Joshua

"Louise... Louise, are you okay?" he inquired for the upteenth time, as she laid lifeless in the next cell beside theirs. Her eyes stirred aimlessly under her eyelids in response.

"I don't suppose she'll wake up any time soon. Our best bet will be in a few hours," Alexa said. Joshua nodded.

"I do suppose you're right." But instead of leaving her side of the cell, he resumed looking at her with profound sense of foreboding. Beforehand, he had assumed that she would've been able to penetrate Frenchmen's imprisonment, and yet, she was now here, stuck in one of the imprisonments. Her chestnut brown hair was now out of its usual ponytail and was strewn around her head like a fan across the floor, and her expression was impassive. His thoughts wandered to whom this "Arthur Wentworth" was. Of course, he was evidently an ally - anyone whom considered themselves an enemy of Frenchmen was an ally, but what motivation did he have? And who was this Jane Marshall? Why did Frenchmen call her Louise Marshall? It wasn't like this Jane Marshall was actually her mum. Louise would've undoubtedly revealed at least someone that, and Shijie was at her house, after all. And he didn't say anything upon this matter. All of these questions swirled in Joshua's mind aimlessly. Alexa seemed to sense his confusion and patted his back reassuringly.

"I guess everything will be revealed in due time - whenever that might be," Alexa said, gazing upon the sprawled figure. Unconsciously, Josh nodded. It was a queer affair when Louise urged them to escape. It was almost as if they were rooted to the very cement ground they were sitting on. Subsequent to that, the tenants of the cell merely stared at the quarrel unfold. Louise stirred, but resumed to remain unconscious. "Well, I'll be with Shijie if you need me," Alexa announced out of the minute-long silence, and she walked over toward the far corner where Shijie sat, kneeling down next to him. Joshua appreciated Shijie's presence. He seemed to calm Alexa in a way others couldn't. If it wasn't for Shijie, he wasn't sure if Alexa would ever find that scant part in her heart that was hidden and tucked away from the world's view, replaced by recklessness and irrational thinking. But what about me? a voice inquired in the back of his mind. It seems that everyone else gets their happily ever after, and I'm here staring at an unconscious person. Brilliant, isn't it? Josh mentally shrugged his shoulders. At that moment, it didn't matter how he felt or thought - it was a matter of escape. Though their only means of escape had been diminished, hadn't it? What now? STOP! he mentally scolded at himself. STOP GIVING UP HOPE! STOP GIVING UP FAITH! STOP GIVING UP! A new-found energy surged through him, seeming to rush through his bloodstream, pumping one hundred miles an hour, and his hearing picked up to hear the murmured whispers emanating from Alexa and Shijie. He knew it wasn't his abilities returning but the mere new-found hope, providing him with a sense of positivity. They were going to escape. One way or another. Gripping Louise's hand between the metal bars, he squeezed it tightly.

"Louise! Wake up! I know you're going to get us out of here. You may think otherwise, but realise that your capabilities span wider than your knowledge. What you think is impossible coming from you is just a doubt. What you believe is possible is faith. Embrace that faith, Louise!" Josh cried. As soon as the words left his lips, she jerked upright from her delirium, her eyes alert. Stiffly, Louise glanced at Josh.

"I will, and I will start now," she said, her eyes flashing with what seemed to be energy. Suddenly the air seemed to drop in temperature, and a strong wind pushed past him toward Louise. "And Frenchmen will feel that faith - painfully."
