgil tightly and climbing onto his lap. "I'm scared... they'll know soon" He whispered. Virgil nodded softly.
"Quick! Ma! Grab the buckets! We have to get going! Where's Janus!" Virgil yelled, watching as the fire grew.
Virgil blinked, looking down at Janus, holding him tighter. 'What was that?' He thought, narrowing his eyes. He looked at Janus. Seeing him covered in soot. He brushed his fingers over it, watching as all the soot disappear. He shook his head, his fingers running over the scars that covered Janus' face. He wasn't dumb, everyone had a look of disgust or sympathy when they looked at Janus. Nobody had ever mentioned a thing though. He was thankful for that. He shifted his long sleeved shirt a little, knowing his own scars would show if he didn't wear the long sleeves. He didn't remember what they were even from. He held Janus close.
"Oh look who decided to join us for dinner! I did say five.. Virgil" Patton said sickeningly sweet. Virgil nodded.
"I couldn't find my way" Patton scoffed, waving him off.
"Don't make excuses and just sit down" Patton sighed, grabbing the food for the three and setting it down. Virgil noticed how small the portion sizes were for him and Janus compared to Pattons, he frowned lightly at that fact. He shook it off, giving his piece of chicken to Janus to make sure Jan had enough, turning back to his own food and taking a bite.
"Thank you for the food" Virgil muttered.
"As soon as your done we need to start your lessons" Patton grumbled lightly. Virgil shrunk back a little, nodding. "And I'll have someone show you around" Patton said, grabbing his plate and leaving the room. Virgil looked at his plate, pushing the food around. He didn't even know what half of it was, he had never had this when he was younger.
Things were just so confusing...
