Part 15

Virgil watched as Roman and Janus laughed and made bread, Virgil giving the recipe to them off the top of his head. Janus giggled at something Roman did, scrunching his nose up as he did. Virgil smiled softly, but quickly let it fall when Roman looked over.

"We need to let it rise for awhile now right?" Virgil nodded while Roman beamed. "We can play cards then!" Virgil narrowed his eyes.

"Cards...?" Roman nodded, going over and grabbing a deck of cards. Virgil had seen many men that had gambled away their lives in back alleys. He had almost been one of them... "No" Virgil snapped, shaking his head. "I refuse" Roman looked at him in confusion.

"What? Why?" Roman asked puzzled. Logan entered to room reading some book, suprised to see Virgil and Janus at the table when he looked up.

"I won't ask, however, Virgil, you seem to be the one to remember most of your twos past life, and so-" Virgil tensed, bringing Janus closer.

"Don't touch me" He hissed. Staring at the two obviously frightened. Logan raised his hands, as did Roman.

"I was simply going to ask what your last name was, to maybe see when you were alive so I can better help you" Virgil was still tense, but Janus was struggling to get away from Virgil, he wanted to play cards. Virgil let him go, but stayed far away from the other two.

"Cards is a fools game, you can lose your entire life with one hand" Virgil hissed, ignoring Logan to instead warn his brother.

"Virgil" Logan said, bringing his attention back to hun. "What's your full name?" Virgil looked to the side.

"Virgil Black" Logan looked at him.

"Is that how you say it in French?" Virgil mumbled it in French, letting Logan write it down. Logan nodded, writing it and walking away with his book.

"Now, cards" Janus said with a grin.

"No, cards is a fools game" Virgil snapped at him. Janus groaned.

"Come onnnnnn" he whined.

"How is it a fools game? I just wanted to play go fish and maybe move to something else" Roman explained. Virgil stared at him.

"What are we betting then?" He said warily. Roman chuckled.

"No no, that's poker or something like that, we aren't betting anything" Virgil nodded slowly, relaxing a bit.

"How do you okay then?"

"Oh my god! Come on!" Roman groaned two hours later. "Where are you even getting so many aces from!?" Virgil hid a laugh behind his hand, shaking his head and going out. They had moved to baja rummy, and Virgil was beating Roman every round. Janus would beat Virgil sometimes even.

"Is the bread ready?" Janus asked, looking over at it for the hundredth time. Virgil shrugged.

"Probably, let's go bake it yeah?" Janus nodded excitedly, going over to the soon to be bread. Roman smiled, going over with them, quickly getting the oven up to temperature with his fire. Virgil stepped back quickly his eyes locked on the flames from Roman. Roman seemed to come to his senses, cursing before quickly letting putting his fire out and waiting for the oven to pre heat. It beeped not long after, and he set the bread in, setting a timer. Virgil had seemed to completely forget just a few moments ago, becoming reserved and snappy again.

"When does the bread get done?" Janus asked Virgil.

"20 minutes" Virgil mumbled, holding himself close. Janus nodded.

"Ro! Can we play another round?" Roman nodded slightly, going back and shuffling the cards.

Virgil stayed by the oven, watching the bread. It was almost done. He jumped when the timer went off. Grabbing a dry cloth and getting the pan out. Cursing as it burned his fingers. Guess the cloth wasn't as thick as it should've been. He set the bread down, he hissed as they stung, shaking his hands out.

"Ow, god damn it" He looked around for water, hopefully cold water. Janus looked up from the table.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, just burnt my hand a little" Virgil mumbled.

"Ro!" Janus called. Virgil looked at him quickly.

"Janus!"

"Whaaat? He probably has stuff to help" Janus said with a cheeky grin. Virgil growled a little, looking away.

"You don't get any bread"

"V!"
