Part 5

Too many nights, way too many nights that Janus didn't sleep. The poor boy was falling asleep on his feet. Virgil stared at him with worry.

"Jan.. come on... You need some sleep..." Virgil mumbled. Janus shook his head, leaning on Virgil regardless.

"C-Cant... Night... mares" Janus whispered, passing out for a moment before jolting. "No! Dont sleep" Janus whispered, whining and rubbing at his eyes. Virgil frowned.

"You can sleep Jan... I'm right here..." Virgil mumbled, picking Janus up and holding him close with his wings. "Go to sleep Janus... I'm not going anywhere" Janus nodded, nodding off a little before jolting awake again. Virgil sighed, pressing a kiss to Janus' forehead, rocking the poor boy. He hummed the song Virgil used to hear his Ma sing when Janus was just a baby. Janus yawned softly, blinking tiredly.

"M so tired.." Janus mumbled. Virgil nodded, continuing to rock him along with hum.

"It's okay..."Virgil said softly, laying the two down. Janus nodded, laying his head on Virgil, passing out into a fitful sleep. Virgil sighed in relief. Another Angel came up to him, seeing the sleeping Janus.

"You have another assignment. You need to go now" The angel explained. Virgil almost shot up.

"Are you insane?" Virgil whispered angrily, his wings fluffing up. "Janus, my little brother, hasn't slept in almost a week- and now that I've finally gotten him to- you want me to leave him when everyone knows he can't sleep without me?" The angel sighed.

"You'll need to leave him sooner or later, I hate to say it but the humans are us angels top priority" Virgil scoffed, shaking his head.

"There are other angels, including yourself that can go, I can't, nor am I, leaving Janus" Virgil growled. The angel looked at him with sympathy.

"You keep talking like that and you'll fall... your wings are already turning a dark grey..." The angel mumbled. Virgil glanced at his once pure white wings, seeing them almost a black. He bit his lip.

"I can't leave him... he's MY main priority. I'm sorry" Virgil mumbled, watching as Janus shifted, waking up and looking at Virgil before snuggling back into his chest, falling asleep again. The other angel watching in almost tears as Virgil's wing turned a full black.

"You have three minutes Virgil... it's too late... your wings are black..." The angel mumbled, they turned quickly, walking away. Virgil held Janus close, tears falling from his eyes.

"Jan..." Virgil whispered, waking Janus up. "I'm falling..." Janus shot up.

"What- what happened?" Virgil shook his head.

"Doesn't matter, it was for a good reason. I have two minutes left... I love you Jan... Casper and Nico will take amazing care of you ok? Do you remember my friend Remy? He can help you sleep with no nightmares ok? Just ask him... I love you so much Janus" Virgil whispered, choking back a sob for his brother. Janus shook his head.

"I'm coming with you" Janus whispered, hugging Virgil tightly.

"Jan-"

"I'm going with you" Janus mumbled. Virgil sniffled, nodding and holding tight to Janus as the three minutes came to an end, listening to the wind around him as he fell to earth, he knew that the two looked light a shooting star when falling, he held Virgil close, letting his wings out when he got close to the ground to make sure he didn't get hurt. Virgil let the two fall to the ground with a soft thump. And just like that... the two were fallen angels. Virgil held Janus close.

"You need to hide your wings, humans may have powers, but not wings" Virgil mumbled. Janus nodded, and Virgil watched as Janus' wings disappeared. Virgil did the same. "Welcome to earth..." Virgil muttered, letting Janus down. "We should head to a city.. find somewhere to sleep" Janus nodded, taking Virgil's hand firmly. "If anyone asks, we got kicked out from home a long time ago ok?" Janus nodded, holding tightly to Virgil. "You shouldn't of come"

"I wasn't going to leave you either..." Janus muttered. "Your my brother... I'm not losing the last of my family" Janus whispered, flinching as a bright light blinded him. He rubbed his eyes, keeping his eyes down to avoid it. "What even is that!" Virgil shrugged. "It's like the sun in a bottle... it so dark out! How..."

"Some new type of light bulb I guess, never seen one so bright before though... weird" Virgil mumbled, stopping the two.

"If someone asks about a new thing you've never heard of, just kinda.. nod and agree- go with it ok?" Janus nodded quickly. Virgil breathed a sigh of relief, dragging him towards the town once more.

"They have these... I don't know what they're called, but it's like a carriage. It takes people around or whatever." Virgil frowned. "Maybe more like a cart? Sometimes they carry things to trade with them... I don't know" Janus sighed.

"This is so stupid..." Virgil laughed lightly.

"Indeed" Virgil watched as a mans eyes flashed blue, his eyes holding confusion after a second. Virgil's eyes widened.

"Fuck- I hate those powers, Janus, keep your mind blank" Virgil mumbled. Janus went to argue, before Virgil raised a brow. Janus huffed, nodding. Virgil quickly walked the two into an alley, crossing to a new street. Virgil watched as the man follow semi after them. Virgil held in a breath, walking down another alley, crossing back to the original street. Virgil bit his lip. "What the hell does this dude want?" Virgil groaned. Virgil held Janus' mouth closed as the man walked past the two, not seeing them. "Dear god- we need to be more careful"
