Rhysand- High Lady (c)
You laid breathlessly on the bed, sweat cladding your skin as you cling to the thin sheet for dear life. Rhys grinned at you as he fell down onto the mattress at your side, wrapping an arm around your shoulders to bring you closer to him. It wasn't the first time you'd slept together but no matter how many times you did, it always felt special, especially when it had been to commemorate your marriage.
A small smile curled onto your lips as you moved your head to rest against his chest. The beating of his heart filled the silence that had filled the room.
"What are you smiling for, darling?" He chuckled tilting your chin up with his index finger.
"If I had known this was what it was like to be married to a High Lord, I would have suggested marriage a long time ago," you said, playfully poking his chest.
Although you'd been mated, Rhys had insisted on a mortal wedding to celebrate your own traditions even if you were a faery now.
"You are more than just a High Lord's wife," he stated, pressing a kiss to your lips.
You weren't certain what he meant by that. "What do you mean?"
"You shall be a High Lady," he stated as though that had been obvious.
As far as you had been aware there were no High Lady's, just wives of High Lord's without the same standing or power of their husband.
"I was unaware that was possible."
Rhys scoffed. "You are my wife and mate. You are my equal, not my subordinate. We will rule the Night Court as a partnership, your word equal to mine."
It was a daunting prospect. You had always assumed you would be left to maybe run a handful of servants in your home at most, you never imagined you'd be ruling a whole court.
"Why?"
It was a valid question to you. You had read so much of Prythian and never heard of a High Lady, even now there were only High Lords and their heirs were all male even if they had a daughter.
"You may not have any experience as a High Lady, but when I became High Lord I had no experience either. I value your opinion and thoughts, I couldn't imagine stopping you from having them and as my wife and mate, that means you share not only my heart but every part of me and my life."
Rhys held you close, rubbing gentle circles onto your bare side.
"I love you with all of my heart," you said, resting your head on his chest once again.
"I love you more."
