Chapter 4| To Regna Ferox
Y/N stared at the old woman in confusion. He wasn't sure how this old woman knew of his name. Although, he couldn't help but think if she is related to his memories. The ones he haven't remembered were very hazy, hard for him to remember it.
The old lady could see Y/N's bright blue eyes, lacking a familiar glow.
???: What is the matter? You are looking at me as though I am a stranger to you. Those eyes... They lack the light of familiarity. It is I, courageous one. Impa. Surely you must at least remember the name Impa?
That's when it clicked in Impa's mind. The old Sheikah woman had suddenly been transported here a hundred years ago, the amount of time that had passed in Hyrule. And during that time, Ganon had suddenly disappeared. Even the Champions and their Divine Beasts, as well as the majority of the Guardians had disappeared from Hyrule as well.
And here she was now, in this new world. But for Y/N to not remember her, a structure that resembled the Shrine of Resurrection must've been assembled here, and Y/N must have been resting there in a deep slumber all this time.
Impa: I see... So you have lost your memory. Well, it matters not. In fact, that may actually be a blessing in disguise for the time being. Dearest Y/N... Please come a bit closer.
Doing as he was told, Y/N walked closer to Impa. Emmeryn watched in curiosity, she herself remembering the many tales of a courageous hero being reincarnated, time after time to defeat a great evil. She heard these tales from Impa herself, but as well as reading them from history books from the time of the Hero-King Marth. But those history books have been lost, timelessly for who knows how long.
Impa: Many years ago... Yes... Many years ago since you were, the continent of Archanea had fallen to ruin, as did many of it's kingdoms. From what I could remember from the Divine Dragon, Princess Zelda's final wish was to place you in a sacred slumber. And then...all alone... Alone she went to face Ganon. Before Princess Zelda went to nobly meet her fate, the Divine Dragon had entrusted some words to me from her in order for me to say to you. I have waited for 100 years to deliver the message since I have been here. However! These words, which the princess risked her life to leave you... Well, if you are to hear them... You must be prepared to risk your life as well. The words that the princess risked her life to impart to you...I cannot pass them on to someone who lacks conviction. Are you prepared to risk your life for the greater good?
Y/N nodded. Impa could see the look of determination in his eyes. If anything, that was the only thing that remained within him. Impa smiled.
Impa: Ha! Not a memory to your name, yet you are as intent as ever to charge forward with courage and justice on your side. You have not changed one bit. Once a hero, always a hero. Very well. Since you have lost your memory, I will recount for you all that has happened...
---
The history of the royal family of Hyrule is also the history of Calamity Ganon, a primal evil that has endured over the ages.
This evil has been turned back time and time again by a warrior wielding the soul of a hero, and a princess who carries the blood of the Goddess. With the passage of time, each conflict with Ganon faded into legend.
So listen closely as I tell you this "legend" that occurred in Hyrule 10,000 years ago.
Hyrule was then blossoming as a highly advanced civilization. Even the most powerful monsters posed little threat to the denizens of the realm. The people thought it wise to utilize their technological prowess to ensure the safety of the land, should Calamity Ganon ever return.
They constructed four mechanical wonders that came to be known as the Divine Beasts. They also built a legion of autonomous weapons called Guardians. The Divine Beasts were piloted by four individuals of exceptional skill from across the land. And thus, the plan to neutralize Ganon was forged.
Upon Ganon's inevitable return to Hyrule, the princess and the hero fought alongside these four Champions against this ancient evil. The Guardians were tasked with protecting the hero as the Divine Beasts unleashed a furious attack upon their terrible foe.
And when the hero wielding the sword that seals the darkness delivered his final blow... The princess used her sacred power to seal away Calamity Ganon.
---
Impa: From what I was inferred about what happened many years ago, you all were in preparation as it foretold the arrival of Ganon, striving to follow the lead of our ancestors 10,000 years prior. But... In the end...despite your best efforts and careful planning, you underestimated his power. In order to avoid making that grave mistake again, the princess left you these words... Free the four Divine Beasts. That is what she said.
Y/N: ...The four...Divine Beasts?
Impa: The four Divine Beasts are the ancient Sheikah weapons wielded by the four Champions who Ganon defeated. The Divine Beast Vah Rudania, controlled by Daruk of the Gorons. The Divine Beast, Vah Medoh, controlled by Revali of the Rito. The Divine Beast Vah Ruta, controlled by Mipha of the Zora. And the Divine Beast Vah Naboris, controlled by Urbosa of the Gerudo. It would be extremely ill-advised to face Ganon without the power of the Divine Beasts to help you... You must infiltrate the Divine Beasts that were stolen away by Ganon many years ago and bring them back to our side. However, because we are no longer in Hyrule, you will have to seek more information upon arriving at the Beasts themselves. The Sheikah Slate will guide you on your way. You must go where it tells you and find the Divine Beasts there. No doubt, the leaders of the countries may make your task uneasy. You are Princess Zelda's only hope...and this world's hope, as well... You cannot turn back now. Follow your heart and seize your destiny!
With another nod, Y/N turned around and left the room. Emmeryn wished the Hylian a good night's rest, Y/N returning to his room in the Shepherd's barracks, the one he was assigned. Tomorrow, in the morning, Chrom and his Shepherds would set out for Regna Ferox in search for the Khans assistance for the problem of the Plegians.
Timeskip-Morning, Outskirts of Ylisse
Meeting everyone on the outskirts of Ylisse, Chrom stood in front of his Shepherds, both Y/N and Robin at the front of the group.
Chrom: Is everyone ready? We've a long march ahead.
???: W-Wait for me!
Running up to the group from the path that leads to Ylisstol is a young man in green armor and he had light brown hair. He soon comes to a stop, panting heavily.
Chrom: Stahl?
Stahl: (sigh) Why am I the last to hear about this expedition to Ferox?
Lissa: Huh? Vaike was supposed to... (looks to Vaike) Vaike! Did you forget to tell Stahl about our mission?
Vaike: The Vaike never forgets! (rubs back of head) ...I just don't always remember, is all...
Lissa: Ugh... I swear, you'd forget your own name if you weren't constantly saying it yourself! Speaking of which, are you sure you remembered your axe this time?
Vaike: Hey! That was one time! ...Okay, twice, but training sessions don't count. Anyway, I got it right here. Teach is loaded and ready for action! Glad to have you along, Stahl, ol' buddy.
Stahl: That makes one of us. I was in such a hurry, I had to miss breakfast! There were muffins, and cakes, and... Well, I can tell you all about it while we march...
Y/N had eaten breakfast before hand, but he knows you can't necessarily fight on an empty stomach. Going into his pouches, for some reason he had a large space to fit so many items despite how small the pouches looked on the outside, Y/N took out a few baked apples and walked up to Stahl, offering him a few. The light brown-haired soldier looked a bit shocked, considering the two had only just met today, but he gladly accepted them.
Stahl: Thanks, uh...what's your name?
Y/N: Y/N.
Stahl: Thanks, Y/N. I'm Stahl.
Robin: Your name is Stahl, right?
Chrom: Oh, I'm sorry, Robin, Y/N. This is Stahl, one of our finest.
Stahl: Hello, Robin, and Y/N, again. Miriel told me we had two new Shepherds.
Y/N: (confused) Miriel?
Stahl: Er, Miriel's one of our mages. She should catch up soon.
Just as they were about depart, up ahead was a small bridge with a small river. The strange creatures began to appear once again. Along with some Bokoblins, the pig-like creature readying their Boko clubs and shields, along with their Boko bows.
Chrom: Gods, have the Risen spread this far?
Robin: "Risen"?
Fredrick: We needed a new name for this new threat, so the council gave them one. And those pig-like creatures, those have appeared throughout history of Ylisse for quite some time. They are called "Bokoblins."
Chrom: Everyone, remember what we're up against!
Y/N nodded in reply. When it comes to the monsters of Hyrule, Bokoblins being an example, he had no problem in dealing with them. Those were monsters he could deal with easily. Same could be said with the new monsters, the Risen, but they resemble humans, albeit their faces weren't human at all. Either way, he would have to fight in order to push through.
Vaike: (laughs) Mya ha! They'll remember ME once I drive my axe into their... Wait... My axe. Where's my axe!? I had it a second ago!
Chrom: (sigh) Vaike, this is no time for jokes...
Vaike: I'm serious! It's gone, but I JUST had it! It's got to be around here somewhere...
Chrom: (grunts) Keep to the rear, then! The battle is nigh!
With a battle on the rise, their objective was to rout the enemy. Chrom had given them free rein, so Y/N had went on ahead. While there were a few that were concerned, Chrom being one of them despite seeing Y/N's skill about a night ago, Y/N still kept his determined look.
He jumped towards the river, taking out his Sheikah Slate as he points it towards the water. An ice rectangle seemed to have risen on top, rising a few feet upwards, giving Y/N a height advantage. Now with a sniping position, he took out his bow, taking a few arrows and aiming them at the Bokoblins and Risen that ran towards him, but they seemed to have no comprehension of trying to climb the ice block in order to get him.
Chrom and Fredrick had gone to assist the Hylian warrior, the metal clanging of the horse's armor as Fredrick trots away, thrusting his lance down at his opponents while Chrom had rushed in, hacking and slashing away at his opponent. Both Vaike and Lissa were in the back, "Teach" having misplaced his axe and the blonde cleric wasn't necessarily fit for combat. Y/N looked to Stahl and Sully, the two of them cavaliers. And like Chrom had said about Stahl being one of their finest, he was right, Stahl and Sully working together as they cut down the Risen with ease. Y/N then looked back in the direction of Ylisstol, seeing a red-haired woman with a black pointy hat, an axe at her side. He noted that this must be Miriel, the person Stahl had talked about earlier, and she must be holding Vaike's axe. Y/N reached back into his quiver that hung from his waist, feeling only two more arrows left. He would have to purchase more once they arrived in Ferox, but for now, he would have to resort to melee combat.
Jumping off the ice block, Y/N held his hands upwards, a cube object forming in his hands. Like the circular bomb Chrom had seen, Y/N had formed a cube remote bomb in his hand this time, the dirty blonde-haired swordsman throwing it at the crowd of Risen and Bokoblins. Once landing on the ground, he took the Sheikah Slate and pressed a button, the bomb detonating as it explodes with a large radius. Bokoblins and Risen were flying through their and crashing onto the ground, Y/N quickly running towards them and jumped into the air, quickly unsheathing his sword as he slams it onto the ground. The Bokoblins and Risen shouted in pain before they fell limp, the Risen disappearing. Looking to the rest of the Risen and Bokoblins that were heading towards him, Y/N readied his blade once more as he rushes into the fray.
Raising his shield up, he thrusts it forward, parrying a Bokoblins blunt attack with it's club, making the pig-like creature vulnerable as it's weapon flies out of it's hand. Doing four consecutive slashes, the last one making the Bokoblin fly as it was killed, Y/N quickly side-stepped, dodging a slash from one of the Risen's sword swing. He then retaliated with another flurry of slashes killing the Risen, Y/N grabbing his Sheikah Slate and raising it towards a Bokoblin that was heading towards him.
Once he had raised the Sheikah Slate, the Bokoblin seemed to have paused in motion, a yellow aura surrounding him. Y/N then takes a two-handed axe from a fallen Risen and begins to hack away at the frozen Bokoblin, a metallic clang being made every time he struck it. The Bokoblin soon glowed yellow, repeatedly, the aura soon disappearing and the pig-like creature screaming in pain as he flew across the battlefield. Two more Risen began to come towards Y/N, him readying the axe as he threw it. The blade of the axe hits one of them, killing it instantly with the other Risen only being hit by the handle. Running at full speed, Y/N quickly unsheathed his broadsword once more as he lops the head of the Risen off, the enemy disappearing into mist as it died. The bright blue-eyed swordsman looked to everyone, seeing that they have finished their battles. Fredrick begins to make his way towards Chrom.
Chrom: (sigh of relief) Finally, and good riddance! But if they're appearing this far up the Northroad...
Fredrick: Then no path is safe. We'll need to stay wary. Especially during the night. There have been reports of the skeletons of those Bokoblins suddenly appearing out of the ground, attacking any travelers.
Chrom: You're right, Fredrick. Come on, everyone! We've got a long walk ahead of us.
The Shepherds then continue their journey north, heading for Regna Ferox. In perhaps a few hours or more, Y/N suspects they might run into the Longfort, the structure that separates Ylisse and Ferox. It was the border, essentially.
As they kept walking through the field, they had come to a stop. It seemed they have come across something.
Robin: Well, what do we have here?
Lissa: Hey, is that what I think it is?
As they walked up closer to get a better look, they had stumbled upon a creature. A horse with wings. A pegasus. Y/N put a finger to his chin with a hand under his elbow, in a thinking position. He wondered, how did it end up out here?
Chrom: It's a pegasus, all right. I think it's hurt. Let's just have a look here...
When Chrom tried to get closer, the pegasus seemed to have been startled. It began to neigh and raise it's legs up defensively, flapping it's wings to raise up dirt in order to keep the blue-haired swordsman away. But they could tell that the pegasus was having a hard time of flapping one of it's wings.
Chrom: Whoa! Down, girl! Easy there!
Sumia: Captain, one moment!
The clumsy female had spoken up, walking up to Y/N, Chrom, and Robin, who were by the pegasus's side. However, Sumia fell over once more, seeming to have tripped over nothing, making Chrom look at her concerned.
Chrom: Sumia! Are you all right? ...Those boots of yours again?
Sumia: (dusts herself off) No! I mean, yes! I mean... (sigh)
Chrom: Well, come no closer! This beast is crazed!
Sumia: It's okay, Captain. I can handle this... (walks up to pegasus) Sshh... Easy now, girl. I won't hurt you.
The pegasus seemed to have calmed down once Sumia's presence had drawn closer. The winged horse even allowed her to pet it's snout, Sumia petting the horse gently.
Y/N was a bit at awe of the sight. Remembering from his time in Hyrule, he himself would have a hard time trying to tame a horse, severely remembering all the times the horses would buck him off every time he tried to tame them. But he remembered his first tamed horse. It's name was Epona, it being one of his best partners when he traveled around Hyrule escorting the princess. He wondered how his horse was doing in his old home.
Robin: How did she calm it so quickly?
Lissa: That's incredible, Sumia!
Chrom: I've never seen anything like it.
Sumia: Oh, it's...it's nothing. Really. I just have a way with animals, I guess.
Chrom: I should say so!
Sumia: You all go on ahead. I'll dress her wounds and catch up as soon as we're able.
Chrom: We can make time to wait for you.
Sumia: Thank you, Captain. But I can manage. Every moment is precious when all of Ylisse is in danger.
Chrom: Right, then. Be safe, Sumia.
Sumia: As you command, sir.
Leaving Sumia behind with the wounded pegasus, they continued onward. Onward to the warrior realm known as Regna Ferox.
